I was referring to how the ebony blade enhances when you kill "people you've deceived"(just go with followers). The absorption goes up, not the damage. By npcs, I assumed you knew what i was talking about. I've never referred to bandits as npcs.

I read the book where the Jarl tells to the reader that the Ebonyblade drives people insane, i thought it was because the blade cannot be never upgraded but it seems that they were drove insane becuase they wanted more power actually. hope they fix it.

@Lordar90 It can be uprgaded, every time you kill 2 friends you get an extra 2 points to the lifesteal enchantment on the blade which starts at 10 and after you kill 10 friends the blade is upgraded to a maximum of 30 points of lifesteal. The blade is bugged because it functions like a one-hander even though it's a two-hander.

i know this blade looks like it is to handed but it is actually one handed and one handed perks power it up, check it ou when you put on gauntlets that power up one handed it will make it better, while 2 handed perks make no deference, i find it annoyin because only focus on putting up 2 handed

A lot of people have said its bugged but I don't think so. Mephala is the Daedric prince of lies and deceit and this is its artifact. Mephala has said herself that she feeds off lies and resulting misery (which is why killing friends empowers the blade) so is it not possible that the traits of the blade are an embodiment of Mephala? that in becoming her servant you have been tricked into killing your friends for power that ends up not being that which you hoped for. Just a thought....

It swings as fast as a one-handed weapon. It's a very special weapon, and that's why it benefits from one-handed skill perk. Just swing it, notice it's speed, and compare it to an actual two-handed weapon.

Ebony Blade being an artifact of deadric lord of deceit really does its job well, it benefits from one handed weapon skill tree, even though it still decapitates with two handed perk, it makes you kill those who would not attack you in order to gain power,

to top it all Mephala herself tells you to look at the weapon's stats and admits it sucks and that you have to spill some blood to boost its power, when you do so expecting high dmg

it stays exactly the same, what increases is only the drain

this weapon is from Mephala and being Mephala is the god of deceit and lies amongst other things. key word there being deceit. i don`t see this being glitched i think it was done on purpose.

@RurouniHeero Ok my bad it's not fixed since it's not a glitch, obviously. It would have made a too powerful weapon if it used the perk from the 2-hand skill as well as it's skill bonus, keeping in mind that most players will boost either 1-hand or 2-hand depending on the players choice. It's still a very powerful weapon when upgraded to 30 points life leech and both 2-hand skill at 100 and 1-hand damage bonus perk times 5. Awesome daedric weapon!

@RurouniHeero It is a glitch and we will likely see a fix in the near future, the only thing it benefits from is the one-handed damage enchantment. It is a powerful weapon but it can never be considered overpowered since it cannot be upgraded via blacksmithing therefore any weapon that can will always be able to surpass it in power if the character has blacksmithing, and if they have 100 enchanting as well any basic weapon can be given two enchantments leaving ebony blade behind

@RyanHawkz Check out Skyrim wiki. Bethesda said it wasn't a glitch, and it was programmed that way. I know it's not that powerful compared to other weapons (say Daedric sword with 2 ench. and fully upgr.) but still, most weapons in the game have pretty close damage points. Heck, a steel sword still has 80% of the damage a Daedric sword has when both are fully upgraded in Legendary. Maybe they'll "fix" or change the Ebony blade, but since it's a unique item, you use it if you want it.

ok.. so lets get this straight... some say it benefits from the one handed skill, some say it benefits from two handed skill and thus increase the skill and not one handed skill.

fomr using it first hand, my one handed skill is 90, my ebony blade base damage is now 43 or so, but an ebony sword's BD is 53, whilist my two handed skill is around 50, so i think the blade benefits from two handed skill, because how can a one handed weapon does more damage if they benefits from the same skill?

The Base damage of this sword depends on your level. In this case, use the console commands if you ever restart your game.

I had a fully upgraded character(all perks) with no armor enchantment(armors are all enchantment free), first time I set my character to level 30, the result is an ebony blade with 29 base damage; loaded my last save and set my character level to 50, my ebony blade has base damage 33

The special weapon are simply skins based off a common weapon. so since the only other katana in the game that has a common status is the blades katana it will fall into the same category.

