Really? I've a Swiss friend who rolls her Rs when speaking German. Granted she has lived here since she was 14, but that's only 7 years. And I know Swiss German is different, but it's like Scots and English. Not very different.

I sometimes roll my Rs when I speak German. It is a second language, but I do try to get the pronunciation right. It really depends on the word for me. Like I'll roll it in 'Freitag' or 'Frankreich', but not in 'Fehler' or 'Vater'.

But I never roll the "r" (I live in the north east...)

yeah, I'm from Baden. That's in the southwest of Germany. The Bavarians roll the r sometimes, but no one here rolls the r when they speak standart german. the rolled r is typical for dialects.

I personally (being a scot) love the scots accent, Although a live in the Ayrshire(south west of scotland). Around Glasgow we have a more "slang" accent which no many people could understand withoot thinkin too hard.
