  • In all these well deserved kudos to Mr Hayward, perhaps a slight nod to the song's composer Don McLean. His original version was gorgeous as well as world popular.

  • truly, one of the greatest of our day, lead singers with his ability are rare enough, fewer still can equally play a great lead guitar at the same time

  • His is the rare voice that combines sensitivity, sincerity, and melancholy. A powerful mix. Just love his voice!

  • great version--beautifully done!!

  • Can anyone please tell me what year this was ? I just saw Justin recently , and like anything , he's aged considerably. But he still has his incredible voice ! What an incredible legacy Justin and the Moody Blues have left for the music world .

  • His voice is ENHANCED with orchestra, but he is truly a one of a kind when playing acoustic. I married with Moody blues music. My last pregnancy, a child unexpected, I listened to Blue Jays, solo album of Justin Hayward. It was a duel effort of Justin and John Lodge(also of the Moody Blues,-See Driftwood Promo video) John Lodge put together The Might Oak, his solo effort, with Justin and Grahm Nash drum & harmony. Grahm Nash put together a solo album (Kick Off Your Muddy Boots), also quite good.

  • I was disappointed with the Classic blue album. Sorry, it's not his singing it's the heavy orchestral background, the strings are bathetic and didn't work with his voice. I wish he had done this acoustically, just him and a guitar, that would have been great.

BTW This is an open note to Justin - PLEASE do a true acoustic lp. so many artists have done it so why not Justin? There were a few tracks on Capistrano Live but it wasn't enough, it's long long overdue.

  • Justin is a soothing balm; a beauty to behold; God bless you, Justin.

  • Great singer!

  • Justin Hayward ROCKS....talented..poetic....deep....the Moody Blues is one of my all time favorites.....He kissed your check?...haha....and you didn't wash your check again...ever?....lol...peace my friends....

  • I feel more emotion from this rendition than Don's

  • Wonderful voice, magnificent presentation. Perfect. I love this song. I love Vang Gogh.

Thank you very much for this wonderful gift for us.

  • This man, ever so gentle and sweet never ceases to amaze me! God bless you Justin. Long live the Moody Blues!

  • I never liked this song. Except by Justin. Anytime the oldies stations play it (by Don McLean) I turn it off...cos he is NOT Justin Hayward!

  • @AibaYokaze Justin does a beautiful job singing this. However I also love to hear Don McLean sing it as well. I'm a big Moody Blues fan and love Justin. But I don't think it's fair so put down Don McLean just because we love Justin. And being the gentleman Justin is I don't believe he wouldn't want any of his fans to down another singer.

  • @foreverjustinfan You have touched my heart despite the fact that we are total strangers, and will never meet. I love Justin and all the Moodys somethin fierce, and will do so, all the days of my life. But, Lori Lieberman's inspired "Killing Me Softly" was my first clue (in about 1972) that "...there was this young boy" named Don McLean who was a "smashin'" great singer/musician. Don's presentation of "Vincent" fairly staggered me in it's raw beauty. To see "Vincent" by Justin is Delight.

  • @elmerhdga

Truly talent and, make no mistake, great effort. We sit back and relax, but Justin is working hard. He loves to share his music with us.

    Paul

  • Justin's so talented and beautiful! Eye candy forever!!! Love you, Justin!

  • Guys like Justin come around, maybe, once in a lifetime. An absolutely dead solid perfect, professional musician. Talented, convincing singer. Gifted songwriter. Great band leader. He's stood the test of time. So have the Moody Blues.

  • Justin!! Still hot after all these years!! Man alive!! What a gorgeous voice !! I have always loved The Moody Blues!! A very talented band beyond measure but Justin was always my true favorite!! This was gorgeous indeed and i so enjoyed it!! Awe, Justin, you so touch my heart!! :)) <3

  • @twinklebear22 How beautiful he is!!And he always have this glorious voice;it's very touching!

