LOL, your wrong. I built these cars and KNOW what they can and cant do. The ZR1 is an amazing car. But its over priced and the GT-500 can beat it at half the investment.

The Camaro.. and even after it took them THAT LONG to produce that car the mustang in EVERY CATAGORY from the 6 cyl up beats all of them. The ZR1 Vette for 100k? Naw ill take the GT500 for 45k throw 20k at the car $65k total investment and DOMINATE the ZR1. Chevy makes nice trucks and i respect that they paid the money the barrowed back. But Ford kills Chevy in the real world. All day long.

Note that all of these cars have carbon fiber components, unlike the GT500. Hands down, ZR1 would wreck a GT500, mods or not.

You are too cought up in the video game / magazine world. They know nothing about the Mod's avalible for the ford cars. The GT-500 +20k = ZR1 loss. period. I have beat ford GT's and calloways top end vettes in both my Saleen and my 2003 Cobra. Both are very much modified and both are also street legal.

Auto transmisson swap turbo swap stock motor 5 second car. There is no 8 second ZR1. Now to switch it up i lose the auto transmission and focus on the suspension and i beat it there too for 40k less.
@tranzitms A few comments below I mentioned that the GT500 would in fact be able to keep up with the ZR1 in a straight line. Live axles are made to do that. Mustangs are made to do that. But that's not what I've been arguing...

I've been more than impressed with Ford lately. GM's been gone quite awhile now and all those great Japanese manufacturers are losing ground fast to Korean cars. Meanwhile Ford consistently produces great vehicles that customers want and quality doesn't suffer.
@platinumcurry - is reading not you're thing? The GT500 isn't 4000 lbs for one. For the appropriate comparison in the Chevy lineup is the Camaro- not the ZR1. And as others have mentioned it takes very little to get a GT500 to beat a ZR1 - that's not to say the ZR1 is a bad car because it's not. But the GT500 IS in fact a much more well rounded and functional car. But to each their own- if you like Cheby's good on you- I'll stick with Ford. Better cars and MUCH better run company FTMFW \m/
To all the ford haters: there's not one car company that doesn't make defective products. So to say that ford makes shit is hypocritical cause I have owned gm and ford and have had problems with both. And my ford actually turned out to be way more reliable than any other vehicle. Ford hit the financial wall a couple of years ahead of GM and Chrysler (before the economic bust), and levied its assets to the hilt to stay afloat. It was a risky move, but it kept them from filing for governement protection like GM and Chrysler did. You can't fault them for that....no matter how GM biased you might be.

Those who bemoan Ford really haven't been looking at the overall picture. Their vehicles have been highly rated in the last few yrs and the fact that they fixed their own probs instead of taking government buyouts should merit some respect from the haters.
Yeah I remember they weren't doing the greatest but actually refused a government buy out/bankruptcy and went on to fix things with hard work instead of hand outs.

@tranzitms I doubt very much that a GT500 with 20k thrown at it will be competitive with a ZR1, in anything other than a straight line.
The ZR1 is based on a dedicated sports car's platform: The Corvette.
The Mustang GT500, while badass, has to conform to the limitations of a 20,000 dollar platform for an economy muscle car (not sports car).
A better example would have been the Ford GT, which is a glorious sex machine.
