  • Good for Stevens!

  • this was 1 of the greatest moments in hockey history and @jeremybbaxter i bet anyone would have tried to hold their tears in n shit lol they make a movie bout ray

  • Awesome

  • Man. I still remember standing in my living room for the last 2 minutes of the game trying not to break into tears until it was finally over.

  • this gives me chills everytime i see this

  • joe sakic's wrist shot over brodeur's left shoulder is probably the best wrist shot i've ever seen in my life

  • Joe Sakic, Ray Bourque, Stevie Y et al....the last of the generation of old guard class players who were in the sport for all the traditional reasons.....throw Adam Foote and a few other guys now hanging up their blades in there for good measure as well. Hockey....the finest, most gruelling/demanding and most thrilling team sport on the planet...bar none.

  • Joe Sakic with one of the classiest moves in sports history.

  • i get goosebumps and a little teary eyed just watching ray and how excited he was. i cant even imagine how he felt at that moment, after working 21 years for something and finally getting it... he was on top of the world.

  • Even though I am an avid Red Wings fan and I hate the Avs, this is one time I will admit I was rooting for them to win it all so Ray could finally get it. One of the all time best Hockey Moments.

  • Sakic was pure class as a player, leader and good friend.

  • Sakic is just a pro. and Gary Thorne's call when he makes that wrist shot over Brodeur's glove is unforgettable. "sakic on the power play, sakic fakes it... takes it..SCORES!!!!!!!!!'

  • the best pass in sakic's carreer

  • I loved this moment. I'll never forget Bourque handing his number 7 to Phil Esposito on his retirement as a surprise. Bourque deserved this. One of the true good guys in sports.

  • LMAO @ 0:52 best fan EVER :)

  • I've been a bruins fan since birth, but after this game I went out and got an avalanche jersey, and still have it to this day hanging up in my closet next to my bruins jerseys :)

  • Holy shit Ryan Bourque is the spitting image of Ray.

  • 1:45 Roy, Bourque, Sakic and Foote... one of the most legendary group hugs EVER

  • @CursEfiction just missin forsberg

  • man i cried after watching this even tought im a mats sundin fan

  • ray bourque? moar liek cy bourque. amiriteamiriteamirite?

  • Ironically, that same boy that's crying at his dad lifting the cup will play for team USA at the juniors and is a prospect of the Rangers. Mr. Ryan Bourque.

  • joe sakic is one of the best of all time and the best captain of all time

  • What a tear jerker. Seeing his son's face while he's raising the cup, let me tell you. You love to see a guy like this finally get to put it over his head.

  • Ray Bourque has said bobby orr was the greatest defenseman of all time.

  • @dwati7 ya bobby orr in my opinion is the person you think of when told defenceman

  • @dwati7 That's because he was. But who had a larger heart?

  • As a bruins fan i love Ray...hes my favorite Bruin. I love and respect Colorado and especially Sakic for giving him the cup they way he did without even lifting it....i will live and die a B's fan but thank you Joe sakic and the rest of the Avs 01 team for allowing one of our greatest players to raise the cup....i just wish he could of raised it in a bruins jersey

  • if you're from Boston...tough to have a dry eye watching this one...one of a kind he is

  • is that jason arnott saying that to him at 1:55 ? i mean, smiling and hugging him after he just lost the stanley cup? thats fucking awesome

  • After what Bourque did for Phil, it's hard not to love him.. Chills every time.

    Go Caps!

  • ray is a great player but like noone is like GRETZKY

  • @nicchioss Gretzky was a forward and Bourque was a defender you really cant compare them. They both were the best at their position for a long time.

  • @nicchioss Good thing this isn't about Gretzky. Good thing no one is comparing him to Grezky. Good thing Ray Bourque is a one of a kind...

  • I'm neither Avs nor Bruins fans, I'm only 20 and have never seen Bourque play, but this is an impressive video!

  • I love hockey ;' )

  • Even though I am an avid Detroit fan and I hate the Avs, I had so much respect for Joe Sakic after this one...

  • why is this moment so big?

  • @lllineee Bourque is one of the best defensemen overall (top 10 for sure) and prior to winning the Cup, he had played around 20 seasons in Boston - he did his best but they never went to the Cup finals, except for Bourque, the team was never very good.

