If you stab somebody with that, the duct tape may very well latch on to itself and keep the open cell on the end compressed. Besides that, it's a pretty thin layer for those kinds of foam on the end. I suggest not trimming the open cell on the top, and instead of putting duct tape across, tape the corners down to keep it secure, then use a cloth cover.
Just a suggestion from who fight with foam swords... In the end it is sad that you can use the tape all along the sword... But it should be done, because it increases the life time of your sword and just that tipe of tape what was sad, because it have a cotton prottection the others no.
PVC is $1.50 for 10 feet glue is about 7 bucks foam about 7 bucks. that is a total of $15.50 and you ahve enough to make 3 swords or more....do the math moron
If it wouldn't I'd be very surprised. But be warned, I have made many swords with this style. They break down fast. This is a good starter sword because it's incredibly cheap and easy to make. If you want to fight regularly, I'd suggest checking the level 2 or 3 sword, and then trying a few new ideas.
Best suggestion I can give you is to watch as many boffer construction vids as you can and find what you think works best. Building boffers is about 50% experimentation.
how do you make a tip, I made a level 3 sword with my own ideas and for a stabbing tip what all is required? Does it have to be a pointed edge, or does it have to have the green high density foam? cause that is expensive. Or can I just put another blue foam strip and bevel down for a pointed look?
The stabbing tip does not need the open cell. This I know from experience. If you watch the addendum, there's actually a nice way to make easier tips. If you wanna make a closed cell tip and bevel it, I'd say 3 layers would be a good idea, but if you think 2 will be safe, then by all means work with it.
He also said that before the silicone caulk dries, it acts as a lubricant. If you are putting the pipe through the swim noodle, it sounds easier to use the caulk.
I'm a newb too but I checked on it at the official website and the answer to your question is unfortunately no. But the Level two sword is as long as you have a cloth cover.
heck this iis too hard do what i did get a noodle for pool duck tape a piece of wood that at the end forms a circle that is bigger than the hole then shove it end but its hard lol and then you cut off a piece of the noodel and theres your handle bottom then duck tape it all together it works for me but if wrong directions sorry
lol my swords lokk kinda crappy...they are lvl 2 ones but look good enough.....and for a cover i had some knee high socks for a cover and cut up a few o them to make a cover...worked nicely
u mean legolas? if u do u can't really make those swords easily....they are hard to do but look awesome...would require bending pvc and if u check out boffer sword vids they are made for things like that.....only way i can think of for it to look like that
i love legolas's swords, but find hunters querry knives, as they are called, are not the bes weapon for larping. they require exesive training to use properly i find
has anyone ever seen "final destination" I can't remember which of the series... the one where the girl gets her skull stabbed by a broken pvc pipe. What happens to a foam sword if the pvc fractures inside the foam? What if one decides to thrust upon an opponent unaware that their foam sword is now concealed weapon? Is there a safer comparable material to use?

You guys are awesome :) No this is not Dagorhir legal and is ONLY meant for kids who would like an easy sword design to beat each other up with. Level 1 for me means "BEGINNER". I am currently working on videos for some higher level weapons.
As for swim noodles, the ones I use are 1" thick (and only cost $1.50) and hold up remarkably well with moderate use - which is all these swords are intended for - and very fun moderate use at that!
Sorry again but this is NOT Dagorhir legal. The foam is not adacuit just using one single layer that is a half inch thick as most "pool noodles" are. This sword would fail in Dagorhir b/c hits to hard.
Very nicely put together vid, Have to warn watchers though, that even though Dagorhir and Belegarth are Tagged on this vid, this sward would very likely not pass a weapon inspection. Although Pool noodle is not prohibited, it quickly breaks down and becomes dangerous in both of these games.

Most chapters have rules against having metal or wooded cores in weps. Just something to keep in mind when making your own.
But from my own experience, pvc works great and last a very long time.
