I still have wonderful memories of walking down to Khoury League baseball and listening to this on a transister radio in the spring of 1963 without a care in the world oh the glory days of youth.
I have never visited Japan, but, have known many from there. Talk about culture. This has always been one of my favorite songs, but, I can't remember where I first heard it, and I believe I heard it in English, my native language, so I thought I would hear it in Japanese. Just as beautiful as the English version, and, perhaps moreso with the layer of culture.

@zzzippo55 Ahem! Lets not forget the atrocities they carried out during WW2. It is indeed a great shame what happened recently but to say that they are a beautiful people is stretching credibility a little. Great song mind you.
I have loved this song since it first came out in 1963, and it was a favorite when I went to Japan for the first time in 1965. I could listen to it a thousand times; it brings back many wonderful memories.

Grew up in the sixties in the poor side of town in peoria illinois ,but every time hear this beautiful song made me feel like somebody.maybe because song was so peaceful and made me feel good inside and out .
This is a great song! I keep listening to it once I get to this site! lol! Anyway, is there or are there CDs where all of Kyu Sakamoto songs are collected? I love this song but I want to listen to any other songs he may have sung. He's got a great voice. Thank you for loading. Hapi new year.
the japanese girls have that something...when they let their natural beatuty be shown...unfortunately the modern women in japan is something most ugliest that I have seen...they look terible...that school girl look...they try to look like western whores instead of beautiful ladies from amazing country...respect your heritage ;)
@Gerhard3838 I've been looking for this song for three decades, I found it tonight Banzai!! absolutely magic. It looks like the singer has passed away and I have a lump in my throat to find out that. This song makes me so happy, I've been whistling and humming it for so long. I don't have a clue what the lyrics are; can anyone help?
Unfortunately, Mr. Sakamoto perished along with over five-hundred others aboard Japan Airlines Flight 123 in 1985, a Boeing 747 which crashed into a mountain when the flight crew lost hydraulics, which lines were severed in a maintanence accident and was undetected prior to the flight as I recall. Miraculously, four passengers did survive.
I liked this the first time I heard it, never mind that I don't know any of the words-it is beautifully composed, arranged, played, and sung.
@esc4all Waited all summer for this song to play on the radoi. Could never hear it enough. Something magical about the tune and the Japanese words. I was vacationing at Myrtle Beach the last week of September 2010 and this played on the local radio station. Sent me back to the early 60's. Great memories...mmmm!
@esc4all what a song - Mall, great place to tune into this one, it will make ya spend, thank goodness for the malls, those guy know what there doing. enjoy!!
This song sounds so Beautiful I just wish I could understand It.

Thanks Kimi you are very kind. since I was a little kid and my uncle gave me this song I was looking for him and did not find ... I always thought is name is "Butterfly" and I had no doubt that's how an angel came when
he sang. the combination of your photos gives the song the Angels kind he deserves

@rhacaspi Roy: Kimi probably "borrowed" the photo from some other website and it already included the name "Roy".

the japanese girls have that something...when they let their natural beatuty be shown...unfortunately the modern women in japan is something most ugliest that I have seen...they look terible...that school girl look...they try to look like western whores instead of beautiful ladies from amazing country...respect your heritage ;)

@Gerhard3838 I've been looking for this song for three decades, I found it tonight Banzai!! absolutely magic. It looks like the singer has passed away and I have a lump in my throat to find out that. This song makes me so happy, I've been whistling and humming it for so long. I don't have a clue what the lyrics are; can anyone help?
dogsparents 1 year ago
@dogsparents