I might be wrong, but the way I tested, only the damage bonus comes from one handed skill tree, the rest of the affecting perks (such as decapitating standing power attack, special sprinting power attack, etc) come from the TWO handed skill tree.

@RyanHawkz I just tested again, and to let you know how legit my testing is, I have 100 in one handed and 90 in two handed but NO PERKS IN ANY OF THEM (I'm saving up for later cause I have bad experience with perks). results in order of action: 1) "Barbarian" lvl 5 no difference in dmg. 2) "Armsman" lvl 5 dmg goes to 32 (16 base for me, no enchantments) 3) "Sav. Strike" and "Crit. Charge" no difference. 4) "Dev. Blow" and "Grt. Crit. Charge" NOW I can do critical and sprint power attack.

i was wondering about this blade. using a glitch i got all of my skills to 100. i have one hundred in two handed and one handed and have all of the pure damage perks for each. (The ones that are +20%) and my ebony blade has only 33 damage. yours has 45. i dont understand how that is possible.

It's two handed but only gains dmg from one handed. The enchant is 10 life leach... if you kill 2 of anyone you've gained trust with it will increase the life leach... kill 2 more... increase... to a max of 30 life leach per hit. It has infinite charges. So it's really only good if you have one handed perks :-\

I believe the damage is determined by your level so you should hold off on getting the blade until you're a high level so that the blade is stongest

I have Ebony Blade, it only does 15 damage, and it doesn't improve as I kill people. I've been killing off the people who offer to follow me, and so far I've killed three and heard nothing from Mephala and the sword hasn't improved. I've also gone on random killing sprees through Whiterun just for the hell of it and still it doesn't improve, though I have heard her whisper to me. Is there anyway to make it stronger? It'd be such a good sword if it only did more base damage.

@RotnRoll77 If you read the annotation it states that the base damage of the blade does NOT go up when the blade improves, only the enchantment improves. Also the lady whispers to you many times and I'm not sure but I believe she needs to whisper you a certain number of times before it actually becomes empowered. The blade is bugged and the enchantment that gives + % to one handed damage increases the damage of the blade hence why mine is 45 in the video, instead of two handed.

There seems to be a 'charge' bar like with any other enchanted weapon, but it didn't ever fill up when I killed off people. Lame.

what i done was, i killed my wife then killed all the battle-borns in Whiterun, if you have done the quest that involves the battle-borns then kill them that should restore the "Ebony blade" to its full power so says the whispering lady.

When you attack a holds guards do the citizens attack you also? When I get this sword I'm planning to power it up on the guards of Windhelm. Maybe the reason the damage isn't increasing is because you've maxed it out already? Does the damage not increase when your 2H goes up as well?

@sonpacho Some of them attack, unless you do it secretively I think. I've never powered it up and I have little skill in two handed so I can't have maxed it out already, and if I had she wouldn't have whispered to me. I'll have to find out what really happens when she whispers. I think the blade is downright bugged in general, but still awesome and overpowered. I dont know if the damage increases when two handed goes up because I've barely used it since I dual wield.

I have not tested whether it benefits from + % to twohanded damage as well.

@FeelingSoFresh Not as far as I know but there is one handed katana's, during the blade quest line Delphine has one on a weapon rack in her secret room in the inn at riverwood, it's called blades sword or something like that, it's better than ebony weapons when upgraded. Also during the same quest line when you're in that old temple there is a magical one called dragonbane, it's very powerful stronger than the normal blade sword. I'm using them both at the moment!

@RyanHawkz I think the reason that the blade wasn't upgrading for you on regular NPCs is because you have to use it on someone you've completed a quest for, such as the woman with a stall in Whiterun after you beat up her bard stalker.

@solmyr2 Haha yeah I know, I hung it up on my weapon rack and it vanished and I was freaking out, googled it and discovered it happened to someone else, but then I found it lying on the floor beneath the rack. Fortunately I haden't been gone long before I noticed it missing so it was still there, for others they went off questing and when they came back it was gone completely. So yeah don't hang it up on a rack. Also it still increases two-handed weapon skill, but benefits from +% to one handed
