  • beautiful sadness ....the two walk hand in hand in this world

  • I can sing this song like him in Japanese. My husband heard me singing it in Japanese. He said "Josette i know you can talk french, but i didn't know you know Japanese. He was freaked out. But, only this song.I listen to the words. When you look up, to the sky.....

  • I think Japanese girls are probably the most beautiful in the world

  • Who is the girl???????????

  • This song got me into Japanese music , arigotou gozaimasu Kyu Sakamoto for bringing us magnificent music .

  • Aunque no entiendo la letra, esta cancion transmite mucho sentimiento sin duda la musica es universal. gracias por subirla.

  • I haven't got a clue what the words are, but this is the most beautiful, romantic song that I have ever heard. The sweet young faces are perfect for this video. Per "killerbee" on John Denver's "Sweet Surrender" video: Sometimes God calls his Angels too soon...

  • i hope you know this is a song bout happiness and to "chin up" and sukiyaki is a food

  • the photo at 2:26 makes me realize where the asian dragon comes from..

  • Always wondered what the lyrics translated to in English. But this is a beautiful tune, so serene.

  • I still have wonderful memories of walking down to Khoury League baseball and listening to this on a transister radio in the spring of 1963 without a care in the world oh the glory days of youth.

  • @MrBaseballstl i remember my transister radio to.I even had a cheap one with these clips you had to attach to metal i think.

  • Would someone tell GREAT singers not to fly.

  • I had no clue..... Yoooo Snoop Dog.... lol

  • lovely song and beautiful girl but the rest of the pictures?

One from Stockholm, Sweden and one that looks like a fjord in Norway.

Just nice pictures or something? Cause some people seem to believe it's Japan in those pictures. (some could be of course.)

  • the Japanese girl is a real knock out. Great job. Japanese countryside is almost as beautiful too.

  • He became the first and only pop singer to be popular in the USA. Great song

  • tan bella q me recuerda mi niñez y me llega al fondo de mi corazon

  • idk wtf they're sayin in this song, but it's really catchy! o__O

Who is the young lady in the video. I thought that it might be Mr. Sakamoto's daughter.

    Touching video

  • In remembrances 26 years ago the crash of JAL 123 on August 12. 1985 at 18:56 local Tokyo time.

The Boeing 747 SR crashed into the side of Mount Otsuka at a height of 4780ft

70 miles North West of Tokyo

  • wii music!

  • Great song. Lo escuche en Mad Men y me gustó.

  • Thanks for the download link

  • Great song at all time .

  • I have never visited Japan, but, have known many from there. Talk about culture. This has always been one of my favorite songs, but, I can't remember where I first heard it, and I believe I heard it in English, my native language, so I thought I would hear it in Japanese. Just as beautiful as the English version, and, perhaps moreso with the layer of culture.

  • @MrDarkle I used to live in japan :).. I lived in Hofu on kyushu. Would not mind going back but so many things happening in the world right now.

  • I have a new favorite song :)

  • I remember this from when i was a kid and now I listen to AkB48, Morning Musume, SCANDAL, etc. Who'd a ever guessed.

  • Proof positive one doesn't need to understand a particular language to know a song is beautiful.

  • So beautiful. It was the first Japanese song I'd ever heard. The word "Japanese" meant Pearl Harbor.

  • The woman in the video, is she Kyu's wife?

  • the woman in the video, is she Kyu's wife?

  • This song is almost 50 years old and I remember listening to it when I was a little kid--boy does that make someone feel OLD!!!!

  • i love this soooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnng really

  • This song is bril, Lynn, XLX

  • I have NO CLUE what he's singing here....But It sure sounds BEATIFUL.....The pictures are!! 5*****

  • We have to remember that the orchestral arrangement in Kyu Sakamoto's version is also very great, in addition the his vocal performance.

Also, this is not a happy song. (Lyrics).

  • I have no idea what he was saying, although it was later recorded in English, but it was the catchiest tune, and I remember hearing it on the radio and everybody would sing it phonetically. Thanks for the music!

