tip for people who want 40D, 17-85 is decent lens but if you are going to use it wide (17-20mm) it has some serious barrel distortion, i recommend going with 28-135,also kit lens, even though its pretty old lens performance is very nice, and no distortion. on top of this 17-85 is pretty slow lens, i have old tammy 17-35(full frame) and it much faster than 17-85 my friend has, and much less distortion
current line up: canon 28-135, 50mm f1.8, tamron 17-35
did you get 50D? how is it? what i've been reading lately is that 40D has better high ISO performance, and doesn't need L lenses to take good pictures, can you back it up?
grande!!!

I own a 40d and a 5d mk2 but I've tried the 50d and there's a significant difference between the 5d mk2 to 40 and 50 , but from 40 to 50 hardly any

yup, you need perfect L glass to have any usable difference between 50D and 40D
but even 5D mk1 is incredible camera, practically no noise at any ISO

Well , I had the chance to test them (a few times) with an ef 24-70 mm f2.8 L usm , mostly I own a few other lenses but this is the one I use most

And it is nowadays cheaper per GB as well. Besides this they are (apparently) environmentally more efficient.
