Since when has English been a latin dialect of German? English is descended mainly from Old Low German (as Dutch, Frisian) and has Norman (Nordic / French) and various Celtic influences. While I truly appreciate your statement, I doubt that Germany and Britain are similar. Not in the categories of better or worse, of course. But in matters of social welfare, distribution of wealth, religion, political institutions and culture there is a huge gap between our two nations.
It might very well be that Al Murray is actually a quite decent person and I do not want to judge on a personal level. But this still is humour on a destructive basis.

Most humour is on a destructive basis. It allows us to confront sensitive issues and demean them in such a way as to allow sensible discussion in the future.
Allowing people to laugh at the things that may trouble them is a kind of release.

In that, he was simply known as "Guv". But when the show came to an end, he decided to keep the character for stand up performances.

Since when has English been a latin dialect of German? English is descended mainly from Old Low German (as Dutch, Frisian) and has Norman (Nordic / French) and various Celtic influences. Influences, mind you; nothing more. As for Scotland, it's part of Great Britain, in the British Isles; as for Scotland being Celtic, so are the Irish and the Welsh - and the Cornish. @motorvating Nordic does not mean Germanic, the Celt's had a kingdom in Turkey that is mentioned in the bible, the parent language of Latin is Italics, and Italics closest relation is old Celtic. Races are subspecies, they are not just 3 of them. The Celt's were a loose confederation of similar peoples, and they are called Germanic as the Roman empire did not extend in to the region that was called Germany, so Germanic tribes to them meant barbarians, even though the Gaelic and Picts are Celtic.
