This video is nonsense..btw - price of oil in 1984 was approx $29 a barrel and not $11 in this video. Also, beginning of the 80's, the North Sea and Russia oilwells were pumping oil full tilt causing a glut of oil on the world markets, thus in 1986, the price was reduced to $10.

It's not that that there are middle men in between gasoline companies and oil extractors, but that the middle men are a monopoly/trust. If they were, then there would be anti-trust laws against what they're doing. Because of this, I doubt this is true, I would think the law would enforce some competition.

You know the figures given for $5 of $3 oil out of the ground is a bit inconclusive. Rigs are financed through future production on the field. They don't just appear and run full capacity all at a profit. Some fields simply don't yield enough to economically justify building a rig.
