The two cars take after each other a bit, but not enough so you can't tell them apart. The Lancia is decidedly bigger, for a start.

@215alessio yep, and they've never looked quite so striking since... though the design did seem to split opinion a bit. Personally I quite like it. Enough was carried in to the mk3 (mk2-facelift?) I had to keep it interesting, even though it seemed to share a lot of Passat design (you couldn't really call it "styling") cues by that point.
