@neonorchid58 I don't think the classics ever went away; maybe they got (briefly) out-marketed by "flavors of the month" music, but the ones that stand the test of time are the ones that always hold up for every generation
I have heard a lot of versions of this great song. This for me is the best one(by far) Gorden Jenkins is a genius arranger. I would've loved to have been invited to a Nat Cole recording session. Pure Magic!
i'm in my early 30's so missed the Nat days completely but thanks to my parents playing his music, I am mesmerised by his songs. Someone wrote this song? (was it Nat) it's so poetic! amazing! wow!

I laid down with with my lover in the dim light, listening to this song. It was so incredibly blissful. There wasn't sexual touches, just gentle kisses on the forehead and lips, and caresses on the skin. I realized how very much i loved him. I love this song.
Leave us not forget Nelson Riddle -- arranger extraordinaire! NKC was a great voice, so wonderfully complimented by Riddle's melancholy yet tasteful strings.
One of the greatest recordings, of one of tghe greatest songs, of any genre.
Michef, how gracious and respectful you appear in your posts. Thank you.
I well remember when R&R first appeared and its disparagement as "degenerate." The Beatles were dismissed by young people's elders as "trash and so on. Bieber and Gaga? Time, as you write, will tell.
this is absolutely wonderful...lovely pictures of God's creation of the heavens, but also great pictures of Hoagy Carmichael!! Love the shot from "Best Years of Our Lives"...timeless!
Incredible that kookie Hoagy wrote one of THE romantic songs ever written and how grateful I am to him. And.... Nat King Cole's is to me THE Definitive version .... The arrangement and his rendering... No one has or can top it. He takes one into outer space indeed.
This is a great video; but what an oversight to omit any photo whatsoever of Nat King Cole, the man who delivers here the very best version of the song! It's great to see so many perspectives of Hoagy Carmichael . . . but let's give credit where credit is due!!
@speechrighter If you'll have a closer look at the video, you'll realize there was no oversight. NKC was the greatest, but this particular video is about honoring the SONGWRITER and (possibly) his inspiration, not the musicians - however great they might have been. cheers
@rnrchef I've tried three times in the past month to tell you: "Fair enough." Your point was well taken and I appreciated your response. Most importantly, I enjoyed the excellent quality of the video. For some reason, my comment was never accepted by the system. Sorry for the delay!
@speechrighter It's all good, I just have so many other projects, websites, youtube channels, Facebook pages, etc. to juggle... I don't always find time to approve (and yes, sometimes delete/block) the many many comments this particular video generates. But I guess getting a strong reaction is the ultimate goal for any artist, right?
@speechrighter Agreed. This is the best interpretation of a song that's been recorded by all the great soloists. Orchestration by Gordon Jenkins. Wow!
Incomparable voice. This song reminds of my departed parents; nat king cole were their favorite singer. We have a long playing record which included this song.
When I was a boy my family would watch Nat King Cole on television. He had a beautiful voice. At that time there was wonderful entertainment. Andy Williams, Perry Como, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Dinah Shore, Ray Charles, Judy Garland, and the wonderful Grand Ole Opry. It was all free every week on TV. The best years of television and it was free. Today with over 200 channels there's nothing worth watching. We were so lucky and we didn't know it.
@torrents4u2c You are absolutely right about that. It's a shame that our kids will never experience "the good old days" I experienced. I'd like to think that my parents and myself have influenced my kids because when they were young, we played lots of Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra, and countless other artists from my time, and to this day, they love those songs. One good thing has come out of technology and that's the ability to pull a lot of these old shows off the internet for our kids to watch
@torrents4u2c Speaking as a TV addict, video junkie etc., I disagree: I think there's some FANTASTIC content on TV, but you have to be very discerning: Right now, I love "Breaking Bad" & "Pawn Stars"; I also dig "Weeds" and "Dexter." Ya know?
With the riots in the UK at the moment I watch these animals roaming the streets, attacking, vandalising, destroying. I have barely been alive for 18 years, but I wonder - what happened to the quest for beauty? What happened to reaching up, reaching higher?
I love this song very much. When I listen to this song, I close my eyes and feel like floating in the air. I love Nat's soothing voice. It penetrates my heart and my soul. Somehow, I feel like I've lived during Nat's days. Thanks to whoever uploaded this song.
@ohthemoonandstars what is there better to look in the night sky. A beautiful moon, and where I live I can see millions of stars on a clear night. Groovy is a word I used to say quite a bit-a long time ago.
Truly beautiful! Our grand Creator left us a beautiful "sky" to feast our eyes on, and Hoagy Carmichael left us beautiful music to "feast" our ears with! Very much appreciated! Thank you.
This is genuine music, sung by such a velvety voice to a melody and words that can be understood and not insulting to the ear or the soul. Thank you for posting this song and your choice of pics to accompany the tune.