  • You can tell that Justin is a sweet and sensitive man..... look at his face while he sings!!!!! His voice sends shivers down my spine. I saw The Moodies on June 30th @ Milwaukee's Summerfest, and they were fantastic!! It was an open stage and I got there HOURS before the show and ended up in the EIGHTH ROW!!!!! Love my Moodies forever , (((BIG SMILE)))

  • @truebluefan36 One of the few artists that you can tell is singing from his heart, hence my still feeling joy from The Moody Blues concert I saw over a year ago.

  • To the Vincent of my Heart - Rest in Peace. You were the GREATEST to my heart.

This video has inspired me to learn this song and sing it in memory of my loved one. Thanks

  • go Vincent! and thank you Justin

  • C'est une performance de faire mieux ou au moins aussi beau que Don McLean bien que différent... Bravo c'est merveilleux !

  • I only hope that Don McClean has seen this. I'm sure he would absolutely love it.

  • @thecarolinamudcat yeah but Don McClean owns "Vincent" , just like whn ppl try to sing "Feelings" by Albert Morris--it's no match. Loved this tho!!!

  • my favorite moody blues cd is seventh sojourn. the way justin sings new horizons it's just so smooth.

  • He has the most beautiful voice, equally matched by his guitar playing and writing talent. He is truly one of a kind.

  • @shelbyonehalf Couldn't agree more...simply the best!!

  • favorite singers.... David Gilmour "pink floyd", Justin Hayward, Mikael Akerfeldt "opeth", Greg Lake "elp and king crimson", and that sums it up.... why you may ask...

raw power, emotion, range, vocal and pitch control, and very original voices....

  • This scared the shit out of me my ex is name vincent and this song totaly goes to him

  • do not be afraid... My name is Vincent

  • He's a gentleman, a great singer, a rarity in these days...

  • actually he is the most manly man you could ever meet. A very kind and funny fellow.

  • His just amazing. Is there nothing this man can't sing and make it absolutely beautiful. Love his voice and him.

  • Forever a Justin Hayward AND Moody Blues fan!

  • That was beautiful. Justin is awesome.

  • Cojan cualquier disco de Julio Iglesias y otro de Moody Blues. La comparación no se resiste.

Ahora cojan la version de este tema del susodicho Iglesias y esta de Justin. Una prueba más de que la raza humana ha equivocado el camino...

  • I have never seen this video. Beautiful.

  • wow! one of my fav songs done by one of my fav singers too! awesome and beautiful!

  • What CAN'T this man do ??

  • Pure Class!!! God Bless you Justin!

  • What a voice. Perfect for this song.

  • someone with such a voice can also sing songs from other artists. Justin is a songwriter/ preformer (Moody blues and Blue Jays, war of the worlds ) who can sing almost everything with a beautiful voice.

Justin go on with doing your songs

    greating

    Ton

    Netherlands

  • I didn't know this version of Vincent. It's amazing! Thank you for posting and greetings from the Netherlands.

  • If you don't like this video then don't look at it. For me I love it and I will never change my mind. peace and love

  • I love Justin. His version of this song is stunning. Thanks for posting.

  • Justin Hayward is a true musical genuious.

  • Lovely tribute to a great Artist...

  • I´m also in love with this guy, I can´t wait to see him for the first time in October performig live!!!!! I´m lucky aren´t I!!!!!????

  • OMG

I haven't listened to this tape for a long time, I will get it out tomorrow, I will forever love Justin.

  • I'm Just(in) love with this this guy. And the Moodies of cource.(Wach his face+singing/words after 3 minutes+. Nobody could bring more wonderful emotion into the lyrics than young Mr. Hayward.) Was to their consert in Oslo just a while ago ('79 was it??). Also was in the Millenium/O2 at

December 22. to see Jeff Wayne's; The War of the Worlsd Live! (2007 was it?)

  • Justin you are in a class all by yourself....God gave you a talent which is unsurpassed in music.....Paul.

  • Weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath Justin Hayward's loving hand.... xoxo

  • Do your research and find out the album that this is from before you start spouting more garbage than an old power station.

  • Oh fuck off bluebird brain; you're not even old enough to have seen The Moody Blues back in their prime.

