ok... i wanted to correct all that this guy got wrong, but youtube only gives me 500 characters, and I dont have all night. What I can say is he is wrong on virtually every point he made, and if everyone would take the time to research and think about matters logically, and not through their own lense of the majority, you would see why his position is ridiculous, and on matters of fact, incorrect.
He said "do we want a society where we can discuss all subjects but not god, jesus, yahweh, budda, or muhammed. Now granted some areas are more tolerant than others, but what do you suppose would happen if some muslim kid came to his class and for his hero assignment started speaking the glories of allah and muhammed his prophet and gave his classmates a hand out to take home? Im sure the christian parents would all say, "well isnt that sweet, what a nice little boy."
in his example of the kid choosing jesus as his hero... first, and I virtually guarantee this to be the case... the assignment was to pick a real life hero, a hero that unquestionably existed and furthermore verifiable did certain actions that make him a hero (otherwise the kids would all come as spiderman or wolverine). Im sorry, but in this case coming as jesus is unacceptable, jesus' life/deeds are a matter of faith, to present them as factual is misleading to other children, very clear cut.
ok... first he said that god has become the new 4 letter word... I said to myself... its only 3 letters, give him a break he was just relating the 2. but then not even 10 sec latter he says that kids cant talk about god, they can say other 4 letters words but not god. I can no longer trust him to be an expert or an intellectual on any subject as the guy clearly does not know that god is a three letter word
why should it matter if someone is offended? no one has ever died of being offended! just be offended! i dont believe in god at all but im not offended by those who do!
Kids can talk about Jesus all they want, or Muhammed, or whoever. They can read bibles during free time if they want. Teachers just can't teach religion or promote one above the other.
What, I wonder, would these evangelicals like to see in public school classrooms? The free speech is already there.
However, Chris Pinto would completely disagree with this guy....many of our founders were deists that despised Christianity...look to the Treaty of Tripoli
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.
All the atheists and satanists out there should be jumping for joy, the world is converting to your religions....
I guarantee this new motto is coming, don't you like the "change" your getting....too bad, worship satan or die!
Years ago there WAS prayer in public schools. They had to say the Lord's Prayer every morning, or else they went to the principle. And guess what that did? NOTHING! There are still Atheists, Hindus, and Muslims in America today. What is the point then? Why are you so agro that your kid isn't getting taught about Jesus in school? Isn't that the parents' job? What happened to PARENTS anyway? Are they outdated like VCRs? Teach your own damn kid about Jesus.
I think people should be allowed to talk about their religion in public, including schools. What I think should not be allowed is preaching and trying to convert people in schools. If im sending my kid to a public school and he is forced to read about Christian creationism as though it were fact in text books or forced to attend religious assemblies meant to convert people, thats where I have a problem. Im fine with a kid doing a paragraph on Jesus as long as he doesnt try to convert people.
I have no problem with a secularized government, but when it becomes FANATICALLY secularized to the point that they try to force kids what non-religion (or other religion) to believe, it's time to bitch-slap these assholes down.
For example: The utter stupids like to quote one itty-bitty piece of the 1st Amendment for their phantom establishment clause. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment respecting an establishment of religion"
It's funny that God is not a four letter word. Hm... I wish he said three because than I might have actually listened to the rest. Now he just seems so unintelligent in my book.
The reason religion NEEDS to be seporate from school because schools can't serve as spawning grounds for religious beliefs. It is not about taking away anything, but rather allowing people who do not want their kids to be told about the "hero" Jesus, who saved their kids. I don't believe in religion, I would probabely have to take my kid out of public school if I thought my kids would have to fit into a christian view of their peers.
What kinds of public schools are you talking about? Ive been to public schools and students are saying Oh my God almost every second. Let's just say you can talk about God and not be punished in any schools.
@RogerWazup I couldn't agree with you more. Children should not have to be forced into these structured systems of what to believe and I personally feel that children need to be exposed to different cultures in our world, not just the more common ones in our country. no one should be forced to take part in something that they don't believe in or feel that they're being told what to believe. let kids free their minds for religion in school is an option to the child not a school law.
