If u look at what we have actually 'achieved'. Millions of other organisms have Been living on earth for millions of years and no damage was actually done. Yet we have come along and doomed it in practically the last 3000 years.
We should shoot the cast of jersey shore towards an asteroid when they collide all you'll see is cheap make up, flip flops, and hair gell flying everywhere finally when the dust of tanning spray settles all you see is snooki coming out of the debris
The main problem is that the video posits a "500km" asteroid striking the Earth; the issue is that there are only three known asteroids in excess of 500km diameter (Ceres, Vesta and 2Pallas), and all three are in safe, stable orbits within the asteroid belt with no chance of coming anywhere near Earth.
@damone3000 My point, which you missed, is that they CAN'T hit us. If you're driving down one road, and another car is driving down a road that runs parallel to you, then the other car can't hit you. Since the only 500+ km asteroids are in circular orbits, they are never going to hit us. The title of the video is "REALISTIC Simulation of an Asteroid Impact"; I don't see how it makes me a smart-ass to point out that this little detail makes the simulation singularly UNrealistic....
I know of the impact that formed the moon, but what is the evidence for 6x 500km wide asteroids? I just want to read up on them sounds like a fetching read.
500 km? more like 4600km... the shadow on that thing covered the entire united states. (just before it hit the earth, so increased shadow size due to angling wouldn't take effect).
Plus, 2012 is a load of shit. Theyreckon its the end of the world cos these dumbass egyptian explorers found an ancient calendar that finished at 2012. thats not proof. thats jus a retarded idea for movies! it was probably a lucky number, or they thought a god said thats when he will come or something. everyone relax. its not the end of the world
It was mayan calender. But yeah, whole "end of the world" was jsut because mayan calender ended 2012. What's preventing them (apart from being dead) from jsut switching to new calender
a billion supermans couldn't stop that. and i agree with osseftw. billions of years ago there was the creation of the universe when the sun was made. thats when asteroids like this were way more common. the chances of this happening are really low.
I really wished i didnt see this... i mean great vid but now im ganna be worried instead of mostly living my life... especially all the BS about 2012? people can be jerks :/
Well... let's hope that the next time a large asteroid aims at Earth, we're technologically advanced enough to pack up everyone in space ships and hightail it off the planet before the asteroid hits.
Anyone have/seen this in High Def WITH this music? Have seen with all kinds of metal, emo filth even bluegrass soundtrack. no. you tube, seperate website either will do.
On the other hand there is some evidence that an impact with an asteroid created our moon. Now that would require an asteroid as big or perhaps far larger than the one shown in the vid. Naturally this would have to have happened before life evolved.
I am no geologist, but i thought that our moon was once part of Earth, which "fell apart" when the planet was creating itself, and it was very similar to the result of this recreation.
@Freenure Our moon was once part of the Earth, but it was also part of a Mars-sized proto-planet (whose name escapes me). The Earth and this planet collided, and some of the lightweight crust coalesced into our moon. The Earth didn't really come unglued, but it came pretty damn close.
@Freenure there is speculation that another, now extinct planet the size of earth collided with a very young Earth. peices of erth and the "planet" spewed together and created our moon.
@jpbalkenende actually it was a mars size planet, and the only reason that planet didnt destroy the earth cause it wasnt a direct impact, it hit us at on the side.
this has happened six times? Total bull shit or this simulation is unrealistic... how the hell did Earth get all the water back six times over?
Water rich asteroids provide the planet with its current oceans when the solar system was forming, if something like this were to happen with the dinos were living there would be no way of getting the water back (Earth would become Mars 2.0)
Yeah I don't think there's much evidence that this has happened before. I mean that asteroid shown if one with hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles of radius. The meteors/asteroids that killed the dinosaurs and other mass extinctions were only several miles across.
Matter is neither created nor destroyed. The hydrogen and oxygen would still be present on that earth. Planet cools, then elements combine and bam, you have water again.
you are missing the point...the majority of earth's water supply was brought here by water rich asteroids when the solar system was young. I mean its one of the more accepted theories of how earth got its vast oceans
freenure you are wrong. Meteors that are something like 20KM MAX have hit earth 6 times. This is much larger. the one that did in the dinosaurs was only 2 or 3 km
@beastinblack yea 500km is a little ridiculous. an asteroid only a mile long can wipe out all living things. it would send enough dirty and debris into the atmosphere and block out the sun and heat long enough for everything to die. 500km is just some movie asteroid hahaha
'Evidence shows that this has happened at least 6 times in earths history'. True enough , waaay before life formed (Billions of years) here. When the Solar system was forming. The threat of being wiped out by an asteroid now is pretty much non-existant, most of them having already landed here or elsewhere. Imagine a bowl of popcorn. The more corn that pops, the less there is left to pop. The more asteroids hit, the less there are left hit. Fortunately all of the dangerous ones hit eons ago :)
Thank you for playing pink floyd in that video I have been searching to try and find it for weeks

If an asteroid 500k in diameter, which does not exist, hit the earth, it would rip earth into several peices. There would be no planet left at all.
