  • Ha, Ali was untouchable in '67. But Louis might beat a 70's Ali. Not a '67 one.

  • @carmodifire it wouldn't have been impossible. Ali's guard has never been that good and he never brought his left hand back up high enough after he jabbed. Ali was too open sometimes and Joe would have made him pay for that. If these two fought 20 times I wouldn't be surprised if they won 10 each or 11-9

  • @CoffeeBeatsTea True, it is possible that Louis could beat prime Ali in a series of fights. Louis said that he wouldn't have been able to box Ali, he would have to get him on the ropes (Frazier/Norton). And, he could give Ali trouble of style like Doug Jones and Norton. But, Norton and Frazier were being dominated by Ali when he danced, and never caught him on the ropes when he did that. Louis had trouble with movers, and Ali had stamina enough in the 60's. But Norton is no Louis

  • wow it is interesting to how prefight was kinda cordial till Ali came and shook things up

  • This guy was great, if Sugar Ray Robinson...... SUGAR RAY ROBINSON looked up to you, then I guess u can feel really good about yourself. He might even rival Ali's greatness.

  • Joe Louis was rated as the greatest of all time heavyweights by the IBRO, a group of historians and boxing experts who all know infinitely more about Louis and boxing than the Ali fanatics who think a prime Ali could destroy Louis. Eddie Futch also says Louis would beat Ali. Louis was the perfect fighter.

  • Joe Louis is the greatest of all time. Nobody compares to him.

  • LOUIS WOULD GET KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT BY MIKE TYSON (FACT)

  • @scatystel Tyson was great at using Floyd Patterson's style but fought a lot of shitcans and looked good beating them, and lost to fighters you just don't lose to when you're considred "champ" . Bottom line..the heavyweights of the past were lighter then Tyson's era, so comparing them is a retarded argument.

  • joe louis was the best and noone can say other wise

  • muhammad ali the greatest fighter and he would rape a slow slow joe lous or larry if the had meet a prime ali

  • Dempsey- Louis- Ali. Thats the question. Who's the best.

  • In actual fact not only was louis a much more powerful puncher than clay he was (shock horror )faster, no question he was the greatest heavyweight of them all.

  • @travisemtsis LMAO, Oh how wrong you are. I agree that Joe Louis definetly was a much more powerful puncher, infact the Greatest Puncher of all time. There is no way in hell that he is faster than Muhammad Ali. Ali was definetly faster on his feet(about 10 times faster, lol) moving at the speed of a welter weight. His handspeed was also clearly faster. There were times he through punches that hit the target quicker than .05 of a sec. Ali was so quick that he turned wrong to right.

  • Loius was a great fighter, no if's, no but's. But the greatest I think not. He was treated like crap by the Americans after he retired, but makes a top 5 list in any era.

  • Who would a person rather have coming to their aid while being jumped by 2 guys in an alley, Ali or Louis.

  • Louis.

Louis is still the best defender of the heavy weight title.

    Then Larry Holmes

    Ali was nothing

  • in fact, ali 'the big mouth' sucked...

  • 15 years is a great record to hold a title -no one has broken it yet

  • Ali was not the greatest.

I believe, I know, That Joe Louis was the greatest.

Ali was filled with conceit and had no respect for anyone,

    Whereas Joe constantly humbled himself.

not to say he was a saint, he had alot of problems, but then who doesn't?

Many people have forgotten him, and all that he did.

But to me he will always be the true American Hero.

  • i agree on that. hes just forgetten with time, and i wish someone like him would come back to the heavyweight devision.

  • joe louis sure as hell was and still is the best heavywieght and possibly pound for pound, ali only talked shit to get people to buy tickets for his fights, they all wanted to see him lose, wich didnt happen to often but he talked crap to make more money

  • @ricflarefnsux No wonder she start dating white men after that! Joe Louis is fucking stupid for that!

  • Why did they treat him so badly in a racist way after he done so much for the USA? The USA was ungreatfull thats why they Hated Muhammad ALI who is still the greatest.

  • Joe Louis gave alot to America. We needed him.

He took one for the team.

  • according to speed,IF U TAKE A HARD PUNCH the load of energy need some splitseconds to be transfered .. this is the effect of "hittin thru the enemy". Not just hitting and taking the arm backwards, like most boxers do... the ability to hit thru the enemy is very important, expecially in the ring where u have restrictions like gloves. JOE's ability to punch thru the opponent , to punch from closest quartest and deliver extremly high damage, is much more worth than alis speed .. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT

  • ppl who say ali would beat louis cause of his speed and better leg movement know NOTHING about fighting , and especially about boxin'. ali was running and hiding alot yes, ali was fast yes... Joe's movement was strategic perfection , just moving in and out to hit and conter with amazing timing skill.. this intense footwork is much greater quality than any trolly movement like alis , holmes' etc...

  • wow 4:56!

  • Who's the fat guy at 2:47?

  • Two Ton Tony!

  • I felt that one at :51! LOL!

  • I think I did too!

  • You talk about Ali cutting people...shit......Louis dished out hundreds of stitches worth of cuts in his career....more than any fighter...the or now.

Some people understand fighters and boxing..others don't...people who think ALi could have won in a match against Louis don't know anything about boxing. Clueless

  • What do you mean people who think Ali could beat Louis are Clueless? In Ali you Have a bigger man with a great chin, unbelievable heart, fantastic footwork, and who is the consummate Boxer. Many people relize that in the history of boxing the boxer usually beats the puncher (not the Joe was your average puncher). But the prospect that Ali would beat Louis is not unfathomable it's actually possible.

  • The big problem with yours,or any anyones' argument that Ali was better than Louis is that you ignore one simple fact...ALi was always open for a hit as well and got nailed many times in his career. Joe had the punch of Foreman,,,,BUT AT TWICE THE SPEED. ALi would have been horsemeat in 5 rounds.