  • One of my favorite songs from Sakamoto san, ever. Thanks for posting it!

  • This song was a #1 hit in the USA 18 years after the end of the war in Japan,I felt very proud that this could happen in our country.

  • Well, any people can be considered "most beautiful in the world" if you only look at pictures of the pretty people! (that's called Selection Bias)

No matter what country you are in, the really beautiful people are a small percentage, not the norm.

  • This beautiful song reminds me of my first and true love. I love her still.

  • @USApure u really make it sound like your an idiot. Everyone has a beautiful soul and please look at beauty beyond looks. What people mean when they say they are beautiful, they are talking about much more, such as attitude, grace, passion, compassioin, and just much more. geezzzz louise.

  • poor japan with the nuke melt after a 7.9 quake, so very sad, such a beautiful people.

  • @zzzippo55 Ahem! Lets not forget the atrocities they carried out during WW2. It is indeed a great shame what happened recently but to say that they are a beautiful people is stretching credibility a little. Great song mind you.

  • @AIRDRIE2007 They came to their senses after WWII....something that can't really be said of the Germans.

  • The best ever heard Japanese pop song from the 60s! Another great song from Kyusan is "Sayonara Tokyo". Domo arigato Mr. Sakamoto!

  • I have loved this song since it first came out in 1963, and it was a favorite when I went to Japan for the first time in 1965. I could listen to it a thousand times; it brings back many wonderful memories.

  • @Mustang633 Ambassador John Roos, on Twitter, mentions a post on how Japanese are turning to old songs like Kyu Sakamo's for comfort. The article is from the New York Times July 27, 2011. Article is entitled "Japan's comfort music." by Harvey Dickson.

  • @Mustang633

Amen brother Mustang 633! I was sent to Iwakuni, Japan in 1965 just before deploying to Vietnam. This song will always be with me and will always remind me of my younger, more innocent years.

  • @NevadaTraveler63

You have a way with words. Just 3 short sentences that suggest so much. Brought tears to my eyes.

  • Wow two hours on repeat. I like this one

  • the girl is 夏帆 Kaho

    japanese actress

  • I read that it's about a man who as he's walking looks up and whistle so his tears will not fall.My guess is for a love he is thinking about. WHATEVER it's a beautiful song. I'd fall in love with him if I was the lucky girl

  • thats beautiful

  • Can't understand a word, but what a beautiful flashback to my youth.

  • ang ganda naman ng babaieng to........ babay face.

  • HGWT5763. 03/03/15/2011 A.D. GOD BLESS BOTH AMERICA AND JAPAN.

  • Bang Mat masa saya dalam belasan tahun. Menjadi siulan anak2 muda ketika itu. Terima kasih

  • One does not need to know a single word from this classic to love it's beautiful singing and sadness in his voice,a very haunting feeling it leaves. The Japanese authority's waited until daylight about 10 hours after his commercial flight had hit trees,a baby was found in a tree alive,God knows how many could have been saved,if they had started response teams right away. RIP KYU-san

  • @ladyhawke50 they called Sukiyaki because is one of the few japanese words that western people know and is easy to remember

  • M.C.S. <3

  • Finally I found it!! Great

  • @Gerhard3838 I've been looking for this song for three decades, I found it tonight Banzai!! absolutely magic. It looks like the singer has passed away and I have a lump in my throat to find out that. This song makes me so happy, I've been whistling and humming it for so long. I don't have a clue what the lyrics are; can anyone help?

  • @dogsparents

Unfortunately, Mr. Sakamoto perished along with over five-hundred others aboard Japan Airlines Flight 123 in 1985, a Boeing 747 which crashed into a mountain when the flight crew lost hydraulics, which lines were severed in a maintanence accident and was undetected prior to the flight as I recall. Miraculously, four passengers did survive.

I liked this the first time I heard it, never mind that I don't know any of the words-it is beautifully composed, arranged, played, and sung.

  • is this the original from 1962 i was 11 years old back then first heard it played on radio luxemburg the song did very well in the uk top twenty