I don't need "research" asswipe, I've got ears and this song is kitsch in Justin's hands.

Although Don is not as good a singer he has just the right touch for this song. He wrote it and does it better than anyone. So much for your dumb ass whiney British voice.

  • And you know my age how?

By the way, when trying to make a point convincingly it really does help your cause to call the person you are discussing with childish names, doesn't it?

  • Ok, play games; you had it listed at your site and now you've removed it.

And your dumb ass metaphor about the power station; that's not childish? And you're absurd; trying to lecture those who know far more than yourself. A baby cries when someone calls his little dump a pile of crap.

  • Rexicano, you are clearly such a sophisticated person and such a credit to the point you are trying to make and the artist you are standing up for.

  • And you are too stupid to see the hypocrisy of a millionaire singing a song about a poverty stricken artist. Yup, it's So sophisticated to love crappy kitsch. Thanks for the run on sentence saying nothing.

  • I'm certain you would be surprised if you knew how old I am. I don't know who you are thinking of but I have never had my age on my profile. I don't have any information on my profile. Why should I? It's nobody's business other than those who I choose to give information to.

  • Well, nobodies perfect; maybe I got you confused with the other idiot here talking trash about Don. I'm going to guess you're Maggie Thatcher's age; because that's the age group I'd imagine would love this kind of easy listening approach to a simple ballad. And like her, maybe you're declining in mental abilities as well. "Cry, Baby, cry...make your mother sigh; you're old enough to know better?"

  • a) Why would I go around trashing Don McLean when he's an artist I quite like. However, I don't feel the need to detract from other artists in order to compliment those I do like.

    b) I'm guessing you must be younger than you are claiming to be judging by your idea of wit.

    c) I suggest you research the difference between "easy listening" and "orchestral".

  • Fair enough, that's your opinion but don't go around trying it to ram it down other people's throats as you are as unlikely to change their opinion as they are to change yours.

  • Hardly a twit asshole

  • wonderfull, soooooooo nice, thanks

  • I LOVE Justin Hayward! He has such a beautiful voice. The best singer/songwriter EVER. (^-^) No one sings this better than him. I'm 21 and I'm in LOVE with his music. (^-^)

  • He encontrado "Nights in White Satin" y "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" en español- y creo que Justin canta esas en español.

No somos tanta menoria.

  • @getetunet

Julio Iglesias no sabe cantar. No le llega ni a los talones a Mr. Hayward.

  • Justin´s voice is really fantastic, so smooth...and as jhmbfc says it can surely melt a girl´s heart. Even when the girl is 50..

  • Know what you mean, totally agree! This girl is 52 and he makes me weak at the knees.....always has! He's yummy.

  • lovely!

  • Beautiful, lovely song. I like the way they have put musicians with red hair in front, redheaded like Vincent van Gogh was himself, nice touch!

  • GREAT GREAT VIDEO! This man has the most beautiful voice!!!!! Thanks Moodiesfan!!!

  • I believe God said, "What are the most beautiful and pleasing gifts I can give to this world?" He said, "I'll give this world fields of blue wildflowers, and sunsets to set the sky ablaze with so many colors, and oceans that seem to go on forever, and mountains and trees, oh and for music I'll give many different songbirds, oh and also a singer/songwriter from England who shall be named Justin Hayward..."Peace

  • if i believed there was a god - for all my life i would believe for only ONE reason- he gave me JUSTIN

    HAYWARD

  • Hi lloyd63, He is a most beautiful soul...

  • Moodygal51

I believe there is a God and only HE could give us such beauty as Justin.

  • Love this song, thought only Don could do it justice, but I now know I am wrong. Justin sings this wonderfully, such a smooth flowing voice. Can't get enough. Bless you MoodiesFan,

  • He could sing anything to me.(sigh) I love you Justin!!! You are so gorgeous with a voice that melts a girls heart.

  • Moodygal51:

Ditto, jhmbfc! Loved him always, always will....