Btw, I just heard this song in the movie Beginners, and the version was terrible! (Good movie, though.) This is, by far, my favorite version. Nat King Cole has a voice like chocolate silk. It glides across my eardrums and soothes me from the insde out.
Lovely! I have been wondering around singing this song for days and just had to
Look it up. They just don't make schmaltz like they used to. The images go together wonderfully. I used a composite cable to play this vid from my phone on my TV and had myself quite a wistful time!
How good was Nat King Cole1? He reached the heights with his mellow singing that very few before or since have done ;this in the face of rampant racial bigotry that was America in his day. RIP Mr Cole
I wanted to say some complimentary words about Nat King Cole, who was special. Yet I also wanted to make a point about the racial bigotry in his day and I can't post it.
Even so, others on YT can use all the filthy language under the sun and it's acceptable seemingly. Why isn't it sanitized as well?

This was my grandma's favorite song. I miss her so much. I have a feeling we were twin souls. This song always makes me feel like I'm closer to her. <3
Quite a thrill to hear Nat's great voice accompanied by your beautiful visuals. I love this song, just made a vid with visuals about love, thought it would compliment your cosmic theme. I hope you let me post it here to share. Thanks.
Of all the many, MANY recordings of this beloved standard, Nat King Cole's easily ranks as one of the most beautiful, 54 years after it was recorded. No less than Hoagy Carmichael, the song's composer, cited it as his personal favorite version. Nat's vocal and Gordon Jenkins' arrangement combine to create musical magic.
thanks for posting i memorized this song when i was 7 years old ... 1947 it is the only song i ever knew how to sing from beginning to end Cole's version is my favorite
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
This is real singing and what incredible control and phrasing this man had, each word said with a purpose to the end and to the feel of the song. An elegance in singing somehow lost through the years, how great that we have it recorded for generations to come. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you rnrchef for this incredible video! "Stardust" has been my favorite song since I was 19 (now 67) and Nat King Cole was my mother's favorite singer. I loved him too. The only other singer that could do this beautiful melody justice - my opinion only - is Johnny Mathis. But, when this plays in my head, it's this rendition I hear. Thank you again.
Does YouTube prohibit adding URLs in these comments or something? I hope that's not true, but that might well be the problem I'm having? So let's try this (all of these are dot coms): RockNRollKitchen; CreedenceAgain ; YouTube slash LonesomeHalos. Cheers!
And one more: Since I've been doing more & more full 1080 HD video for restaurants, bands, chefs, etc., this "Stardust" video I did years ago looks mighty fuzzy & outdated indeed. That said, I do think it confirms something a great deal of "big-time" directors and producers seem to forget, even with their multi-million dollar budgets: Quality content, even with so-so production is still solid/watchable; conversely, great production without solid content never holds up.
Can't seem to upload Part 2 of this comment?!?!? Strange. But I'll try again later to add links to my videos featuring Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Steven Adler (Guns N Roses), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons), Chip Znuff (Enuff Znuff) and Rich Perez (Creedence Again, Lonesome Halos).
Disclosure (Part 1 of 2): I am in both the food & music industries (chef & musician/writer/producer), and have worked with many talented artists in both fields (details coming in Part 2). While everyone has an opinion, my income depends upon "guessing right" about what is good/marketable, or not. In my experience, that's the major difference between being a "civilian" vs. being a professional: civilians aren't accountable financially or career-wise with their opinions - professionals are.
I can't understand how, with this beautiful gem from the past, people switched to Bieber, Gaga, and the whole gang of twisting, punk, teenage misfits of today.
@contrerados In fairness... It's probably fair to say that someone sees every new generation as "teenage misfits." In my view, the test of time is the only one that matters: great art & music always hold up, but it's too soon to judge new art or artists.
@rnrchef Beethoven was misunderstood at the beginning, and Brahms didn't have it any easier either. While it's true generalizing doesn't do any justice, it's true, however, that most of what passes for today's decadent music, is played, loved and publicized by many teenagers and older people as well. Let's not forget the Hippies and the Summer of Love--young people mostly, and that has, ever since, been developing into more sordid forms of cultural degradation. I hope teens revive this music.
@contrerados I have to agree with rnrchef. I'm a fan of Lady Gaga and all sorts of pop artists, rock artists, country and pretty much every genre. I like older music and newer music. Just because the newer artists are different then the older ones doesn't mean they are any less amazing in their own way. This song definately is a gem though. :]
As I hear this work of art I'm put in mind of family members now gone from that era. People and times that I loved growing up in that wonderful time as a child. The music makes me envision my childhood home exactly as it was ,me and all my brothers playing in our yard as my Dad washed his car and Mom in the house cooking. The safety and security of all that love. Now all gone....sigh
@Embosan Thanks for the information. Sorry that it took so long to recognize your contribution. I see images and wonder about the person. Harold Russell, your picture is forever.
Oh wow! I was looking for song to put at the end of my movie that I am writing and I fell in love with this I have watched it five times and counting! I would be honored to have this song be in my movie!
Someone I loved passed away many years ago. "He wandered down the lane, and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die" Your tribute to the King with beautiful visuals, soared through stardust and then landed gently on my heart! `
My lover, my friend, passed away 25 yrs, ago on this past Valentine's Day which is also between our birthdays. I'm the 13th of Feb. and he the 15th. Yes, 2 little happy Aquarians! I was not with him at his apt. at his time of death. He started an argument with me and I left. This was no ordinary death. He had cancer and decided it was time for him to leave. But at the time of his death I saw him one last time. "He wandered down the lane and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die!"
I think most people don't realize that 20th Century popular music falls into two periods: before Stardust and after Stardust. It changed the entire nature of popular music. And yet, most singers never attempted the song, and few of those who did sang it well. Two exceptions: Nat King Cole and Dinah Washington.
I just stumbled upon this in my usual fashion wandering around youtube. This is a gem. We are so very small. Not unimportant, just so small. Time stretches infinitely and the echoes of souls that came before us reverberate throughout eternity. A lovely way to slow down, take a breath and to remember what is really important in the long run. Thank you.
@pfcwar5150 Let's consider them as lucky guys who won' t need any kind of stardust to consolate their souls, because their innocent hearts ain't never been broken(yet).
But in the real world, losers always outnumber winners. So, more people tend to rely on some kind of stardust than those who don't.
Harold John Russell was born in Nova Scotia in 1914. He was training paratroopers at Camp MacKall NC on June 6, 1944 when some TNT he was using exploded in his hands. He lost both hands. After receiving hooks, and training on them, he was chosen to make an Army training film called "Diary Of A Sergeant". William Wyler saw the film and decided to cast him in his film The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) as a double amputee. Harold Russell played Homer Parish.
@Embosan Thanks for that info for everyone here. You gotta love the cajones shown by William Wyler to cast that vet in his movie; it would be hard to imagine any major films or their directors doing something like that today? That film is really something...
I listen to this every night. It is so calming. Thanks for posting.