And after 20 years of waiting, he came to Avs and in his second season he finally won. Prior to that, he was probably the best player who hadn't won the Cup yet.

  • @MichaelCermak my bad, I forgot that Bruins went twice to the finals, but both times they lost to Edmonton.

  • @MichaelCermak He's THE best offensive defensivemen in the league's history without a doubt. He holds #1 in goals scored, assists, and points for defensemen.

  • @ebtricks i absolutely LOVE bourque, and i agree he is one of the best defenseman ever to play the game, but he's the second best offensive d-man, you cant take that away from orr, he doesnt have the same career numbers as bourque, but he also played almost 1000 less games

  • @JDJAKS Do some math on statistical averages (to balance the stats between them) and come back to me. I would do it myself, but I feel lazy right now.

  • @ebtricks Bourque = 0.979 Points per game, 71 Points per season,

Orr = 1.392 Points per game, 83 Points per season

  • @JDJAKS Good to know.

  • @lllineee and the moment is so big, beacuse the captain and the best player on the team didnt even take a skate with the trophey, he passed it off to his team mate instantly

  • I was 9 at the time when the Wings-Avs rivalry was at it's peak and despite me hating Coiorado with a passion, I was incredibly happy that they won it with Ray Bourque, even at that age I knew it was special for an old guy like him, that's the first time I've felt great happiness for a player who waited YEARS for it

  • Joe Sakic's best assist of his career is this pass to Ray Bourque.

  • i love it how he looks like a little kid at christmas right at the end of the video hehe

  • This was possibly one of the classiest, most epic moments in all of hockey. It would have been an absolute travesty if Bourque didnt get his cup. And god dammit you gotta love Sakic.

  • Gives me the chills. I just watched the new NHL playoff commercial of this, wow.

  • I'm a diehard Flyers fan but I was pulling for the Avs in this series and to see Bourque raise the Cup was a magical moment. I'm glad I got to see it!

  • @rudd420

I am a diehard flyers fan as well but that year I was all for the Avalanche. It was such a good series I had to cry a little bit at the end! Hockey is such a great sport!

  • Sacik immideately handing the Cup over to Borque: perhaps the greatest moment in NHL history. No one deserves it more.

  • @mase5701 Yeah youre right, the only one i can remember that deserved to win but didnt, that was even close to deserving it as much, was Mats Sundin.

  • No one deserved to raise that cup more that year. I vividly remember crying when Sakic passed it to Ray. Thank you, Colorado, for making our captain's dream come true.

  • wow I never noticed his kid there before...powerful stuff.

  • this is gold

  • I'm a rangers fan and this is just awesome. Players like Ray deserved holding the cup up so much

  • amazing video

  • my god, sakic just turns and immediately hands it over to bourque, hes such a class act

  • Man i'm all tearyeyed :') look at jis kid 2:10

  • To NeilFraudstrong....The guy was Jason Arnott.

  • Don't feel sorry for being retarded, Bourque would never bring u down because of that...

He's a D-player, and u really expected him to carry a team to the cup ? You make no fuckin sense... I doubt u know anything about hockey you are American, stick to football... that sport that u guys play with your hands (another example of American stupidity)

  • Assuming you're Canadian.. doesn't Canada play football..? Oh yeah, they do. Also.. who is the main beneficiary of the NHL.. I think that's the States where most of the teams are now... strange..

  • @luciusETRUR Of course the states has more teams, you have a bigger population and more states then we have provinces.

Also over 50% of NHLers have come from Canada.

We proved it to you 3 weeks ago in our country

    That this is OUR Game

  • You proved it by losing 5-3 in preliminary and almost giving a game you guys dominated and were forced to overtime? You proved that American hockey is right up there with Canadian hockey.

  • Typical american can't take losing.

One team has won almost 25% of the stanley cups, that team is canadian.

I will stand by my country no matter what while most of you stand by the front counter or in a drive thru

  • That's like saying Russia has the most gold medals. It really doesn't mean a whole lot. Canadiens won most of their gold medals during a much smaller league. When was the last time a Canadian team actually won the trophy?

