WOW This really surprised me tbh. Sounds really nice, perfect for practice or for having a booze fuelled blues jam with a few friends into the wee hours of the morning.
Over the past 5yrs, I've developed a collection of these small heads. This one really surprised me. It's very simply made & think that's part of the charm. It's cheap & sounds pretty good. I have the head version. Connected to a 2x12 or 2x10 cab, it really sounds nice for gritty in between tones.
@bbnatedogg lol Sure, but for the money, this amp really isn't bad. I gig with different (perhaps 'better') amps, but if you've only got $75 to spend on an amp, which is true for some people and has been true for me in the past, get a Valve Junior. :)
@Passenger95 My gigs are back porch blues jams. My amp: Valve Junior Combo, stock except for a new jack to rid it of that annoying noise, and a new speaker. That and an overdrive pedal. Thats it- and it keeps up with everything. "Better Amp" I believe is a matter of opinion and your individual needs.
@bbnatedogg Dude I have a valve jr. and use it for practice with my band. I play harmonica and everyone knows the valve jr. kick some serious ass with that instrument. My buddies in the band always want to plug into my epiphone so it isn't that bad of a amp. They have been playing For 30 plus years man!! Great little PRACTICE amp check it out.
@dougmanification I never said that it is horrible. My comment was meant to be a joke but, if I was after a great tone I would get better than an epi jr. I would rather have a Peavey Vypyr 15 for 99 $ if it was just to practice with. Not quite as good as a tone probably but, has many more options and if it is just for practice the tone doesn't have to be amazing.
Hey Karl! I've been looking into getting one of these via your recommendation, looking at getting the head and a cab for less "boxiness" and to run my rig in stereo for the clean stuff. Just wondering a few things: What cab would you recommend? What do you use your VJ for? Your other amp is obviously MUCH louder so how do you use it, and coordinate volumes as well? Anything else I should think about before buying? Cheers!
@Botdra Try RAWoods for cabinets, and put a Weber in there. And I run pads through this one, which also go direct, so the volume isn't too much of an issue. :)
@userboy6 That's swells using a volume pedal, into a rhythmic delay, a long-set digital delay, and then into a Behringer RV600 for the octave up reverb. :-)
i got one of these amps. a good reverb(Hermida)and a good OD pedal(Eternity Fuse) and the sound is awesome. sure it sounds small and "boxy" but that's what it is- a small box! killer tone though!
