i just have a question! (terrific video by the way)
is there a way to sew them together without making it look like one color is dominating the other (on the border that is) ? i'm not sure how to explain...
I can't say thank you enough. I made a tons of square by learning from you. I guess because I 'm new to crochet , so some of my square are smaller or bigger . Thank you for the tip. I am putting all my square together slowly enough for my puppy Buddha's blanket. He is a sweet & cute pug.
Thank you for these excellent videos. The explanations are clear, and the camera shows the detail necessary to see the stitches. I have used an earlier video of yours for a granny square pattern, and now I am using this to finish off the blanket! Very much appreciated!
I really appreciate your videos. I have just finished my first afghan, thanks to your videos. I am beginning my Christmas projects and baby showers gifts, I will be watching more of your videos. :)
Is there a way you prefer to do the join, due to simple & the look of the finishec product? Should I follow the way the directions have to get the look desired? Thanks for the info,
how do you attach a crochet flower to a 5 round granny square? i couldn't find a tutorial on it, i've only found your tutorial with the hat, but i'm a bit lost... help!
I'm so glad I found this vid! I have a bunch of granny squares that were in a box of knitting supplies from a great aunt who died last year. Now I'm going to have a nice afghan. :)
I had learned to make some of these loopy flower granny square's by watching your tutorials a while back. The flower was the first thing I learned to crochet. I had only make about 10 flower squares and I haven't make them since. I don't remember how to make them now and I can't find your tutorial. I would love to make these again. Will you please make another tutorial on how to make these loopy flower sqaures PLEASE! : ) I don't know how to follow books but I can learn from your tutorials.
I Love your videos. You make it so easy to follow. I made a hat for my Grandaughter and never dreamed I would make something for someone to wear. You really cover a lot. Thanks.
thankyou for your videos. ive tried crochet before using books but your videos make it so much easier. plus i think it far more inspirational to watch a piece of work taking shape:-}
I was wondering about that. I've been trying to figure out a way to sew my granny squares together WITHOUT the seam because I thought that's what your supposed to do. So you're saying it's okay to have them? Does anyone know of a way to do it without having the seams show like a ridge. I'm make something I want to look like it's one thing instead of a bunch of little things.
Oh and also, I have been looking for people that i could exchange squares with, where would one go about finding people for crocheting correspondence?
I make a lot of granny square afghans and when i joint them instead of just using a slip stitch I like to use a single crochet. i really like the ridge pattern that it adds to the front of the blanket.
The dark backdrop shows the stitches better than the neutral color. I was getting several comments a day from people telling me they could not see the stitches well with the beige color so that is why I switched.
Hello, I was just wondering..how do you tell which is the right side on a basic granny square? I am working of a big afghan made out of 3 and half inch squares and I want to join them but, I'm not sure which is the right side. Can you help? Thank you so much for these videos. I have learned so much. Stay well.
The right side is the side that is facing you when you were working, and you can easily distinguish them it by looking both sides: On the right side you will see that the chains and stitches have clear, sharp edges, and on the other side the chains and stitches will appear 'blurry' and will be hard to distinguish them... I hope my explanation helps a little... =$ =)
Hi there! I love your extremely clear tutorials. Could you P-L-E-A-S show how to do the white square with the flowery stitch on it? I love that square. Thank you!!!!
I am wondering how you secure your yarn on the first stich? I understand how to sew it with the yarn but I am having a hard time trying to figure out how you locked the yarn into place. I have really enjoyed your videos....thanks so very much!!!
when your doing the slip stiches to put your blocks together do you break off the yarn after you get to the end or do you just keep adding blocks thats where Im stuck at now?
hi. could you please send me a link on ho to crochet the flower the green one and how to sew it on the geanny square or could you please send a link on how to crochet a granny square with a flower as in not making the flower seperate and then sewing it together but crocheing the flower together with the granny square thnx.
ditto, I would love the pattern if someone could send it to me...my daughter is moving away and I would love to do the pattern and have googled it with no luck...any help appreciated.
You show a lovely granny square in this video with a raised flower on it. Do you have a video showing how you did that? If not, could you please do a demonstration?
Thanks for the demo and all of your other videos, they're so helpful- i don't know what i would do without them! I am quite new to the crochet world however i have made your crochet cupcake and i've also crocheted a doughtnut- both of which i use as pincushions! Now i've started on making a blanket for my nan [ I'm 13 :-) ] out of granny squares so this was very useful to learn from you. Thanks again!
Thanks. I've been working on my 5th afghan, which I'm making out of long stripes. I wasn't sure how I should go about joining the strips, and now I think slip stitching is the way to go for me.
You are amazing at crocheting. My husband just recently left for iraq and i've been trying to figure out how to crochet to occupy my time while he's over there. So Right now i'm trying to learn different designs and things so your video's are helping so much!
Thank you for your comment and thank your husband for serving our country. I am a former military spouse myself, now with a son and son-in-law both serving, each with 2 deployments to Iraq. Crochet helped me through many lonely hours of waiting, deployments and overseas flights. I don't imagine that I can take my crochet hooks on a flight any longer. Write if you need help and share my channel link. Crochet is a great way to stay occupied.
