@SweetT79 To be punctilious about the whole thing it would be 'tcha' (which also moved onto being 'chai'). A certain region of Japan pronounced it 'te' which through trading with the Dutch found it's way into being the 'tea' that is known across the West today.
Being a British based advert the irony is that an man of Asian ethnicity in London is asking for a 'cup of char' instead of 'hee tcha' due to his non-rhotic pronunciation .
The humour is in the detail, intended or otherwise. Geddit?
I love the music at the end of the ad. Don't get me wrong, I love the ad altogether, although I don't really remember much of it as at the time, I was only 4 :$. *sighs* But those were the days, and the ads for Macci D's was soooooooo much better.
The one from Grange Hill is the lady who wants Chicken McNuggets, cant remember who she plays though in Grange Hill, but love this advert and remember it! I think the lady with the baby is cruel to make him cry!

Oh I remember this advert. Can't believe it was that long ago - certainly more inspiring than the insipid "lovin' it" stuff.

Any views on the location? Clearly London (red Routemaster) - I think it might be somewhere south of the river, e.g. Camberwell.