  • Hottest man alive! Beautiful voice! I met him at a CD signing. I kissed his cheek, he kissed mine too!

    Eat your hearts out girls!!!

  • You lucky girl, I would love to meet Justin Hayward. ;)

  • Hell, Im a guy, definately NOT gay, and I'm eatin my heart out! Lucky you. Yeah, twenty somethings into the old MB's. Perhaps life on planet earth is not doomed after all. My big sister turned me on to the Moodies in 1968. I was 12. Been with them ever since. My daughter loves them too. There is hope. Thanks for posting Justins Vincent.

    Upon the virgin snow...

  • @moodybluejaysgirl Yeah, it is encouriging to know there are SOME GOOD role models (and HOT! ) slober, melt...

  • @moodybluejaysgirl

    I hate you!

  • @moodybluejaysgirl *jealous* :D

  • Very Libran song....what a nice soul.

  • Big Moodies fan-but Don McLean's lyrics-he was inspired.

  • I still like Josh Groban's version of the song, but Justin's is beautiful as well. The man is amazing, even without the Moody Blues.

  • The most beautiful voice to ever draw breath.

  • Dear CandleLight, "The most beautiful voice to ever draw breath" So true, so eliquently phrased...

  • corny, sappy, violins, fleeting Van Goghs -- and absolutely beautiful. The best voice of a generation

  • very sweet, when I Sang this, i made the whole audience cry..a hundred..at 15 years old..everyone was in tears...what a great song.

  • One of my fav songs of all time, I really love this version of it.Frameless heads on nameless walls. It is better than the original and that was great. Jus really does it up great.

  • OMG! thank you Justin.

  • Do you happen to have "Railway Hotel"? I would DIE to see that - such a great song, i believe originally done by the Hollies, but even better by Justin/and/or the Moodies.

  • Railway Hotel was written by Mike Batt and originally recorded by him in 1980s. I don't know of the Hollies ever having covered it.

  • This man was MEANT to sing this song. I love Don McLean, but Justin makes this song better. Thanks for the great post. "por-traits"...great pronunciation!

  • That would be his feint Wiltshire accent.

  • Justin has such beautiful tone and clear enunciation. As a vocal coach once said "He can make a mediocre song good and a good song great". This is a great song to begin with, as beautifully sung as the original and the recorded version is even better.

  • very moving song ...brilliantly performed

  • I like the Moody Blues, but delmar's right, it's much better when DOn McLean does it.

  • Don MCLean's version is great but this one wipes the floor with it.

I hadn't seen this before. Thanks.

  • One great artist paying tribute to another. It is a marvelous rendition.

  • Oh,my - I'm melting.

  • Justin has the wonderful talent of making someone else's song sound better than the original.

  • Indeed he has. Very few singers can adequately convey the sentiment of their own lyrics. Justin has the ability to do this with somebody elses - 'Forever Autumn', 'Tregardock' and all the songs that this album is from, just as examples.

Simply one of the best voices that ever sang a note.

  • Oh,please - it's a beautiful song, no matter who does it. But look at this man! I am SOOOOOOOO in love. And unlike the green-ness of Josh, Justin gets the lyrics and the music. xxxxxxx

  • This guy is my hero!

  • the man have the voices god.thats all

  • This is the best version that I've heard.

  • This is absolutly wonderfull, its the best version i've heard so far

thanks for putting it up man

  • Your welcome thewho123, I think this is the best version of Vincent that I've heard.

  • I love the Moody Blues but Don McLean and Josh Groban both do this song much better.

  • Well, did not Don write this? Hard to believe that poster did not know who the Moody Blues are? Wow! Anything Justin does is great. It is hard to mess up this song, so much meaning and such a sad true story. Peace

  • Each to their own I suppose. I personally cannot stand either of those guys' voices. One of them is too weak and wimpy and the other is too over-bearing for my liking.

  • Everyone (except those who can't afford it or who the record company doesn't have the faith in to invest much money in their promotion) advertises on television.

