I remember "Squeal of Fortune" on Sesame Street. The two muppets of Pat Playjack and Velma Blank really do look like Pat Sajak and Vannah White from Wheel of Furtune.
For some strange reason, this sketch used to scare me when I was little. I don't know what I was thinking back then. Although the pig's squeals get kind of annoying after a while. I feel bad for the pig at the end.
This may have been the only Squeal sketch; there was another Wheel spoof that happened during the "street scenes" of another episode, in which Maria was the contestant; that spoof, "Sight Word", was hosted by another Sajak spoof, Matt Playback, with Velma Blank at the puzzle board.
BTW, it sounds as if Playjacks said "This is 'Wheel' here" to the eel.
Hmm... I must have remembered it wrong, then. I thought I remembered that the pig was on his back, and the wheel was mounted on the wall, and the pig wasn't enjoying it one bit. Maybe I dreamed it.
That's funny how she says she's happy to be on a "normal" show, and then she finds out she has to guess pig squeals. I think it's a carryover from when she was all depressed about having to play "The Triangle Is Right" where the answer is always a triangle.
Why isn't this hosted by everyone's FAVORITE game-show host, Guy Smiley? Dubious...especially since Henson clearly wasn't so busy he couldn't play both.
gameshowluvr86, I absolutely enjoyed watching "Squeal of Fortune" on that Sesame Street episode when I was young. I remember laughing when The Count spun the wheel as the pig squealed. This certainly was a great moment in my childhood...
This was one of my favorite SS sketches! And it was certainly my favorite spoof. It must've been because I enjoyed "Wheel" at the time. I still enjoy Wheel every now and then.
The two areas that I watched Sesame Street on from Flint and Detroit PBS stations for the 1988-89 season that I saw squeal of fortune and I heard that Big Bird mentioned about the little piggy was on Wheel of Fortune and the real Wheel Of Fortune aired on NBC daytime at the time and in syndication for Detroit and Flint stations in which the PBS markets I watched on was aired on WDIV 4 in Detroit since day one and in Flint it aired Wheel on WJRT 12 back then.
Jeez, from 1977 to 1986 I has the fortune of watching SS on three channels in Detroit; WTVS 56, and Channels 9 & 32 in Windsor, ON (where we got to watch the Canadian SS).
Fran Brill is obviously Prarie and I know Jerry Nelson is The Count, so I'm willing to bet that Pat Playjacks is being performed by Jim Henson in this sketch.
I never enjoyed Squeal of Fortune as much after they stopped letting contestants shop for their prizes. And personally, I preferred the original host, Chuck Woolier.
Big Bird mispronounces the word fortune.

I probably would have picked the portrait of Pat. That's the only one I'd really be able to do anyting with.

LOL...what a great parody of Old School WoF...back when the contestants had to SPEND the money and buy all the tacky prizes.

Which makes sense because everyone thought Vanna White was a dumb blonde. Those assholes...

I just realize about the other voices here.
Richard Hunt- Pig
Eel- Kevin Clash
You can also hear Jerry Nelson in the audience.

I also read somewhere that David Rudman performed Velma Blank, even though Velma was silent.
