  • Rutles, I love you!

  • Like this version more than the Rutles' -- not to mention that Neil looks absolutely stunning with that bowler, cane and suit. Thanks for uploading!

  • Nice.

  • This is wonderful. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this.

  • Thanks for posting this... I think I prefer the Rutles Archaeology version

  • well actually he's the 7th python... there are 6 actual pythons

palin, cleese, idle, gilliam, jones, chapman

  • He performed this song on Saturday Night Live in 1977 when Eric Idle was hosting, and also played "Cheese and Onions" as Ron Nasty on that episode.

  • yes, it was posted here some time ago and removed by youtube. it's the best version (howard shore and the SNL band)

  • Hard to tell, but that does look like Barry Wom on drums...

  • Looks like 1981 from the BBC site.

  • When was this recorded? Was it before the Rutles 1996 version was released on their archeology album?

  • Neil wrote Shangri-La before Archaeology. He 'Rutleised' several of his solo songs for the album. This performance is from the 80s.

  • Niel Innes is the 6th python
