@Evilegi007 not necessarily, he plays better as a cam, he isn't the strongest defensive player but Barcelona's formation allows for overlapping of defenders and it isn't really exposed.

if the coaches for this nike academy have to explain this basic ass information for these kids, then i feel bad for these players cause they aint ever gonna make it. i already knew this when i was like 8 years old... basic as hell, nike.

im a city fan but fucking hell lads your giving Mikel all that stick do you know what i think ... your not slating him enough im 14 and im a better defensive midfielder than him from CDM this season in about 9 or ten games ive set up around 13 of our 28 goals aswell as helping the defence when needed two weeks ago(the last match we've played) i stood back post on their attacking corner and headed it off the line, i havent even seen mikel give a decent through ball or anything.

@Sonnyxbox360 To be fair you don't have to be an exceptional passer to be a good CDM. There are two types of CDM, ballwinner and deep lying playmaker (DLP). Most teams play a 4-2-3-1 these days incorporating both these CDMs - eg Real Madrid often play Alonso (DLP) who has awesome passing and Khedira who is great at tackling but not so good attacking. Mascherano is the same. Occasionally you get players like Lucas who can do both. But the most important thing is work rate. And yes Mikel is shit.

As a defensive midfielder, he does not know how to pass, tackle, retain possession, position himself, mark a player, or bypass a player in a one on one situation. Whenever I watch him play, I get nightmares afterwards. He is not just a bad defensive midfielder, he is an abysmal football player.