Also, Canadians are probably the least dominant of any country at a sport they invented in the last 200 years.

  • @luciusETRUR You obviously do not know hockey, Gold Medals are not won at the end of the season, it's Called the STANLEY CUP, you may have heard of it. Most recognizable trophy in pro sports

  • @InspectedxInspector No, I'm talking about IIHF. Which in fact you win gold medals, and that is the organization that puts on the Olympic Hockey Games, as well. I was referencing the Canadian Hockey Team, and not the Montreal Canadians.

    Maybe, you should learn more?

  • @luciusETRUR Well I could only assume that you were talking about the Montreal Canadiens as you spelt it CANADIENS the french spelling, Team Canada is Canadian, note the different spelling.

  • Pitiful you are! Maybe oneday you can like yourself, be proud to be a considerate man who gave his all for something he truly believed in. Crosby didn't win a cup cup for "his" team. He was a part of it! Now go.... and never have children.....for they will be cursed to be biologically associated with such a terd! Have a nice day!!!

  • @DBFL88

lol.. "your a bitch ray and your son sucks too"

    what are you, 11?

cos you cant possibly be -88, if you are, fucking act like it

  • you are a dickless piece of shit for beakin ray.

  • wow youre mature.

you have a lot of anger you cant let out in your real life.

not to mention you dont seem very smart.

tell me, were you molested and beat up at school as a young child?

    thats my first guess.

  • Also, HUGE respect for the guy from the Devils going up to Ray and saying, "Congratulations, you deserve it" with a smile on his face. I mean, it was game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals which he had just lost, a devastating moment. What class that was.

  • @NeilFraudstrong

Jason Arnott scored the cup winning goal the year before against Dallas (which for a sabre fan like me was poetic justice). So no doubt he was glad that Bourque was gonna have the moment he truly deserved. Arnott, Burnaby Joe, this moment was just class personified. You don't see that in any other sport.

Bourque is always my hockey hero.

  • From boston. This one of my favorite moments in NHL history. Every great player deserves a cup and to see him go 20 years without one was painful. He really deserved it

  • Ray bourque deserves the cup. I would of preferred him to win it in boston but either way he changed the game and deserves what he has worked so hard to get.

  • no goal, no move, no assist will last in my mind! all i will remember is passing the cup without raising it, thats what i call classy!

  • @MacBecks one of the best moments fosure, but my FAV joe sakic moment, his

500th goal, i was in the stands, the crowd was TOTALLY silent, his parents were standing , for about 10 second, than within 10 after that seconds, when everyone realized who it was and what goal it was, the growd was standing and going wild, gives me chills to this day

  • i will live and die a BRUINS fan...BUT the colorado avalanche gave the bruins fans something that we will never forget...thank you. Joe Sakic is a class act

  • @tigerhockey7 And Joe Sakic stayed with one franchise his entire career too,not counting when Quebec transferred to Colorado!

  • @tigerhockey7 please no one else thumbs this up... it is ment to be

  • @tigerhockey7 From An Avalanche Fan I Thank You And Congratulate You For Your Team Winning

  • @blewidescorpio Awesome! Thank you!

  • Sakic is most gentleman player in NHL.

  • Yeah. It is sad that he just retired recently. =(

  • its great how sakic handed it to bourque right away

  • Kudos to Josip (Joe) Sakic.

    This guy is amazing.

    Leading Quality vs Scorerpoints

    Joe, you know what's important...

    This's a really Captain :).

  • he was so happy.. that face at the end is priceless

  • It sucks the Devils lost Game 6&7, but it really didn't hurt that much, the Devils won the year before and would win 2 years later and Ray Bourque got his first cup win.

  • pretty easy to win shit load of cups when your team has been in the league for 100 years

  • "Sakic fakes it, takes it, SCORES!!!!!!!"

We will miss u Super Joe

  • Amen man. Sakic was a classy guy. Any hockey fan had to like him. I'll miss watching him play.

