for an automatic you put the car in neutral right before you turn, then after you turn and your aligned straight put the car back in drive. just incase anyone wondering.
You can do it, but it will wear out your 1st gear synchro. In fact, you might be unable to even put the car in first if you happen to start shifting too soon. Double clutching will give a spin to your gearbox in the forward direction, and it'll be much easier to put it into gear. If your car is old and the synchros are worn out, it's pretty much necessary.
@feAr636 You wouldn't be able to get it into first because the intermediate shaft would still be spinning. Letting the clutch out in neutral gets things back in order and then you can proceed to first.
@T1NT33 Because when you're in reverse, your intermediate shaft is spinning in reverse. You double clutch to fix that. If you go straight from R to 1st, you'll do some heinous grinding.
@Pyroja You could shift right to first, keep the clutch pressed in until the car starts to glide forward because of the momentum and then let go of the clutch. Right?
@T1NT33 I don't know much about transmissions, but if your car is moving backwards I know that you can't shift into 1st gear (I've tried it), at least on some transmissions. So you need to shift in neutral and rev up the engine, and then you can shift into first, just like he explained on the video (also tried it). I don't really know why you need to double clutch, there are some smart people here, maybe someone can explain this. Or you can always read on Wikipedia :) or google that stuff.
You should also press the foot brakes really hard while turning to try and lock the front wheels and to prevent the car to travel too sideways on the track!
For those who remember, it was originally called The Starsky & Hutch. If your car is lowered it should be easier unless you have racing compound spec tires. It also helps to have your tires inflated to 45psi for a 36 psi max tire or 50 psi with 44psi max tires. The more rigid the tire the easier it is to rotate you car. Don't try this with a van, they flip. I tried and, really folks, they flip!
What's with you Americans and double-clutching? Seriously, why "clutch in, shift to neutral, CLUTCH OUT, CLUTCH BACK IN, shift into first"? clutch in -> shift to neutral, then to first -> clutch out, done. You guys need to learn driving stick. :-)
@Thanju lol I always wonder that too.... soo many peopl talk about its better for your clutch n blah blah blah bud IDK, for me its just a load of BS!!!
@Thanju i would recommend that if you dont know nothin about cars shut the fuck up, yo use double clutching because when you go into neutral you speed up your gearbox along with your engine if you do not do that you stress the gearbox and you may not be able to shift into first because the sycnchros arent at similar speed
Don't do it....don't do it thats the best advice in this vid. Unless your taught professionally why do you need it. Whats this a guy works and McDonalds so why does he need to u turn in a scooby wagon.
I have always been taught not to put car in reverse/first gear while the car is moving. I did happen to put the car in reverse while sliding backwards a little and the gear grinded pretty loudly. I'm not sure I want to this try sort of thing at such high speeds...
@Antony92fromcava You don't have to shift to neutral but it's better for the gearbox. It puts a lot of stress on the gearbox (On the synchronizer rings, to be exact) when you shift from reverse in 1st directly while the car is moving. The gearbox won't break immediately If you don't put in in neutral but it sure will last longer if you do so...
LMFAO WHO THE FUK DO U THINK U R CLUTCH IN CLUTCH OUT TURN OFF THE CAR AND CHANGE 3 GEARS TURN UR LIGHTS ON TAKE A DRINK OF JUCIE YANK ON THE WHEEL AND THATS HOW U J TURN U FUKIN FAG U MAKE URSELF SOULD LIKE JET LEE IN A CAR!
@mengle2004 You don't have to shift in N, but it's better for your gearbox. Because if you stay in R while just holding the clutch, all the gears in your gearbox including the friction disc of the clutch will be spinning really fast, driven by the wheels. If you shift directly to 1st or 2nd then, you put a lot of stress on the synchrounous rings of the gearbox.
If you shift in N first, you brake down the gears and friction disc first before shifting to 1st or 2nd so its better for the gearbox.
well he's got part of it right but you don't jerk the accelrator. you come off fast but smooth and count to about 2secs. This lets the car settle level rather than having your noise down and boot up.
Then turn the steering wheel but remember make sure you do it to the directs opposit to your passenger. You don't want them to come flying onto your lap now.
Also. Clutch in neutrel clutch out clutch in select a gear. Sorry but no. As soon as you have past 95degs yo want to get a gear 1 or 2nd
Remember, just cum of the gas. Jerk off the gas real fast. And put a serious jerk off on the wheel. DONT do it too many times in one day. Because gonna start getting tired and doing it wrong.
i have a doubt, while in automatic, do we need to put neutral or just fo from Reverse To Drive, i ask because i'm afraid of ruining the transmission. More or less, What's the speed you need to do this?

i BELIEVE the peugeot 308 don't roll over going backwards...
But if you do a J turn going downhill there is a chance to roll over.
Plus chek the tarmac if it has holes or "waves" (the car can roll over or smash the wheels, suspension, axles....).
Do it on a place safe like a parking lot with no cars and poles.
In the rain or on a simple slippery suface are more easier.
Be carefull and responsable :D.
