I asked the activision support, without success... they are dumb... know nothing mw3 related seriously... they asked me some basic questions, and when they out of tips, just tried to blame my (exactly the same as your) processor(E8400). What is far suits the minimum requirement!(2,4gHz the minimum, and 3,0gHz the E8400) So they are disregard the whole thing/proble! Let us not wait for solution soon, according to me! I quarreled over the end with the bloke! So no hope for solution guys... sorry!
Hey! problem is really similar in my case. I used to play a few multiplayer match then my cpu usage goes 100%. I have just checked my router settings regarding the upnp but it has been disabled from the beginning. I dont know, maybe if you guys have some idea, would be appreciated. thx
@thekingzz1975 Technically I never fixed it, the issue is still there, I just stopped the game from opening up the ports it needs by disabling upnp which means I'm never picked as the host. Seeing as the issue only arises out of being picked as the host this "fixed" the high CPU usage but if everyone does this then the game won't be able to find any good hosts so it's a pretty crap "fix".
@thekingzz1975 You'd have to ask the game developers that one, I have no idea what is causing it or how easy it would be to fix it.
It might be worth noting that since I got an i7 quad core machine the issue is still there, but it doesn't slow my machine down any. It's a bid stupid to just assume everyone can go out and buy a new computer though.
Same issue here, although it worked fine since release.
I will try the solution to stop being host and see what happens, but it is nice to be host once and a while! PS i found that the connecting to online services depends on the connection a lot. If your pings are high then you will have trouble.
@jamesvrx22 Not always. When I first run the game it connects almost instantly. If I quit, then re-run the game it sits there and just times out, then when I try again it connects fast again. Whoever writes their network stuff isn't writing the disconnects properly I reckon so their servers think I'm still connected and has to wait for the old session to time out. Same with the high cpu usage, it's not disconnecting clients properly. At least that's my take on it.
@icsamppl Yeah, it is interesting to find others are having issues too. I have had a lot of issues with my internet connection over the last 2 weeks which may have contributed to my connection times. The issues have been fixed now, so will see how the connections work from now on. Have you posted a thread on the steam forums?
@jamesvrx22 I've posted in the huge thread where everyone was complaining about high cpu usage, that was where I read the whole issue about it being because you get picked as the host, and about shutting down port forwarding.
@icsamppl My multiplayer will update on steam and when i try to start it or campaign it says i should make sure its in the correct folder. my skyrim works fine tho. HELP!!!!!!!!!
@JTDX97 Sorry, you'd be better off asking about that one on the steam forums. You can right click on the game and open up its properties. Then in the "local files" tab click the button that says "verify integrity of local game cache" (or similar). If that doesn't work then I suggest you check out the steam user forums, someone there might know the answer. You didn't try moving the mw3 directory outside of steam's "steamapps/common" folder did you? It has to stay where steam put it originally.
Here the same problem.I delete the file in my steamfolder.run the game he download it the fail again and i played ~10 rounds and the problem come back :(
@riGo285 Yeah it seems that was a false fix, it just happened to work at the time. It's got something to do with you being the host. If you don't care about being the host and don't mind a bit of messing about, disable upnp on your router before you play the game.
@paulhermans82 Someone over on the steam forums discovered it has something to do with you becoming the host. I turned off upnp on my router so MW3 could no longer forward the ports and a week later I've had zero issues what so ever.
Probably not the best fix, and if everyone does it I guess there'll be no ranked games at all but for those of us like me with a useless connection anyway there's no real harm done.
I have been having the same problem. I am running a core 2 duo @ 3.33 and more often than not the cpu usage jumps to 100% and the game just lock up. It took me ages to go through the single player and when this happens in MP it makes me rage. I am only running 4 gigs of ram on w7 but I should still be ok.
@jonrojas22 I've got an E6850 3.0ghz OC to 3.5 but it also happens if I run at stock speeds and a GTX 750. I too have 4gigs of ram and w7 ultimate x64. Might be worth a mention that I bought MW3 retail, so installed from disc. I don't enough monthly quota to download the entire thing from steam so trying the steam only version isn't really an option for me.
I notice a 10 meg patch or something came out, but I still get the issue.
Exactly the same shit to me man. I was thinking it was just because i have a little Pentium dual core, but its apparently not. Hope a patch comes out soon.
@LoneSomeSong I've narrowed it down to tier0_s.dll in the steam directory. Other people I've spoken to have also said they suffer this and a reboot fixes it. I've found a reboot is only temporary.
My solution is to run the game in a window and use process explorer to end the tier0_s.dll thread.
I'm not sure if ending steam's own threads is bad so use this info at your own risk. I haven't been VAC'd (yet).
@rasmus9311 In process explorer if I double click iw5mp.exe right at the top on the "threads" tab, there's tier0_s.dll using half my CPU. Ever since the last patch it hasn't shown up every time I've run the game, only sometimes and the only time the game slows down is when it does appear.
I've posted a video response showing you where it is.
@icsamppl Okok ;) thx I managed to fix it yesterday by going to my mw3 directory then searching for that tier0_s.dll file and then deleting it. After that I run steam(i had steam turned off when i deleted the file.) and validate/verify mw3 and it begins downloading tier0_s.dll and now I don't have this anymore, at least i didn't have it last time i played.
@rasmus9311 I already tried that and, like you, found that it did fix it but eventually the problem just came back again. I've given up on this useless game. Back to CoD 4.

i want be the host
have 50mbit (and usually 10ms) connection
but my cpu (phenom II x4 955) goes up to 100% .... and game starts to lag like hell
definitely a software bug and not a hardware issue.
iw should go to hell. satan should bring great pain to those gays.

@nolekulikali unfortunately I think the only thing to do, if you enjoy being the host, is to restart the game after every map. Bit stupid really.