  • However I wont argue with any1 having Louis as the number 1 heavy of all time, because I think you should judge a fighter by what era (time) he fought in.

  • Joe is great but he is not as great as Ali. Ali fought better competition and had the better skill set. Better chin boxing abilitiy hand speed foot work. Joe was always susceptible to being hit and Ali would have slashed him up. Joe had a ton of power but no more than foreman frazier or shavers none of which could put Ali out.

  • its like you woke up at the wrong side of your brain, NOBODY can hit as hard as louis in boxing, louis said this, HE CAN RUN BUT HE CANT HIDE, ali will never stand 5 rounds with louis

  • Slamin: I agree with you as you know your boxing. Too bad i cannot get the Nova-Louis fight on youtube. Nova was strong and fast and could easily defeated Ali.

  • jayboyo: Your wrong, you must not have seen Louis fight Conn. Conn was faster than Ali and Louis caught him. Louis was a finisher where Ali played rope a dope. Also, Louis fought tougher man than Ali. Most people have never seen the Nova fight. Nova was fast and strong and Louis destroyed him.

  • True, Ali's rope-a-dope only worked on Foreman becasue Foremans punches werent accurate. Joe Louis was the most accurate puncher in boxing history, if Ali tried that tactic aginst joe, Joe Louis would take his head of

  • Well Ali was hardly in hes prime when he met Foreman.

Louis was a great fighter, he was incredible accurate and punched like a mule.

However to say that he punched harder then Liston, Foreman, Shavers, lewis or Tyson is not true. Joe fought in an era of smaller heavys.

Also about Louis catching up with Conn, well Conn was a lightheavy. Against Ali he would face a heavyweight with the same speed and remember Conn staggerd him.

  • Yeh ur right, but I dnt think I ever said Joe punched harder than foreman, Liston, or Tyson - in my opinion he punched just as hard but probably not any harder. Its hard to judge because ive never been hit by any of them!!!!

  • No you didnt it was slamin45 that said no1 in boxing hits harder the Joe louis.

He weighed under 200 pounds in hes prime so i dont think that is true.

  • I don't know if Conn was faster than Ali but i think that is irrelavent because what Conn did to him in the first fight i think Ali would have done the same without ever getting put out. I think Ali would have finished him. The second fight between Conn and Louis can't be used in this debate because they were different fighters then. And you are right i never seen the nova fights or other ones you mentioned completely but Joe had definite holes in his game that Ali could have exploited.

  • jayboyo: I appreciate what you are saying, but when Louis was in his prime, no way with Ali. Lou Nova could have k.o. Ali easily. The trouble with youtube is that they do not show the great fights of Louis. These fighters were fighting to feed their families.

  • Jayboyo: My dad saw the Louis/musto fight and he told me that Louis almost took Musto's head off and Tony was a strong fighter in the ranks of Foreman. Also Louis destroyed John Henry Lewis in 1st. round. Remember Louis was a finisher, when he saw he had a guy in trouble the rest is history.

  • burt, thank you. Im tired of people saying ali was the best because theyve heard it from television and movies so many times. As for joe louis. Also have to add Training has advanced over the years. Back in the fifties my dad remembers coaches saying water was for the weak in football and boxing. You can imagine the obsolete training regimines that were available.

  • jayboyo: It seems to me that the only fights you have seen Louis fight is on youtube. Louis fought guys that would have destroyed Ali. Lou Nova, Tony Musto, Al McCoy, Pastor etc. These fights have never been on youtube. These fighters were great.

  • Jayboyo: Louis fought much better competition. Too bad they do not show Tony Musto, Al McCoy, Lou Nova all great strong fighters that could drop Frazier or Foreman.

  • I have a Rings Top 50 list of heavys from December 1999, now it is somewhat outdated but it gives a good reference to judge competition. On that List Ali beat thirteen of the men (Three in the top ten, where as Joe only beat six. Again I have not seen those fights you mentioned and will try to so I can gauge them but to say that Louis fought MUCH better competition is a stretch because their records suggest otherwise.

  • the rings top 50 is biased. They are there to sell, not inform. No one would read them if they listed boxers no one knows. They get the most popular boxers and place them above boxers who deserve the title as the best of the best.

  • Excellent video. I'm proud to be one of the few who puts Joe Louis over Ali when it comes to best heavyweights in the history of Boxing.

  • You should be proud, Joe Louis made more title defenses than any champion in any dividsion, and held the title longer than any champion in any divison ever! That something Ali never did, nor even came close to doing. Oh yeah as far as the bum of the month club? Louis NEVER got beat by someone with only 7 pro fights! what more do you need to say? Joe Louis without a doubt better than Ali.

  • absolutely better than ali but i still respect ali too both men were genetic masterpeice in their respective primes.

  • ur not the only one bro

  • @eldiceuf absolutely the BEST!

  • What song is this?

  • It's from the last of the mohicans sound track. I think it's called The Battle.

  • Nice video lad!

  • Thank You. Joe Louis was one of the greatest fighters ever. I can not believe what kind of power he had in both hands. He could take you out with either hand. He was full of courage and power, that is something today's fighters lack in abundance. To me he is possibly the greatest heavyweight champion ever!

  • To me he is quite possibly the greatest Heavyweight champ ever just like you said.He was the best Heavyweight combination puncher ive seen , we really dnt see heavyweights these days who pulled off combiantions like Joe Louis. I always think of Joe Louis as the greatest Heavyweight of all time thanks for uploading this video man.

  • No prob on the upload. I just can not believe his unreal punching power in both hands! He was just amazing. Be sure to check out the second part of this video now on youtube. It has at the end of the video Joe Louis's rematch with Max and more highlights!