Quite a thrill to hear Nat's great voice accompanied by your beautiful visuals. I love this song, just made a vid with visuals about love, thought it would compliment your cosmic theme. I hope you let me post it here to share. Thanks.

Lovely, Thank you! My favorite version of one of my all time favorite songs. Nat makes it sound so easy!
Joann1athena 7 months ago
Of all the many, MANY recordings of this beloved standard, Nat King Cole's easily ranks as one of the most beautiful, 54 years after it was recorded. No less than Hoagy Carmichael, the song's composer, cited it as his personal favorite version. Nat's vocal and Gordon Jenkins' arrangement combine to create musical magic.

Cheers!
rnrchef 9 months ago
And one more: Since I've been doing more & more full 1080 HD video for restaurants, bands, chefs, etc., this "Stardust" video I did years ago looks mighty fuzzy & outdated indeed. That said, I do think it confirms something a great deal of "big-time" directors and producers seem to forget, even with their multi-million dollar budgets: Quality content, even with so-so production is still solid/watchable; conversely, great production without solid content never holds up.
rnrchef 9 months ago
Can't seem to upload Part 2 of this comment?!?!? Strange. But I'll try again later to add links to my videos featuring Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Steven Adler (Guns N Roses), Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons), Chip Znuff (Enuff Znuff) and Rich Perez (Creedence Again, Lonesome Halos).
rnrchef 9 months ago
Disclosure (Part 1 of 2): I am in both the food & music industries (chef & musician/writer/producer), and have worked with many talented artists in both fields (details coming in Part 2). While everyone has an opinion, my income depends upon "guessing right" about what is good/marketable, or not. In my experience, that's the major difference between being a "civilian" vs. being a professional: civilians aren't accountable financially or career-wise with their opinions - professionals are.

I can't understand how, with this beautiful gem from the past, people switched to Bieber, Gaga, and the whole gang of twisting, punk, teenage misfits of today.
contrerados 9 months ago 6
@contrerados In fairness... It's probably fair to say that someone sees every new generation as "teenage misfits." In my view, the test of time is the only one that matters: great art & music always hold up, but it's too soon to judge new art or artists.
rnrchef 9 months ago 9
@rnrchef Beethoven was misunderstood at the beginning, and Brahms didn't have it any easier either. While it's true generalizing doesn't do any justice, it's true, however, that most of what passes for today's decadent music, is played, loved and publicized by many teenagers and older people as well. Let's not forget the Hippies and the Summer of Love--young people mostly, and that has, ever since, been developing into more sordid forms of cultural degradation. I hope teens revive this music.
contrerados 9 months ago
@rnrchef and Bieber will fade out of existence when he hits puberty. Nat King Cole, however, will "in our hearts he will remain".
ben091294 8 months ago

Let's enjoy our 'STARDUST'

MrCarepackage 11 months ago
@MrCarepackage He did survive:
