I once bought an RG250. I was 18 at the time. Bloody near killed myself on it. I can't imagine the skill it must have taken to control a full on race ready 500cc GP machine. Incredible!

Quando substituíram as 500 2T pelas 1000 4T fizeram uma enorme "tramóia" para esconder a verdade que humilharia as 4T. Chamaram a categoria de MOTOGP, para que a nova geração não soubesse o quanto os 2T são mais rápidos que os 4T. Tem gente que pensa até hoje que os 4T substituíram os 2T por causa do desempenho, foi pela poluição. Agora acontece o mesmo na MOTO2 (600 4T pelas 250 2T) e em 2012 as fracas 250 4T de 45cv ficarão no lugar das 125 2T. O motociclismo perdeu a graça.

I don't see that the Honda is massively faster. Gardner gains a bike length or two coming up the hill, but doesn't blast by as he did in other years.

I remember an interview Lawson gave saying Gardner (Honda) bitched Lawson had the better bike (Yamaha) and thats why he always was winning. Lawson was offered more money by Honda, and to prove to Gardner it was the pilot and not the bike, he went to Honda and won world champion against Gardner on the same Rothmans/Honda team Gardner rode for. Both pilots shared the same Honda chief mechanic. It was the pilot!

@saloei I think you're missing the point that Gardner missed most of the season after Laguna Seca because of a crash. Wayne won the first round in Philip Island, so theres no telling how the championship would have turned out with Rainey, Lawson, Schwantz AND Gardner in TOP form that season. At that '89 was pretty spectacular to be sure!

@saloei lawson only won 4 races on the honda in 89 as opposed to 8 on the yamaha in 88 so yam was infact better