  • I know. Thus kid in my school (Yankees fan) says the sox suck cause they haven't won 26 championships. Just cause a team isn't a Montreal. Steelers. Yankees. Celtics. Dynasty dosent mean ther nit good

  • Too all the people debating Wings vs. Pens....GTFO this video. Either watch and appreciate 2 of the classiest players in NHL history (Bourque and Sakic) or go do your arguing somewhere else.

  • wow sakic passes the cup to ray,b my god, what a class act, even at that level sakic rose like a shining star, clap clap, hes the man way to go,

  • Joe Sakic, you are the legend~!

  • Unbelievable. Joe Sakic is a player that everyone should look up to. What a legend! It's sad that he had to retire. I hope everyone cherished the time he played cause there will likely never be another player with that much class, especially to do what he did for Ray Bourque. Doesn't even raise the cup...

  • true. sakic is one of the few players that scored over 600 goals in his career. and i still think he is underrated.

  • He was underrated cuz he played in the same era as too many great centers

  • Joe Sakic, He is the classiest man in the NHL, a real hockey player, doesn't even raise the cup, hands it to Bourque. You probably won't see something like that ever again, as sad as it is to say, the younger players just don't seem to have that skill yet, of course, playing for the cup with a man like Ray Bourque, will not happen again, he was an amazing player.

  • his son is drafted by the rangers and his favourite player is zach parise, should be fun to see him go up against his favourite player later in the future

  • 01 avs were the best team in history

  • I agree!!!

  • wow sidney crosby looks just like ray bourque

only pittsburgh rules and red wings drule

    ha ha ha ha ha

sid the kid sid the kid

  • you do know it should have gone to O.T. in game six right. Kennedy interfered with Lidstrom just before he scored. It was a dog goal too.

  • I just watched the highlights...did not even see Kennedy touch Lidstrom...did not know that was interference.

  • it didn't happen right before he scored. plus they also got away with another penalty when stall clearly pushed a detroit player in to fleury and detroit got called for goaltender interference. kinda makes you wonder.

  • Sid the Kid Crosby is next ray bourque

    C - hampion

    R - espect

    O - Offense

    S - uper

    B - rilliant

    Y - oung

That is right people don't hate Sid crosby the next ray bourque only with more stanley cups yup yup yup

  • dude my bro knows someone who went to hight school with "sid" and crosby would bully him for not being a big jock like him.

  • you forgot pussy

  • True true

  • no p in crosby and didn't think the bruins won the cup this year oo that's right the canes eliminated them..haha

  • @ant4life33 crosby deserves respect only because he has quick hands, and how do you get quick hands? by being lonely and jerkin one out, that's probably why he didn't shake hands when they beat the red wings. and since when does offense have two o's? and young? what the hell does that have to do with anything? get outta here!

  • @TMBgnargnar

Hope you are not Canadian...if you are he won us a gold medal dumbass. If you are an American then you are just bitter he beat you. Which one?

  • @kokoth i'm not Canadian, I was going for both teams actually, and yet he is still the person I least respect on either team. So neither. I'm not bitter over a loss, you should be bitter we handed you a loss, and forced o.t. in your own country. bite the big one kid.

  • @TMBgnargnar

Haha you say you were going for both teams and then clearly show you were cheering for America. Try making sense. Any real hockey player will tell you its all about winning the games that matter and we won the gold medal game. Bite the big silver one, I'll bite the big gold one.

  • @kokoth No you wont, you didn't win it and you don't have one so you can't.

  • @famouslastnerd

Umm you are? Mind your own business nerd.

  • My friends and I were talking about this moment last night and we are Flyers fans but its hard not to recognize an amazing player/career ... Ray Bourque is the man, so awesome that Sakic handed him the Cup to hoist first ... both class acts all the way

  • nick lidstrom still owns bourque

  • Bourque owns your motha!

  • what nick lidstrom is a loser just like the red wings losing game 7 of the cup finals to pengiuns.. ha ha ha

    pengiuns 2

    red wings 1

sidney crosby the next ray bourque

  • ignorant idiot.....

First off, Sid is a center....Ray was a D man.....

second, Nicklas Lidstrom, also a D man, and any NHL player will agree with me, is probably the best all around D man in the league right now

Third, Sidney Crosby is just a very good player who happens to have a pretty bad temper as well. That being said, I gained a lot of respect for him this season.

