The ride isn't quite "coming back;" it's going to be basically an entirely different experience with over 50 different storylines, in 3D, taking place in a different time period (between the 2 sets of movies). The Star Tours here is gone forever, but there will be a very different replacement with the same theme.

@sumbuddyx Supposedly the comets are a throwback to the Adventure thru Inner Space attraction that occupied that space before Star Tours. Also, in the maintenance bay, look for the Mighty Microscope from the same attraction jutting out from behind a control room.

I'm saddened that the current Star Tours attraction will close on July 27, leaving behind the memories of myself there for a number of times (my last time was in '05). But as good news, it will return with Coruscant by next year so that the Star Wars theme would still remain. For those who haven't been on the ride yet or been there for a long time, watching this video is like experiencing the real thing. May the force be with us all.

Yup. July 26th is the last day to ride Star Tours at Disneyland. It will then be closed starting the next day.

But the good news is that it will be updated and re-open in 2011.

I hated losing the Country Bear Jamborie. October was the original closure time, but I guess they decided that they would need more time to re-imagine the ride.

So at Disneyland the last day that Star Tours will be opened will be July 26th.

So be sure to get those last rides in! :-)

They are going to update the 'film' that goes along with the motion simulation to coincide with the first Star Wars film (which would be the Phantom Menace, or something like that. Can't remember, I'm not a fan of the 'new' ones) It'll be a virtual pod race.

Interesting fact:

Star Tours was originally planned to be based on the 1979 film The Black Hole, which guests would choose their own car route. However, due to the negative reception of the film and ginourmus costs for the ride, plans were shelved. Disney later made plans with George Lucas for a somewhat less expensive attraction based on much more popular material.

Who knows what how Star Tours would have looked like if the Black Hole plans weren`t shelved.

I've about to captured this classic version of this ride, on my Westgate DVDs camera in Monday 2009. During my mother's birthday, and Ithen Disney's Califronia Adventure at Wednesday. Then return back home at San Diego, California on Thursday. And it was my only hope to catch the 1987 Star Wars ride on my camera, before closed on 2010 for the making of the Star Tours II in 2011!
