He used a lot of large muscle movement of the elbow and shoulder jerky movements rather than small muscles of the hands. That makes the sound different!
Saw Igor Presnyakov recently post a segment of moonlight sonata, amazing. But, I don't know if it can compare with the raw feeling of this interpretation. Either way, great piece:)
this is perfect....its not too fast or anything like that...its a matter of interpretation. This was his interpretation of the song and it was perfect
Really shows me the beauty of the guitar... but also it's limitations.
The guitar has to share all notes between six strings, where a piano has a string for each note. Makes life a lot easier when holding phrases and including expression.
I had the pleasure of attending an Eric Henderson concert back in 2000 or 2001. It was an intimate affair at a small neighborhood church in Venice, CA. He played songs from his then new CD
"Castilian Nights." It was a truly magical evening. When he played the song "Grace" I was literally moved to tears, it was so beautiful. Even now, when I listen to the CD on my iPod I am taken back to his performance that night. Truly wonderful!!
i was just wondering if you could email me the sheet music for this piece or tell me where i can get as i think this would be perfect for me to play in my exam .
This is the best interpretation of Moonlight Sonata on the planet that I know of. Just listen to other interpretations here on YouTube and you will agree. I would like to here Christopher Parkening, the perfectionist (with much admiration and respect) perform this piece. Well done, Mr. Eric Henderson. I will be studying this piece... ;-)
Eric you play that very wonderfully. Moonlight sonata is one of my favourite piece Beethoven wrote. I first heard my father play it on piano and I bought the sheet music to play on guitar. Tuning the e string down to d. It just go's to show what a contribution Beethoven gave to the human kind.
@el1ex very good points (although more and more lassical guitars have cutaways) - can I just add that classical guitars tend to have flatter fretboards and more often than not do not have fret markers. Also, the headstock and bridge on classical guitars are markedly different from "acoustic" guitars. Steel strung guitars tend to have "pegs" or "pins" in the bridge to hold the string in place - classical guitars rely upon a unique "threading" technique to tie the strings in place.
@SergeiTheAnarch i think you mean whats the difference between a Nylon string guitar and a Steel string guitar. for the answer, im sure you can look it up now...
The best guitar-version I've ever heard. Besides the fact that, in my opinion, "Für Elise" is the most beautiful song, composed by Beethoven, this version of "Mondscheinsonate" is much more contemplatively...
I love the way Henderson explained the intention of this sonata by simply playing it with emotions. It's not only a technical convertion - it's a touching masterpiece.
and who says germans are not romatic. Beethoven, Bach, Schubert, Liszt etc. All German. And don't forget the most famous composer at the moment is also a German, Hans Zimmer, someone Hollywood cant do without.!!!
@Magicstrings6 Beethoven would be thrilled to know some1 a couple hundred years ahead is playing his music for thousands to hear. I think for a classical guitar piece it is played PERFECTLY
It contains a very good tab of this song. Click on "file" the on "open example" then choose this song. You can listen to it and you can print it. Hope this helps you :)