Fourth, I am a die hard Devils fan so I think I come from an impartial POV.

  • What u a devils fan. wow your team comes from the smelly state of NJ.

No wonder why great players don't want 2 play for the devils.

  • i'm a habs fan but excuse me, marty brodeur, scott stevens, zach parise. i'm also from Toronto, Ontario

  • no body cares those players stink.

  • Brodeur shattered Roy's record for wins incase you didn't know. Also the penguins are a dump and chase team which is terrible, unintelligent hockey. the wings are a puck possesion team which actually takes skill and brains. and the penguins are packed with brats who take stupid penalties when things don't go their way e.g. the five nothing game in detroit. plus detroit scored more goals than pittsburgh in that series. anway, the series was cursed from the start with awful ice.

  • agreed plus the calls on detroit were horrible and pitt got away with so many high sticks, offsides, and interference i couldnt believe it im not a fan of either team but detroit kinda got screwed in that aspect it may have not changed the outcome but man it was unfair the NHL deff was in favor of pitt cuz of crosby

  • finally someone agrees with me=)

  • i'm not a fan of either team but it sounds like your just whining and making excuses like a bitch.

and props to Sakic for his class handing Bourque the cup. Sakic's legend has been set in stone now that he's retired

  • ur right i am being bitchy and for good reason

  • shut up for real it as a great seriesthe pens won quit being a litte bitch... i didnt make excuses last year you guys so fuck yourself

  • Comment removed

  • sry for the deleted reply. i'm a habs fan but i just want whats good for the game of hockey. i know a diehard pittsburgh fan that said he thought some of the games were unfair. whether they were or not is something we will probably never know, but i personally think they were. i'm happy that your team won the cup, it is a great feeling that, being my age, i have never had. but next year i am hoping for a completely different final. p.s. i've always been a bitch; it's hard to change.

  • hmmm kinda crazy zets putting his hand on the puck in the crease... penalty shot big guy...it was let go each way i know hockey i lie and breath it...played it for 15 years from mites to college and if it was not called down the middle i would admit it....

  • some calls sucked for us and i can admit we got away with some things...but champions overcome adversity and dont bitch about it... like how we overcame crosby being down... being down 0-2 in two series... being out of the playoffs and being two games away from five hundred on feb 15th and turning it around...thats what championship teams do... so please dont hate on the pens look at the

  • detroit also survived a hell of a lot games without their star centre. i also forgot to mention that i thought detroit got lucky a lot too, not with their wives, but with the zetterburg thing and a lot of other shit. anyway i'm glad it's over because that series almost gave me a brain hemorrhage.

  • umm broduer you simple fuck what do you call him..lol or scott stevens

  • "sidney crosby the next ray bourque" do you even watch hockey beyond the finals? I mean come on now that comparison makes no sense. and I'm not talking skill level or anything like that I mean just in every way.

  • stanley cups

    red wings 11

    penguins 3

  • red wings are an original six team...for them to only have 11 wins is pretty pathetic...take the montreal canadiens...they are an origninal 6 team nd look how many they have won, 26

penguins havent been around as long so u cant compare because theres about a 50 year gap distance between the two teams existance

    redwings around form the start

    penguins founded in 1967

a lot of more time for the red wings to win 11 stanley cups

    dumbass

  • 11 Stanley Cups is very good, Please don't Compare Montreal's 24 cups to any team ever.

Just because you haven't won 24 cups doesn't mean your not a great hockey team

  • ok our home town of 4000 back in 1907 beat montreal for the cup so they didn t play that many good teams

  • red wings are tied for second in stanley cup wins of all time. and LAboody is right you can't compare anyone to montreals 24 because that was just pure domination. so i guess you're saying every other original six franchise sucks even thought they had to go up against the montreal canadiens of 1955-1979. besides the redwings won 4 or 5 stanley cups in a LOT less time than it took pittsburgh to win 3. besides detroit has four stanley cups in the past 11 years and the pens have 3 in 17. go habs go

  • 24 stanley cups. Montreal cant compete with the league the way it is now. maybe with 16 teams they couldve. you call 11 cups pathetic, but its funny how the Detroit Red Wings are ranked as the number 4 Franchise in the world. i have tons of respect for Montreal and the way they used to dominate, they have classy fans, but its pathetic for you to think that the Wings having 11 cups is pathetic.

