The firmware has often broken features on this player, such as networked movie-playing features. For 3 months, it failed in many ways and still does for USA consumers. Avoid.
Other than a couple of .mpeg files, I am unable to see any video files via the BX-100 wi-fi adapter and my main computer in another room. It sees the folders, but nothing in them. The Sony Playstation in the living room can see them and play them, with the occasional DLNA network error. However the BDP-BX37 keeps giving me a "NO PLAYABLE FILES" error message when I browse media folders for video. Doesn't see .avi or .mp4 even though the specs say it will play them. HELP!
Thanks for the review man, How is the player still working for ya? I just bought this on Ebay for 80 bucks brand new and it's my first blu ray player. I won't really use the internet on it since i have an xbox. So i was just wondering how it's still working for ya?
Weird this and the s370 is the same thing, but only the bx37 includes a free hdmi cable. Didn't matter since I already had some laying around. Love the bravia sync feature.
Can it play all Computer video files like MP4, MPEG and AVI? My cousin has a SONY blu-ray player that does but it only works with a FLASH memory stick. I tried pluggin my Seagate 1TB external HD into the USB port and it wouldnt work. I thought that was kinda strange. You would think a powerful HD would work on it before a 1 GB flash stick would
got the BDP-BX37...thanks for the review. very helpful...you recommended going for the wired version. Just curious as to why you recommended wired over wireless....does getting the adapter for wireless cause more potential problems? thanks again!
@NUTRIAMAN The wired is just a preference. I have been running wired recently for netflix and I have no buffer time at all. The picture is straight 1080 (i think) and it never pixelates. I would say you could run wireless as long as you are not to far away from the wireless hub. (high signal)
I appreciate the review. I'm looking into purchasing a blu ray, been doing a lot of comparative shopping. How would you comment on the following: 1) Disc loading speed 2) Frequency of picture or sound anomalies 3) Why does the blu ray require firmware updates. Are they mandatory? 4) How well does it upconvert standard dvd's 5) Is the blu ray loud when in use?
This one looks like a strong contender for a purchase. Thanks again man, keep the reviews coming

Why do you need a wi fi connection if the player is hooked up to your tv, which is connected to the cable?

What movies can it play as far as file types? I've tried xvid and avi and neither worked.
