I played drums for her in 1990 two nights in St.Louis and the 3rd night in Columbia,Mo-She was a really cool lady, told me about seeing Elvis' 1st live show at The Overton Shell In Memphis in 1954.
The thing I like most about this video is that Cordell didn't feel like she had to change her look to play hard, fast and well. The great Les Paul could blow away 85% of guitarists on his death bed, but you didn't see him with hair extensions or wearing studs & earrings. He and Cordell let their guitars do the talking.
Wow. This is an exceptionally well made video, even apart from the fact of who it's about... Look forward to buying a copy of your movie soon. Thanks for posting.
@cowboybear40 I'm kicking myself for spending my adolescence in MS just a few miles from Pontotoc, and never knowing she existed until now! Blind Melon I knew for the Butler Boys they were, and my parents used to live across the street from Elvis's birthplace, but this I missed.... I'm going to reassure myself by assuming that she was long gone from Pontotoc by then.
in a world where the word cool is so ubiquitous & over used to the point of being meaningless .... all i can say is cool like really cool unbelievably cool super fucking cool oh sooooooooo ccccccooooooolllllllllllllllllllll ... COOL !
Cordell was one of our best buddies. I did a lot of work on that ol' caddy. She would mark and sign each piece that came off and said that one day they would be worth something. She was right. They are priceless to us.
We wrote and recorded a lot of songs together, but just sitting and talking was my favorite time with Cordell.
I was lucky enough to see Cordell play at the Peabody Hotel rooftop in the late 80's...I think "slackjawed" would sum up my response...amazing doesn't quite cut it! Crazy-fast boney little hands of fury!
Brilliant production!
