Eye movement therapies are really neat. I have had some, and found it very helpful in entering hypnotic states of mind (like meditation), and bypassing left brain interference.
Bravo! Admitting our own weaknesses, getting help and ultimately face and crush our inner demons is what makes us human. Sharing this may help other people. You are indeed generous T-Man. I wish you all the best.
I think if I sat through the EMDR, I'd spend much of the session feeling a bit silly, and then have a panic attack on the way home that it wasn't working (normally they hit just when I'm trying to go to sleep when I start thinking of work). My wife however (who also suffers from depression) was nodding in agreement through as you described the process. It does sound interesting, and I hope it works for you -- keep us posted!
Sounds like a good therapist. I'm on Citalopram for anxiety and depression, and it keeps me from going down into the suicidal dumps. The down side is that everything becomes very flat, but that's far better than wanting to put a gun to my head.
I feel I can relate. :( I might consider this treatment if you have continued success with it, but as far as things are right now, I've never heard of it until you mentioned it.
I've never heard about this type of treatment. But it's a fascinating topic. Thank you for sharing such a personal thing. I hope it continues to work for you!
It's great that the therapy is helping you! It sounds like a solid approach and I'm pretty sure it will help you deal with other traumatic memories as well.
I don't think it would work on me because my main problem is not related to past experiences as much as my self-image and my neurotic way of processing information and impressions. Medication seems to help, but with side effects and not 100% reliably.
I appreciate you sharing this. I found it interesting for a couple of reasons; one I am studying Psychology. Secondly, and most importantly, my wife has struggled with depression and anxiety for most of her life. Now being aware of this, I can do some research and maybe see if this can help her as well.
I have heard about this but had not heard a testimonial. Thanks for talking about it, maybe it will come in handy sometime in my future.

its amazing how events from the past haunt the future i allways say to myself that was then this is now and ignore the situation in my head

Sounds interesting. It sounds like the process crowds out a prior bad visualization with a new neutral one. Cool.

@SkallagrimNilsson You still might benefit from more traditional CBT though.
