BTW, check out how much spray both of these legends are throwing out. I mean, both of them are just hucking ungodly buckets of water. The current era of acrobatic surfing is a sight to behold, but back in the 80's a normal guy could watch pros like Occy and Curren and think, "Some day, if I push it hard enough, I might be able to toss a fan like that."

This song was originally in Son Of The Last Surf Movie by Chris Bystrom from around '86/'87. It's a pretty underrated flick from that time period, which is considered a low point in surf films...the beginning of the straight-to-video era. Bystrom also did the Blazing Boards movies so it's easy to get confused.

Oh yeah this is epic. You cant compare it to today because the boys didnt have the same knowledge or technology. Plus the pro tour was completely different back then. And who cares about the quality of the waves?

Surfing would be a different sport today without this heat and those two surfers.

28 Media, Is this footage from the ABC coverage of the event (the really boring voice over indicates it might be)? If so there was a great montage at the end credits with Kong doing an absolutely incredible forhand snap/rip/reentry. There was also the one Curren reentry in the final which to this day is still the prettiest move I've ever seen. If you have this stuff could you please post it? I had the video for years but it died. I'd kill to see it again. Cheers mate.

The original audio had some guy with a very boring voice talking over most of the video (Curren this... Occy that). This was pretty much the standard for most videos made during the late 80's and tended to detract the video. Your not missing anything.
