  • groucho ran game on her without even trying.

  • How the hell could anyone dislike this?

  • The Marx bros. never got better than Duck Soup...the gags and one-liners never stopped...in most of their movies there were "dry scenes" used to develop plots and unfunny characters that no one even cared about....this was mainly true during their later MGM movies. They were at their best when unleashed, and a flimsy plot was used just to keep their gags in order.

  • gotta love Groucho, does nothing but insult people and act like an idiot and yet everyone implicitly trusts him in high power jobs...

  • Groucho you are great!

  • "Not that I care, but where is your husband?"

    "Why he's dead"

"I bent he's using that as a excuse"

    HA HA funny!

  • @NightBeast12 "i was with him until the very end"

"well, no wonder he passed away"

"i held him in my arms, and kissed him"

"well, i guess it was murder"

    perfect.

  • i cant stay. thats a greater honor

  • ambassador trentino should have taken a card...

  • Not only do I love the Marx Brothers, but I think Margaret Dumont is funny too.

  • I'm 13, and this has made me laugh harder than Disney's and Nick's comedies Combined.

  • @knifepony Right on :-)

  • how does that lady not LAUGH!?!

  • @juliaw4 because that lady was also very serious in real life, and she didnt get most of their jokes. (true story)

  • I make skits that are chock-full of puns and one-liners, please take a look and let me know what you think! I'm a huge fan of The Marx Brothers and want to reach out to an audience who likes that sense of humor

  • 3:35 he just starts dancing for no reason lol

  • Everytime I watch Duck Soup, I pick up something new. Groucho is quick.

  • haha

  • I was only about 13 or so when my dad showed me Duck Soup for the first time. This is the greatest comedy ever made for its time. Groucho was extremely funny and had such a wit. I only hope to be a fraction of the man he was.

  • @rudy117041 still is the greatest commedy!

  • Groucho's dance at 2:50.

    Best. Dance. Ever.

  • Can't she see what he's trying to tell her? He loves her!

  • you can leave in a huff..if you don't like it, you can leave in a minute and a huff... CLEAN CLASSIC!

  • I can't decide if I prefer "Here's one I picked up in a dancehall. Here's another one I picked up in a dancehall." or "Well, a gal a day is enough for me. I don't think I could handle any more."

  • Whoever does a talented and dynamic Sparta Remix of this movie gets my first born child.

  • @StephenRCollins i know, thats the problem... if you try to do this in the real world you always end up looking like an idiot

  • take a card lol

  • hello from Ireland its minus 2 and the council are paintings road.

They must have fast drying paint mmmm.

  • i was wondering and this isnt to be mean, did groucho have a lazy eye? ive been wondering that for awhile.

  • @CharlieChaplinsAngel No, it's his other eye who works too hard....^^

  • Groucho was said to be horse-hung!

  • Groucho Marx was a comedic genuis!!!!!!!!! If you're in a bad mood, watch this movie.

  • Anyone who rates this down is a Sylvanian

  • Hi fellow MB freaks! I invite you to enjoy my new master class on the music of Chico and Harpo. Free, hilarious, and very educational! Type in "Dave Frank" Marx on Youtube.

  • Sorry, quote 2 should be "On second thought, I'd rather dance with the cows until you come home." Thanks to those who pointed out my late-night error !

  • Groucho has the most epic stache in the history of the movies!

  • I still think Margaret Dumont was a hottie...

  • I'm on a lifelong search for the situation in which I can say "I bet he's just using that as an excuse" when told someone's husband has died.

  • @StephenRCollins Just hang around outside the morgue!

  • I'm still looking for the opportunity to use the "I'll bet he's just using this as an excuse" line when someone tells me their husband has died.

  • @StephenRCollins It doesn't work as well in the real world, sadly.

  • "Here's another one I picked up off the dancefloor!" That was always my favourite line from the film, yet nobody else seems to remember it.

  • everytime i hear groucho's song, i think of george w bush singing it. i think that song really sum's up "dub-ya's" presidency.

  • I sing about the Marx Brothers in The Celebrity Song.

  • the funniest human ever

  • Margaret Dumont Fan page on facebook now

  • I love how he starts playing hopscotch for no apparant reason.

  • Dumont-"I want you to meet a very charming lady".

    Groucho-'And it's about time!".

It's possible to be funny without vulgarity!

  • Margaret Dumont was usually the punchline for Groucho's hilarious jokes.

  • never thought the marx brothers were

a scream. not roflmao funny but its

dry humor. the wit is brilliant from the

refined slaptick to puns to daring satire disguised as goofiness. the horselaughs

from jokes are great. then the joke is old.

but the movie scenes you want to see again. they dont get old. they grow on you.

the marx brothers are the thinking man's

three stooges. groucho especially is not

so much funny as fun. enjoying himself.