Also, to avoid confusion, when I say that I believe in separation of the two, I mean that teachers should not promote any particular views but instead encourage students to find their own answers. If religion is taught, it should be unbiased and include all major views including Protestantism, Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, atheism, etc. However, teaching is one thing; class prayer is another. Students should not be required OR expected to participate in any religious activity.
I'm atheist, and I don't feel that schools should be "atheistic" or anything, rather that there should be a separation of church and state, of religion and public institutions. Children have the right to talk about religion, but the reason why it's taboo if at all is because the TEACHERS risk losing their jobs if they even say what they believe if anything. But I strongly believe in freedom of religion. People should have the right to be whatever they want if any including minority options.
the problem is not talking about subjects. its that kids believe in anything an adult with a strong status in their life talk about. hence, religion. wait till they are 18+
yeah, then some other kid dressing up like Muhammad and next you a have a little JIhad between students in the classroom or a kid dresses up like satan because that mythical creature is that kid's hero and his parents get a knock on their door from child protective services.
until people learn that there are many "one true god" in the world, and you can't prove that yours is real...it's best to keep it out of the public schools.
Sounds like the teachers involved were misinformed. The only religious thing banned from school was MANDATORY prayer, which I agree with. There's nothing wrong with a kid dressing up as Jesus as long as he wasn't doing it against his own beliefs and any other kid wanting to dress as other religious figures are allowed to do the same.
Religion clubs are also still allowed as long as it's voluntary and all religions get the same privilege. Only mandatory religion was banned.
When I grew up Christianity was taught in school. Whilst I am not aligned with any religion I did as a child benefit from the religious input
Banning religion from school seems these days seems to exclude teaching around morals or care & consideration of others on a regular basis. Is it no wonder we are creating a society that treats people as commodities & is breeding extreme narcissism?
I totally agree with this man, we will end up with a society that respects no-one
@explorer2101 Nonsense. Morality and consideration are NOT realms of the religious upbringing. We are not "creating a society that treats people as commodities" by excluding religious influence from schooling. This sort of "creation" requires an entire social shift, beyond a simple religious difference or lacking. Its commonly claimed religion=morality, but I've found the exact opposite. More crimes take place in religious states, cities, counties, etc than happen in less religious ones.
@explorer2101 Also, talking about "respect," how is influencing Christianity in our public and *mandatory* school system respecting anyone who isn't Christian? Christians are the majority, so that means the mob majority should be able to institute religious educational demands above other peoples religious rights?
Those who parrot a "need of religion in schools" only mean THEIR religion. Imagine if the courts said "sure, lets do it," and instituted Wiccanism. The Christians would panic.
And yet oh my god, you say hey im Wiccan and you can get chased out of town, have your job taken away, have your kids taken away, get your house reposessed or your car. Yes it does happen to many good people, because they dont conform to the main religion. I think you epople should get the stick out of the wrong place and suck it up, if all you can complane about is religion in schools then you really are on the wrong track in life.
@JoshuaTrio Except Jesus existed whether you believe He's divine or not. I guess that would be the same as dressing up as a marine then, since neither are fictional.
@rivlas "Except Jesus existed whether you believe He's divine or not" There may well have been a bloke called Jesus, but you have absolutely no idea if the person you know as Jesus ever existed! you don't know if the stories of Jesus are based in any kind of truth, you don't know if "Jesus" was a compilation of various people, you can't know because you don't even know who wrote the stories, the source is unknown
You are a one sided brain dude.... let's start having the Heros of the Gaza strip, Afganiztan's caves, from Meccca, Tamil Tiger heros in our school !!
just so ppl know, if religion was in schools, it would not be sunday schoolish. it would be tought from a scientific and logical view, not a religious one. like how we teach how ppl thought the stars were god, we dont teach that they are.
I support this video; I am an atheist and strongly feel that students and teachers should be allowed to express their personal religious views, whatever Christian, Atheist, Muslims or whatever it happens to be.
