Thanks a ton for the superb lesson. Can you please clarify the G Chord in Verse Section. Is there a C note on the second string. Can't quite get it. I have finished the Intro part quite well. This is a great song and you have played it beautifully
hi, good teaching for starters - is your guitar a hondo?? i only ask because i have EXACTLY the same pattern on mine except it's black, i just hnoticeed and was like WOW !!
Hi, My guitar is a Gibson hummingbird bought about thirty five years ago. One of my other favourite guitars is an Eko Ranger bought about the same time.
@HAWTHORN63 wow i have my dads old eko, and i have myself a gibson country and western, but i want a hummingbird! i want to track down joplins one she used on bobby magee lol, in my dreams.... but you never know x
Got the same problem!!!sounds different when i pick the fourth and second string and the hammer on the second...doesnt it mean that you pick the fourth and THEN the second??
HAWTHORN63 is right I have two books of Ralph's with Streets of London in them and both have the chord as Dm, and fretting the first string at the first fret
Surely not its pretty obvious its 'and' otherwise the line wouldn't make sense: '...Hand held loosely at his side yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news...' doesn't take a genius to work that one out. xXx
Yes, but actually you see that mistake in lots of prints of this song. Take a look around :-)
Actually Ralph has commented on this in his recent tabbook called "Songs For Six Strings" that this was to his knowledge the first time (!) that the printers had got this "and" right.
Enjoyed this as well, very pretty, good job. The instructions in the corner are nice too. Might have to learn this. Different from the renaissance stuff I'm trying now, but similar enough to peak my interest.
thank you so much :D

Great tutorial. I`m still working.
If you don`t mind requests and have some or even more spare time a lesson on Vincent would be very nice.
Thanks Andi

No, he is not - try it ;-)
The recent official tab book has this chord -
and he has explained that many get it wrong.
The earlier ones were not issued under his control and often have errors like many other chord and tab books.
For instance
"HAND held loosely at his side" in the 1'st
which should of course be
"AND held loosely at his side"
He has himself confirmed in his recent tabbook that to his knowledge it's the first
time this line has ended up correct in print.

Ah, hadn't thought about that - but still think the
latter sounds better ( and it is what "he" says in "his" recent tab book ).
Still it's the combination with the high E that gives it the special feeling, which you don't get in the Dm
chord.
It's also the main chord in "From Clare to Here" btw. - he seems to like this one a lot ;-)
ElvenDane 4 years ago
Thanks for that minus point - that's what you get for knowing what you talk about *LOL*
Well, maybe you could just try it out instead - experiment a little and see that I am 100 % right ?
ElvenDane 4 years ago
Nice - good idea to break it down like that.
Think you have Dm chord that is "wrong" - many will play a D7 there, but the "real" chord is Fmaj6
( I think - one of my fav. chords btw. )
1(T)0 3 2 3(P)0 -> 1(T)0 3 2 1(I)0
ElvenDane 4 years ago
We are both right it is Dm or Fmaj6 same notes DFA in Dm OR FAD in Fmaj6
HAWTHORN63 4 years ago
Yes, but not quite the same sound and base feeling. Try it and see what I mean.
He does use this special chord a lot !
For instance in "First and Last Man"
( and in an upcoming song called Reverend Thunder ;-) )