I am getting ready to sew together my granny squares. I watched your two videos but because you used dark yarn, it was kind of difficult to see and understand what you were doing and how they will actually look when finished.
What I do with uneven squares is to mark the middles of both squares and pin them at that spot, then ease each half into place with either big basting stitches or pins so the outer ends are more even. What's going to happen when you work across that bulge at the end of the blue square? It'll be harder to force the next square in and will really look lopsided.
I like how the black yarn looks to lock them together lol! Tells you what I know. I am VERY new at crochet and am also following your blog. Thanks for posting all this!
Hi, I have a question.. I'm trying to make a crochet quilt blanket and I have made all my squares but I dont know how to put them all together. I would like a couple double crochet stitches between each one if I could. Can you help please? Thank you!
I don't pierce through the yarn. On occasion I may go through a strand unintentionally, which won't hurt anything if it does happen. Each stitch creates a space towards the top of the stitch. I go through the space or hole.
Hello there I just got done making 8 each of dark blue light blue and white I'm going to make a bag for a friend as a gift I do hope that I have enough of yarn Im also going to make a few things made of red white and blue I'm planing to make my mom an afgane the colors are off white and rose I'm planning to make the off white affgan and rose roses I hope shell like it I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work .
So when you whip stitch two squares together, do you leave tails on either end and weave them into the squares? I'm having a hard time visualizing how they end up staying stitched together without a knot at the end. Does that make sense?
You create a knot, then weave the tail between the stitches of the square. You can sew the tail in right away or leave a length of tail for sewing the squares together.
im also making a baby blanket, can you join them with a double or even triple crochet so the the squares have more of a space between them? or is it better to just crochet a border on each square? Because i would like my contrasting color to show more.
Thank you very much I just make one "boina" once when I was a child with my grandma supervision, I wanted to do it again and your videos are so refreshing and have given me so many ideas, Thanks a lot.
I just want to say thank you for the video demonstrations you have posted on how to crochet patterns and many other things. I myself am ,somewhat of a beginner. I started when I was 12 and I'm 23 now. I was only able to double crochet things cause that's what I first learned. After watching your videos for a day, I can now do different patterns on blankets and do beanies. Thanks a so much. This has helped me a lot. Thanks again.
you make a wonderful teacher. it's hard to find videos that are slow and explain every detail like this, it's great for beginners like me! many thanks
i love that you've used 2 squares that dont match to show how to ease them together - now i dont have to worry about getting mine exactly the same size!
You are awesome, thank you for all these great demonstrations. My niece is sure to love this afghan that I'm am crocheting thanks to you. I have learned eveything I know by watching your videos!!!! Kudos.
I guess the only reason I ask you so many of these retarded questions is because I have no one here that I live with that crochets or understands why I like doing it so much... but thank you for your kindness!!
I'm sorry I'm so full of questions... but you are so knowledgable about crochet... is it hard to ease the squares together when you are doind the slip stitch or SC?
Your questions are fine. I have eased with both. The smaller square may have a loop in some spaces twice in order to ease the larger square. When they are close in size, you really can't see the difference. Now if you are making all the same squares, you probably won't have to do much easing with a pattern that is exactly the same.
That is good that you found something else. It does not have to be the same brand that I bought. Any type of washable fabric glue will work. Just use really small dabs. I have just started using it myself and some of my dabs are larger than I would like. It is just to secure the ends so they don't come loose.
Single Crochet would work great to join them together. It is real pretty to use the same color, such as black yarn, around each square and then sew or crochet them together. If you do that, then all you have to do is Slip Stitch them to the other square that already has the "same color" edging around it. I hope that makes sense.
Do you have a demonstration on this method of connecting the granny squares? I'm making my first baby blanket from your demonstration of granny squares, and I would like to connect them with a contrast color. Thank you so much, you're a great teacher!
You can use either of the two demonstrations in this video to connect granny squares. Put these words in the video search, "Piecing Together a Granny Square Afghan" and you will find another granny square demonstration.
I have a video on sewing in threads. I recently have been using fabric glue to secure threads. I have mostly just hid the threads in the yarn. Sometimes the threads do come out and just need sewed back in again. You can visit my Blog, listed on my main page for the glue information.
i love all your videos , are you a teacher you are good when i started out watching your videos i only knew single crochet , now i know double , triple , puff, popcorn , granny sq. v- crochet ...... can you do one showing how to crochet slippers please? thank you
Thank you!! I really like the feedback in hearing that people are able to learn to crochet. I am not a teacher, just an ordinary crochet person. I thought about how I would want to be taught if I were new to crochet and decided to do crochet video's when YouTube came out.
Your videos are so well done and easy to understand. I always reference your stuff when I'm doing my own work! Thanks for all your help! :)