As long as the teachers (representative of Government and authority figures for the children) does not mention their own religious views, give more credit to one religious view or in any other way endorse one religious view over another while functioning as representative of government
@FuckTheWorld623 Thats not what he's sayong, he's saying people should be allowed to talk about it and that politicians should be able to use the values they got from religion to create laws.
Sooo will you be happy when they are preforming blood sacrifices on all the children?
Aren't enough blood sacrifices going on all around to make even the the more hardcore satanists in awe? Do you even have a clue what is going on right now with theosophical-luciferian-new age ideology and it's drive to wipe out everyone who will not "worship" maetraya? Not to mention the wiping out of all the "other" undesirables...Project Blue Beam is coming!
Yes, when they were mixing the pagan "gods" with worshipping the true God, they sacrificed their children. But at the pagan service and God was absolutely furious with them. Please tell me....how much time do you spend reading and meditating the Bible to truly be accurate in your accusations?
That project might be dumb, except in light of numerous numerous numerous signs to the contrary...
@logicnreason1, you know what's taboo in American schools? My beliefs. I get shit for being a LaVeyan Satanist. Much more shit than any Christian does, which they don't get in the first place..
The first Amendment ensures the SEPARATION of Church and State. Public schools are part of the STATE, thus trying to enforce ones religious belief in a public school would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL. The 1st Amendment also states the freedom of religion. This means one can believe in ANY god/s or deities they want. This also means you are free NOT TO BELIEVE in any god/s or deities. As I stated before, promoting religion in public schools is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
It's a Communist plot to destroy the white, western European people...because they are the true sons and daughters of Jacob/Israel (the proof is in Assyrian, Greek and Roman records documenting their migrations from Assyrian exile).
If you don't believe that, then you have NEVER studied history! The great battle between false Judah and true Judah took place in the first half of the 20th Century. For in Isaac would Abraham's seed be called: Saca-->Sacki-->Sacksen-->Sacsons-->Saxons Gen. 21:12
I like to learn about it but I personally think religion is just brainwashing. I am very well educated, but I think religion should be taught but NOT preached.
As an atheist, I agree with you and am surprised to see this video only has 3 stars. Atheists, stand up for freedom! A STUDENT talking about religion in school is not unconstitutional. A president applying the teachings of Jesus as the wise MAN that he was is not unconstitutional. We may be confident that we are in the right, but forcing one system on everyone is the kind of thing that, in the past, has given power to some really bad ideas.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be" - Thomas Jefferson
"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." - Samuel Adams
You sir (Mr Whitehead), are a patriot. Continue the assault on the unthinking.
"We have staked the whole of all ourpolitical institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." - James Madison
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ". - Patrick Henry
BOTH of those quotes you gave are FALSE. I'm guessing that you got them from the LIAR: David Barton, of Wallbuilders? Google: "David Barton: Master of Myth and Misinformation"
You do realize, of course, that if a kid dresses up as jesus and makes a presentation about how relgion is factual that the school could be sued by everybody else for promoting a religious view, right? You can't present or support religous things as facts in a publicly funded institution, you fucking idiot, that is what is unconstitutional.
Xtremephoenix, one student talking about his opinion in a presentation does not equal the school presenting religion as fact. Students have LOTS of differing (and often wrong) opinions about LOTS of things and everyone is aware of this phenomenon. People may sue because of it, but common sense will most likely win. And freedom of speech is also a constitutional right, in case anyone here forgot.
How about the kids keep it to themselves instead of trying to shove it down the other kid's throats. I think the big issue is probably what the kid was going to say, not the subject itself. I've seen essays from alabama and other southern states by little kids that are offensive as shit to anyone who isn't christian. Other kids have an equal right to freedom from religion, and if they are forced to listen to another kid preach his religion they are being denied that right.
