Movie one is better. In this everything is going perfect and in her way, which is to unrealistic. She never even takes a punch, in the movie River gets punched, things arn't going perfect, thus more realist and better.
This fight scene is more brutal, more gritty in some way than was Summer's. This one is more like a scene from Watchmen. I can see the younger Silk Spectre fighting like this. :)

A video like this (I would guess) comes early in the production process to help the stunt team and the fight coordinator conceptualize a fight scene. Things are bound to change between rehearsal and training, between training and shooting, and between shooting and editing.
Pretty sure they changed the scene because Summer Glau couldn't physically do half of this stuff. I'm content with the movie version though, even if I would have loved to see this.
She's a ballerina IRL, of course she could do all this stuff. Maybe even better than the stunt people themselves. I think they just changed the style they wanted.

Awesome moves, but since this is for a story, the Summer Glau version is better....more believable, since she isn't a technical soldier by trade. There's more awe to the moves when it's done like a dance by a girl who LOOKS like she couldn't lift a carjack. :)
Great fighter, cool scene - but it wouldn't work for River. River is a lithe, ethereal girl who was a talented dancer before they put theoretical fighting skills and a killer instinct in her head - which is why her "ballet-like" fightingstyle both makes sense and is esthetically pleasing.
Summer Glau does the best "dancer fakes fighting" I've seen, most of the time actors/dancers are pretty useless at this. :)

Its a stunt rehearsal for the bar fight in Serenity. As im sure you understand, nailing down that much fighting takes a long time. Summer Glau trained for 3 months before the shooting on the film started in order to do the fight scenes herself.
@CSXer - this is the stunt rehearsal - it's where they work out where to put the cameras, where the girl gotta go faster, whether the girl with the big insurance is going to break a nail (or a finger) - all essential stuff.
I think that version was better than the one in the movie. This woman was more crisp in her movements, made everything seem more real. Summer Glau is awesome, but she moves TOO beautifully.
I don't think River is physically trained in combat. The Alliance only programmed the skills in her brain, so I don't thinks she's suppose to look like an MMA fighter.
I do agree that this version is better, but I'm fine with the movie version with Summer =) I love how she makes it look so effortless and ballet-like.
@M3devac Well Summer was a ballerina before she ever acted, all the stunts she did, she did on her own. Like in the scene where she was escaping in the very begginging and she was hidden on the ceiling, she did that in her own.

@Makai1191 The point is to move beautifully. Fighting was more or less natural to River, because she wasn't trained in any way. What comes naturally, usually comes gracefully also. So it's supposed to appear like she's using ballet to kick someone's ass. The stunt woman's moves ARE crisp which defeats the whole purpose of River's fight scene. They even said in the behind the scenes video that the purpose was to appear graceful. :|
This is so awesome. I love watching how fighting scenes are made. A lot of times they are better than the movie version because they have less crazy editing.

The thing is, you also have to get reactions in, from Mal & Jayne apart from all else. It's an awesome fight scene, but the plot has to be more important than it, or it's a kind of pointless, awesome fight scene.
maybe because deep down inside she was fighting the programming that made her go berserk, and was controlling the power of the attacks... who knows...
Like the bit where the guy runs past her, she turns, grabs by the scruff of the neck and slams into the floor. Not entirely sure how they do it (wires?) but the speed and impact make it look insane.
She's pretty good and she's a wicked fighter, but I think that Summer moves a little more gracefully.
Bridget is more power with a thicker and larger body. Summer is very fluid and ballet-like in her movements, and she's also just a tiny little rip-cord of a girl.

@CSXer - this is the stunt rehearsal - it's where they work out where to put the cameras, where the girl gotta go faster, whether the girl with the big insurance is going to break a nail (or a finger) - all essential stuff.

I think that version was better than the one in the movie. This woman was more crisp in her movements, made everything seem more real. Summer Glau is awesome, but she moves TOO beautifully.

I don't think River is physically trained in combat. The Alliance only programmed the skills in her brain, so I don't thinks she's suppose to look like an MMA fighter.
I do agree that this version is better, but I'm fine with the movie version with Summer =) I love how she makes it look so effortless and ballet-like.

@M3devac Well Summer was a ballerina before she ever acted, all the stunts she did, she did on her own. Like in the scene where she was escaping in the very begginging and she was hidden on the ceiling, she did that in her own.

@Makai1191 The point is to move beautifully. Fighting was more or less natural to River, because she wasn't trained in any way. What comes naturally, usually comes gracefully also. So it's supposed to appear like she's using ballet to kick someone's ass. The stunt woman's moves ARE crisp which defeats the whole purpose of River's fight scene. They even said in the behind the scenes video that the purpose was to appear graceful. :|

This is so awesome. I love watching how fighting scenes are made. A lot of times they are better than the movie version because they have less crazy editing.

wow, that was a hell of a rehersal, so summer did none of the fighting? was it all cutaways to her face, mining the moves, or what? either way a great scene i wish they coul;d have kept the cut parts in the guys comming down the stairs trying to attack her, one get getting his knife in this hand, and getting the gun from that other guy... the two under the tables...

The thing is, you also have to get reactions in, from Mal & Jayne apart from all else. It's an awesome fight scene, but the plot has to be more important than it, or it's a kind of pointless, awesome fight scene.

Like the bit where the guy runs past her, she turns, grabs by the scruff of the neck and slams into the floor. Not entirely sure how they do it (wires?) but the speed and impact make it look insane.

She's pretty good and she's a wicked fighter, but I think that Summer moves a little more gracefully.
Bridget is more power with a thicker and larger body. Summer is very fluid and ballet-like in her movements, and she's also just a tiny little rip-cord of a girl.
Both are amazing though.