I guess the only reason I ask you so many of these retarded questions is because I have no one here that I live with that crochets or understands why I like doing it so much... but thank you for your kindness!!

Ask a question when ever you feel like it. I will be happy to answer.

Thank you so much! =] I do really love your flower.. I use it ALOT!! Can you demo that white and brown flower square? yum! lol
hydamyster 4 years ago
I will keep it in mind for a small project to demonstrate.

I'm sorry I'm so full of questions... but you are so knowledgable about crochet... is it hard to ease the squares together when you are doind the slip stitch or SC?
hydamyster 4 years ago
Your questions are fine. I have eased with both. The smaller square may have a loop in some spaces twice in order to ease the larger square. When they are close in size, you really can't see the difference. Now if you are making all the same squares, you probably won't have to do much easing with a pattern that is exactly the same.

i tried to find that fabri-tac but didnt succeed so i got something else about the same so hopefully that will work. thanx for that tip also! =]

That is good that you found something else. It does not have to be the same brand that I bought. Any type of washable fabric glue will work. Just use really small dabs. I have just started using it myself and some of my dabs are larger than I would like. It is just to secure the ends so they don't come loose.

So whip stitch is ok to use for seaming squares together? I think i want to use that actually. what do you think?
hydamyster 4 years ago
That will work.

Could I use single crochet to join squares together or will that mess up the join?
hydamyster 4 years ago
Single Crochet would work great to join them together. It is real pretty to use the same color, such as black yarn, around each square and then sew or crochet them together. If you do that, then all you have to do is Slip Stitch them to the other square that already has the "same color" edging around it. I hope that makes sense.

Hello-
Do you have a demonstration on this method of connecting the granny squares? I'm making my first baby blanket from your demonstration of granny squares, and I would like to connect them with a contrast color. Thank you so much, you're a great teacher!
tsddhd 3 years ago
You can use either of the two demonstrations in this video to connect granny squares. Put these words in the video search, "Piecing Together a Granny Square Afghan" and you will find another granny square demonstration.

What method of attatching the squares together do you prefer?
hydamyster 4 years ago
I prefer crocheting them together. I feel they are more secure with a neat finished edge. I can crochet them faster than sewing.

You should most definitly demo that square if it's not too much to ask... it's very gorgeous!
hydamyster 4 years ago
Did you make that brown/green and white one? The flower looks like the one that you demoed in you first flower variation. just wondering. =]
hydamyster 4 years ago
The two in the demonstration are ones that I made.

I have a video on sewing in threads. I recently have been using fabric glue to secure threads. I have mostly just hid the threads in the yarn. Sometimes the threads do come out and just need sewed back in again. You can visit my Blog, listed on my main page for the glue information.
tjw1963 4 years ago
How do you go about working in the tail of the sewing yarn so that it is very well secure and will be ok in the wash? thanx =] =]

Thank you!! I really like the feedback in hearing that people are able to learn to crochet. I am not a teacher, just an ordinary crochet person. I thought about how I would want to be taught if I were new to crochet and decided to do crochet video's when YouTube came out.

did you make the granny square first and then just attached the flowers?
regalo1979 4 years ago
Some of them I attach the flower at the end and some of them the flower is crocheted first and then I complete the square around the flower.