I do agree with your point about "purported superstar" and record sales though. Actually, the 55 million is a very conservative estimate as, for legal reasons, only the bands' sales since 1978 can be officially quoted.

  • Really? Do you know why that is? I always thought 55 million seemed low.

  • I don't know the exact details (my mum's an industry lawyer and even she doesn't know) but when Universal bought out the band's contract, accountants' and lawyers' figures had for some artists did not tally with those held by the previous record company. The suspicion is that this was to reduce royalty payments but the papertrail was lost and without proof there's no case.

  • I'm off to find my Classic Blue CD. I think I need to hear it again. Josh Groban... Bah! The guy has to advertise his stuff on television. That speaks for itself. And yes, this is a quiet song, NOT a Verdi aria.

Don't we all find it funny that a "purported superstar" managed to sell over 55 million records with one of the most successful bands ever? Under a rock indeed.

  • Took a jaunt over to the iTunes store to listen briefly to Grobon's version. Just fine if OPERA is your cup of tea. I like both Justin's and Don Mclean's versions. I like Justin's version of Scarbrough Fair (from Classic Blue) better than Simon & Garfunkels.

  • "would-be Watson"..... LOL!!! .......... I take it you're referring the wonderful Russell.

  • Not heard this before. Very nice. I do prefer to hear Justin sing his own stuff though.

By the way (though I don't really want to spend more time than necessary on yet another would-be Watson), on the subject of Josh "don't compare me to reality TV stars" Groban, I have yet to hear him convey any emotion. His voice is devoid of light and shade, he only appears able to do volume convincingly. His total massacre of "You Raise Me Up" being a prime example.

Anyway, back to the real singers .....

  • The more I hear this, the more I'm beginning to appreciate the difference between Don McLean's version and Justin's. And I must chime in my support to the above three posts. JUSTIN is far superior to any young, "operatic" crooner. I'm waiting for Justin to sing his grocery list, since he did the Yellow Pages (LOL!) Even that would be better than Josh Groban...

  • He did sing the yellow pages in the intro to higher and higher but it was covered up by the mellotron.

  • Great version of a great song. Justin Hayward could sing the Yellow Pages.

trupadotcom, thanks for the best laugh I've had in a long time.

  • Yes, that's right, trupadotcom. Why don't you compare a legend like Justin Hayward to a wannabe? Josh Groban destroys this sensitive song with his foghorn of a voice.

  • Legend!? I guess I've been living under a rock. I only came across this purported superstar by looking for Hayward, California. Maybe you guys find him attractive, but he's not my type.

  • May I suggest that that rock isn't even on this planet?

  • You don't think Justin Hayward is attractive? Maybe that's because he isn't attractive. He's drop dead gorgeous.

  • Yes he is drop dead gorgeous and so talented he is blessed :)

  • Yes, you probably have been living under a rock. It's clearly affected your eyesight, hearing and memory. Go and get checked out asap.

  • Listening to this anemic version of Vincent after hearing Josh Groban REALLY sing it, makes me embarrassed for this guy. This guy is walking through it. He can't even hold a note!

  • trupadotcom,

I put this clip up for Moody Blues and Justin Hayward fans. If you think that this Josh Groban person sings it better go listen to him.

  • Justin has the voice of the lead in a choir of angels. Josh Groban has all the vocal dexterity and subtlety of a round of artillery fire.

Please don't try to tell me Groban can sing anything this heartfelt. He's not even capable of making a halfway decent attempt and ends up butchering any beautiful song in the same way he slaughtered "You Raise Me Up".

Justin has the unusual ability to convey anyone's lyric as convincingly as he does his own.

  • Jeeez, beautiful song but I can't stand Don McLean's whiney voice. This is a lovely version. Shame it's not in full.

  • Beautiful!

  • Now, I like Justin Hayward a LOT, and I have always like Don McLean. In fact I saw Don McLean two months before I first saw the Moody Blues a gazillion years ago. BUT.... this twain should never have met. LOL! Only Don McLean should be singing this, although Justin is much cuter.

  • UU2; You Got that right!
