....a perfectly viable piece of hardware to this very day. It seems she'd be able to carry that same 14-thousand pounds those thousands of miles, exactly right now.
there's one sitting in an air museum in Auckland new Zealand, was flown to NZ then put on display and then restored to one of the squadrons colours of bomber command (cant remember which one tho), guys i know who have worked on it say it is still very airworthy, sad that no-one here has actually put their hand up to get it back in the air
@stockcar269s that would be good but if you think about it - if anyone fortunate enough to fly it - in NZ and it crashed thats it 1 plane left in the world. Its a huge responsibility!
Im lucky enough to see the Lanc about 2/3 times a year flying over my house on is way to displays, even though ive now seen it many times its still so gacefull to watch and awesome to listen to - long may it continue!
He Flew Lancs from 45 to 46 ... stayed in touch with all of his crew untill one by one they passed on so farewll to Kenny, "Sammy" Samms, Eric, "Bud" Abbott, "Whipper Watts" and the boys !
My dear old DAD (passed away 2007) flew Wellingtons and Halifaxes 1944 -45 !"tail end Charlie and Mid upper Gunner / Wireless OP .. had his hearing stuffed due to gunnery, and knackered legs because of the cold on 11 hour missions from Scampton .. have his "lincoln Imp" good luck charm .. he made it 55000 guys didnt .. which is why Im here respect ! RIP Dad xx
There is one sitting in a museum in Auckland ,NZ.The only thing stopping them getting it off the ground is money...but it has been lovingly restored.Irony is that they got it from the Italians!Google MOTAT
what an awsome sound that is was lucky enough to see the City of city of lincoln land at elvington airbase a few years ago along with the Sally B they also had a Halifax bomber they had built up un-airworthy but was amazing seeing the 3 big bombers of ww2