  • I've never been an Avs fan, nor a Bruins fan. But I've got all the respect in the world for Ray Bourque and I can't help but tear up when I see him raise the cup, and when I see the look on his son's face.

  • truest statement from the commentators " The city of Boston on their feet they have watched this series as if Ray Bourque was still one of the Bruins" 100% true i rooted for Colorado for those 2 years only time i have rooted for another team besides a Boston team (hence i live in Boston) the next morning it was all over the papers. Hockey is the best

  • props to the devils for being gracious in defeat.

  • As a B's fan I was struggling to hold my emotions in when the moment got closer for Bourque to finally win the Cup. What a great class act from Sakic to hand over the Cup to him when he could've skated a lap with it. I've never forgotten about this night! Just so grateful to know that my team boasts the two greatest defensemen in the history of the game! Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr.

  • Stanley Cup ticket at Pepsi Center: $85

    Avs Playoff Program: $5

22 years for one reward: Priceless.

Some things money can't buy, for everything else there the NHL, where dreams come true.

    Love ya Ray!!!

2nd Greatest Ever. (only to Bobby Orr.)

  • Joe Sakic is a class act that guy is one of the greatest players ever I dont care who you like you got to love him

  • yea buddy i have to agree with you. im a devils fan and i can tell you honestly that i was glad to see bourque raise the cup, and sakic handing it right over to him as soon as he got it was great.

one of the only moments in nhl history that have made me tear up. the other being when vald konstantinov was given the cup on the ice the year after he was in that bad crash.

sakic is up there as one of the greatest captains ever in my book.

  • great call! joe is just a class act all the way, immediately turning and givin him the cup. pure class

  • I feel the same way about Yzerman even though I am an Avs fan. We hate the Wings but no Avs fan in their right mind could ever hate Stevie Y. We respected him and I think most of us would choose to watch him in his prime over most of the players we see today.

  • Exactly I'm a canucks fan but I'll never hate on guys like Iginla and Sakic

  • I cried when Ray hoisted the Cup. It was the greatest ending to a season ever!

  • Cried too, what a man he was... and still is!

  • Agreed completely. It sounds cheesy, but I still tear up whenever I watch him hoist the Cup. This is probably one of my top sports moments ever.

  • im a huge bruins fan and im glad he finally got his due because he was so great and deserved it

  • lol @ ray bourque's sons face 2:11

  • definitely in the top five d men of all time.

  • i am so happy that ray borque eventually won a stanley cup it would have killed me for him to not have

  • ray bourque and bobby orr are the best defenseman of all time

  • Borque was great, no doubt about it. I must say though that I think Nick Lidstrom has passed up Ray Bourque now as second best ever. Bobby still ranks number 1. If the Wings get two more Cups with Lidstrom and he pick up a couple of more Norris trophys, I might vault Nick as being the best ever.

  • I've been watching the the NHL since the first year of the second six, the 1967-68 season. Look at the Red Wings record since Lidstrom joined them. Only Larry Robinson has a better team win-loss record then Lidstrom as a player. Hockey experts don't agree with you regarding your lucky comment by the way.

  • I agree I think Lidström is the second best that ever played on the D spot. Orr is of course first.

  • Imagine Bobby Orr playing for twenty plus years on two healthy knees! He would have really racked up the numbers, especially in the wide open early to mid 1980's. Even worse a robbery, Mike Bossy might have scored over 1,000 goals if he wasn't forced to retire at age 30 due to back injuries.

  • nah he would never score a 1000 goals. He had like 500 goals left to score when he retired. Almost all hockey players fade with time. If not injury would have taken Bossy he would have faded after 32 or so. But we'll never know. (This is why we need a "What if Machine" like in Futurama)

  • He had 573 actually. If he played another 10 years until he was forty he woud have needed to average 42.7 goals a season. That would have been the years 1987-88 through 1996-97 and those weren't exactly great defense years. There are surely some goal scores who have scored 427 goals from age 30-40.