  • this has stood the test of time. still funny as hell!

  • The actress is Margaret Dumont. She was quite good and in several Marx Brother's movies.

  • This is one of my favorite scenes with Groucho.

  • Thank you for making this available. The Marx Brothers were my favorite Actors in Comedy films. In Laughter Therapy, These Were The Best. The wit is outstanding. And you never heard a curse word.

  • Well, a Gal a day is enough for me. I don't think I could handle any more!

  • Never mind that stuff, take a card. You can keep it, I've got 51 left. Hahaha! I'm gonna try that one tomorrow.

  • hail hail freedonia

  • Simply the best ever!

  • Marx brothers kick so much ass.

  • The Marx Brothers, Just So Ahead Of Their Time :)

  • I had the pleasure of playing Margaret Dumont's role onstage for the first time as Gloria Teasdale and it was quite an experience!!! We had wonderful actors that played all four of the Marx Brothers...I think they all would have been very proud!

  • GROUCHO IS THE GOD OF COMEDY!

  • lmao how late you stay open.. lol perverted mine i must have lol.. no but most respect for the marx's bros.

  • And the dialogue is still so MODERN!

    Groucho's wit does not age.

  • Hey marcel Just because it isn't riddled with "jokes" about knicker knockers and farts like English "humor" I still enjoy watching it time and time again.

  • Lol

  • Hey hey hey!! Lay off the English!! Modern-day American humour is just as bad!!

(And this is coming from someone who is ashamed of how humour has 'evolved'... more like 'devolved'...)

  • @MichaelKingsfordGray You're so right. It's some of the tightest comedy dialogue ever written. It mixes wordplay, setup/punch, monologue, it's all just brilliant. It ages so beautifully (except the phonograph needle!) I also love his mugging for the camera. I'll stop gushing now, I just love Groucho

  • "Will you marry me?"

    "Oh, your excelency..."

"You are not so bad yourself."

"Your excelency, haven't we seen eachother somewhere before?"

"I don't think so. I'm not sure I'm seeing you now, it must be something I ate."

  • Well a gal a day is enough for me

  • "I held him in my arms and kissed him".

"Oh I see then,it was murder."

One of the all time classic lines.

  • Promise me you will follow the footsteps of my husband.

HOW DA LIKE THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ON THE JOB 5 MINUTES AND ALREADY SHE'S MAKING ADVANCES TO ME

  • i read somewhere that most of the time margaret dumont didnt get any of the jokes she was setting up

  • I just read the same thing in the book Hello, I Must be Going by Charlotte Chandler. I would suggest it to you if you like Groucho Marx. :)

  • The best one liner is Groucho!

  • "Where's your husband"?

    " Why, he's dead"

"I'll bet he's just using that as an excuse".

    Great line from Groucho

  • Two immortal lines in one clip :

    1. "Will you marry me ? Did he leave you any money ? Answer the second question first." and

    2. "I could dance with you until the cows come home. On second thought, I'd rather dance with you until the cows come home."

How wonderful, how marvellous ! Groucho was truly a giant of classic comedy.

  • you mean:

    2. "on seccond thoughts i'd rather dance witht he cows til you come home!

  • edinburgh: Or how about:

"You better beat it. I hear they're gonna tear you down and put up an office building where you're standing."

    OR

"You know you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must've been vaccinated with a phonograph needle."

  • @edinburghmike Hem... Of course, you meant: ..."dance with the cows until you come home".

I'm going back to the closet, where men... are empty overcoats.

  • @ARadicalAliensNoun You'd be better off in the garden where men are just pansies

  • @edinburghmike its "id rather dance with the cows until you come home.

  • @edinburghmike ''on second thought I'd rather dance with the cows 'till you came home'', lol

  • @edinburghmike The second was actually "I could dance with you until the cows come home. On second thought, I'd rather dance with the cows until you come home."

  • @edinburghmike.......... "I could dance with you until the cows come home. On second thought i'd rather dance with the cows till you come home"..........subtle difference.

  • @edinburghmike on second though, I'd rather dance with the cows until you come home! :D

  • @edinburghmike -I know, isn't that the FUNNIEST LINE EVER? He could get by with ANYTHING!

  • @edinburghmike dance with the cows till you came home.

  • Awesome ^_^ I wish the clip was longer

  • "if thats too soon, you can leave in 'a minute and a huff'" XD Legendary

  • Long live the great Groucho.

  • LMAO! @ this whole scene

  • my favorite scene