Hearing a speech doesn't take away anyone's freedom from anything. And what the hell, "shove it down other kid's throats"? Little grade school kids aren't thinking about that, they don't have the hang-ups about religion that adults have. So Jesus was his hero, so what? If he'd picked Posiden, no one would have cared. But everyone freaks out when it's Jesus because we're all way too close to the issue and take it too seriously.
They made the kid do it in private to protect the other kids freedoms. Now, that could have been right or wrong, depending on the content. If the speech was about how jesus made people stop killing each other and helped people, that's okay, that's a legitimate speech that should be allowed in a classroom. if however, as I suspect is the case, it was about how he was the son of god and performed miracles left and right, that is prostheletizing, which is not allowed in publicly funded institution.
First of all, a kid saying that Jesus is his hero because he's the son of god or whatever is not proselytizing. It's just stating an opinion. Second, the KID is not being publicly funded. And third, please explain to me how a kid making a paragraph-long speech is supposed to take away any kind of freedom from anyone. It doesn't force anyone to do anything. Kids can even cover their ears if they think that hearing about religion will damage them or whatever. Which no kid thinks in the first place
you really don't understand kids, do you? they're very very impressionable creatures. Any kid going up and preaching about their religion should do it in private. also you have to take a look at things fromt the perspective of the school. let's say little mohammed bin muslimkid comes home one day and asks his parents "why didn't you guys ever tell me how great jesus was?"
They wouldn't win a ridiculous lawsuit like that. And good job stereotyping Muslims. Jesus is a Muslim prophet, you know.
And what the fuck, of COURSE kids are going to hear TONS of things from other kids that isn't true or that their parents wouldn't approve of. That's why it's the parents' job to explain things to their kids when they get asked about that stuff.
first, it can be any religion, I just used muslim as an example.
second, the phrase "there was a presentation at school today about jesus" is enough for a lot of parents to flip the fuck out without getting any details.
thirdly, even if the school district wins they have to pay for lawyers and shit and that can cost them a lot of money.
the phrase "better safe than sorry" comes to mind.
I realize this is an old post but suppose the kid comes home and says "Why didn't you tell me that God didn't create heaven and the earth?". His dad replies "where did you learn that?"
That would require the kid to be very good at reading between the lines, noticing that god is never mentioned in the study of how the universe began, and then putting two and two together to figure out that everything he's learned about science could happen without divine intervention, that god is therefore unneccessary, and that due to the rules of logic he therefore didn't create the universe.
Well, I disagree with just about everything you said. I don't believe the singularity which is said to have became the "big bang" could create the time and space which would have been necessary for it to exist in the first place.
I also believe that ONLY the parents should have the right to teach such things to their children. Certainly not a taxpayer funded institution.
Well I would say that there would have to be a hell of a lot of space if there was nothing there, because that's what space ultimately is: empty. Durr.
Also, time would be neccessary for any act of "creation," because without time there can be no change. Thus, time must have always existed, because without it you cannot create anything, even time.
so that leaves only energy to require a starting point, and what, pray tell, seems a more likely origin? A magical sky being, or a singularity?
Of course, that's making the assumption that matter has not always existed in some form, but assuming that something did have to begin I'm siding with the possibility of a singularity popping into existence over an infinitely complex magical sky being doing the same thing. That's occam's razor. The answer that assumes the least is the correct one.
Of course, the big bang theory and theory of evolution have been rigorously studied and deserve a place in the classroom. God hasn't and doesn't.
Are you actually that stupid? what the fuck are you babbling about. What do you suppose nothingness is? A complete absense of anything. In other words, empty fucking space.
of course, the universe as we know it consists of a sort of space-time fabric, the distortion of which is the cause of gravity, but we have no reason to suppose that A) it was ever not there or that B) if it did have a beginning it could not have come out of the big bang.
A) Time came into existence. this is a change. time is required for change. This is a paradox and therefore impossible.
Or
B) The past stretches out to infinity, as does the future, and we just happen to exist at this point in infinity (which is, for all intents and purposes, the middle).
Again, I'm siding with something that's just really hard to wrap your head around, as opposed to something that by definition is fucking impossible.
