I think shoving is an option there Marty, but certainly the texture of the opponents should come into play in a move like that. Especially at a final table when 1st, 4th and 9th are a big difference in payout.
I would have raised 2.5 or LIMPED... yes its possible.
As you said, you had no information about the BB, and they are the one that bumped you.
I probably would have raised the button and taken a flop.
If re-raised, I may have folded AJ due to lack of information on who I was up against.
no i agree it was the right play, in the big mtts u are doin it alot wen the blinds are high. he just got called by a good hand. u win some u lose some.
phill hellmuth said he always likes to have chips lying around thats the same with me, when im called i usually no when im beat and when im ahead, if i was you and i did that id no im beat a second before the cards were turned over and the blinds are either sitting ducks or with qq they become big traps and when your not getting cards for an hour or longer it seems like youll get 4 hands in a row and if the 3or4 ones best your going to take someone out they just never believe it......
i just subed to you ive been watching you on youtube for months now and no i dont think you should have pushed but thats just me i think they were probably expecting you to have a good hand is why one of them folded and the other called and they were probably only going to call you if they were sure they had you beat thats why but maybe your right and you probably could have folded alot of hands to make it to a better one also but im just a diffrent player though............
u have to put urself in the situation of blinds, everybody folded to the button, and button shoves, me, holding QQ on bb, it looks like a STEAL, so it is VERY easy call with qq, even JJ or TT. May b it was a bit wrong to shove, because u letting them (to blinds) know that u stealing..... "Hey guys, please fold, I am just stealing ! " But it's easy 4 all of us to judge after the hand is over...
With antes already in the middle, I think a shove is correct. You have a pretty awkward stack for raise/folding your hand, especially one as strong as AJ.
I would opt to make a 2.75x raise here and fold to a reraise. Cause your stack is too big to just shove(14 big blinds). I think you can safely fold if you get reraised. I don't think you ever get bluffed in this spot at a final table of a large MTT. Most of the players at this table were prolly just trying to move up in the money and wouldn't make a play so early on at a final table. If I were at 10 big blinds or less I would for sure shove. Not that I think your play is bad, its marginal.

Tough break Marty. What I think I would've done differently is instead of shoving, I would've raised to 2.5BB. The reason being is that firstly there is a significantly good chance that your opponents will fold due to positioning and unwillingness to risk a significant part of their stack at this stage. Secondly, if you get re-raised, it's pretty easy to assume your behind and fold, knowing full well that you will still have a healthy stack going and will be still in the tournament as a result
Thats an obvious shove there no doubt against 2 random hands.. just sucks that he had queens.. does anyone else notice tho that when you're deep in tournaments you get a lot of cooler hands like AK vs AQ AA vs KK/QQ..
Folding AJ on the button looks a little too tight. It's not like your're playing a qualifier where 8 players qualify. It just so happened that a smaller bet would have left you nearly pot-committed, so you were essentially forced to go all the way if you decided to play the hand.
I would have done the same your stack was at the point were you needed those blinds and antes this play would have worked 9 out of 10 times just bad luck
@Putheticyou pretty much but not enitrly, shove like 80% of the time unless u have a very aggro blind who u expect will fold or shove into, in which case u could make a tin re-raise to give him a false sense of fold equity and when he shoves u in or raises u snap get ur chips in here
@curt2418 You have AJ off suit.. You dont have AA.. you dont want them to call here. Your objective is to shove and pick up the blinds .. If someone calls , you arent in bad shape since most of the time you have a 30% chance of ur dominated or you could be flipping etc..
There s no reason to raise and WANT action.. it s stupid.
Once again , anything other than a shove is completly retarded.
@Putheticyou im not saying i dont shove here, i shove 100% of the time UNLESS, i know the SB or BB are agro enough to shove if i make a raise preflop, which u WANT with this hand u have AJ o nthe button they should be reshoving a wide range and they would be correct, a range in which u have crushed, i shove majority as well but with that said a raise can be +ev unless expect them to donk flat then u want to always shove
@Putheticyou lol im sorry sir but what u just said did not make sesne lol, with 15ish BB on the button if u can small bet and know the blinds are shoving in with garbage to which u can assume a high % of the time, and u most likely will be 50/50 at worst.. this is a clear spot to WANT to get it in, lol i will take Ajo against his range any day, and if i shove im happy if he calls and im happy if he folds... ur thought process here if u say it is a shove and only a shove everytime is flawed,
Really? You want to race for your life tournament with AJo? LOL.
He s shoving to increase his stack by 18% so when the next level is , he still has some fold equity. He s slowly grinding his stack instead, this is NO time to try and race for your tournament life , like he said , 9th and 1st has a huge difference. You re so clueless.
@Putheticyou check my stats urself if u want the m Curt2418 on PS and curt1824 on FT, look man like i said at first im shoving this hand 80% of time, tiny raise and getting it in here 20%, never folding, i ONLY tiny raise here when i have some aggro guys in the blind who i'm CONFIDENT will reshove preflop, possibly with a hand, but most likely hoping i fold, and YES im willing to risk my tourny life with AJo on the button vs blinds anyday of the week when im sitting on 15bbs.
@Putheticyou yea my 70% and 83% ROI is so funny lol dont worry i wont mention urs haha man its unfortunate ur so straight forward an not capable of thinking off that straight line lol, and this u dont wanna race for ur tourny life garbage needs to be fixed lol u will have their re-shove range here crushed with AJ and u wont take a 50/50 orr 60/40 in ur fav.. u wont go far... get off the Phil Helmuth nit box train, the guy is a donk, u have your opinion, and i have mine gl to u at the tables sir
i dunno, i dont think my opinion should be valued really but, something just seems wrong about trying to pick up 10% more chips by wagering everything, yes he ran into a big hand, but, you gotta figure you will if you keep doing it... i know it will give you a better win % in the long run though so i guess thats all that matters, maybe contemplate a small raise when you play against quality players not internet donks,
@Putheticyou haha how does it make a difference if you know them or not? You still had to ask them lol. nice way to wreck yourself, what a retarded comment.

I agree with the move as well, 99% of the time it'll work out, as the blinds will have trash cards a lot of the time.
mikeha 2 years ago
I agree with the move. You want to target the middle stacks in this situation, because they are the least likely to play back at you.
If you make a standard raise, and he plays back, I dont think you can fold anyways. So it makes sense to me to put them to the decision.
Unfortunately, the BB woke up with a hand.