Xtremephoenix, I'm not going to argue with you. You're coming from a philosophical and I'm talking about scientific equations. "Never the twain shall meet"
I'm not trying to make you believe anything and you're not about to make me stop believing anything. I have studied and thought long and hard to come to my conclusions and I hope you have done the same.
as for the fabric of space time, that's not really a fabric in the physical sense. it's simply a fundamental property of the gravitational field. Whether or not that was something introduced by matter or is something inherent to the void of space is still up for debate, however we have no reason to suppose that it is anything that could not have been eternally present, or that any deity is required to have created it if not.
I like your argument but gotta point out, the vacuum of space is filled with energetic particles poping in and out of existence. Tesla touched on the theory, was able to actually harness it and since then it's been verified by others.(I can't remember any major names but if your interested, you'll find it)
There really is no place in the universe that has "nothingness"..if it exists, maybe the multi-dimensional string theory will find it, but for now, "nothingness" doesn't exist in the universe.
Well, technically speaking, whenever that happens, an equal number of antimatter particles come into existence, so the net total of matter in the universe is always nothing, but only speaking mathematically.
Also, qpwillie, the big bang theory has the same factual weight as gravitational theory. There's no debate on that front. Now, there are many possible causes for the big bang, some of which could literally come from nothing through quantum physics. none of them require god, and thus
The other thing you need to realize is that this is not a religious belief. The big bang is backed up by a significant amount of evidence. Arguing that it should only be taught by parents is, to put it mildly, retarded. If you want to argue that the scientific method is not a valid way to ascertain facts, then you'll also have to throw out every single court judgement on record in the united states, because the methods are pretty much identical.
What's bullshit about this is that it IS taboo to talk about religion, but it's taboo EVERYWHERE. Why the hell are you insisting that we put our kids thorugh religious conversations that we are not willing to have as adults? When was the last time you were in a public place (other than church) where you had an open discussion about religion that DIDN'T end up in a shouting match?
Why the hell do you want to put our kids through that, when you and I almost NEVER talk openly about religion?
Of course I'm talking about conversations outside of your close group of friends (also from church). I mean a REAL conversation about people who REALLY disagree with you.
This is misinformation, you can talk about religion in school. You can't preach to students though. You can pray in school. You can't mandate prayer in school though. This is fair, this is reasonable, this is America.
It's not illegal to talk about religion in schools, but teachers and staff shouldn't support a religious viewpoint as they are suppose to be unbiased when it comes to religion. If a Wiccan comes to school and tries to hand out pamphlets on paganism, all Christian parents would be in an uproar. When a Christian does it, it's no big deal. Double standard, hypocrisy, nonsense. All or none. And none makes more sense, no annoyances of religious zealots taking up valuable school time on endless debate
Every time you're defending Jesus being glorified in school, you might want to think about how yo would feel if someone was trying to glorify Lucifer. Little kid dressed as Jesus as his hero, little kid dressed as Lucifer as his hero... reading from the Holy Bible, reading from the Necronomicon or satanic literature. Every religion is offensive to the next religion. Secular schools are the only way society works, we don't have time to debate religion in school all day, that's a personal choice.
...because religion forbids the study of the natural world by means of the scientific method. Religion teaches others to accept the way the world is without question. Relgion does not deliver medicinal findings, it does not deliver the process to feed the planet, it does not provide the research for mankind to make leaps forward in technology. If you read the unedited version of Mathew, you will find he describes your saviour as a posterboy for NAMBLA. Do the research yourself!
Students-Should have the right to do religious rituels as long as it doesn't completely disturb the teaching process
Falculty-Same right; but cannot try to convert any of the students nor may they sponser any school-related religious activity unless the DIRECT counterpart is admitted as well.
So basically students have rights but faculty shouldn't do anything that might influence religious belief. Unless it's PROVEN true. or unless stated that such is a unproven theory.
Public "schools" aren't schools anymore. They teach herds how to be obedient subhumans, capable of feeding themselves and shouting every once in a while. This country needs a cleansing.
It took one person to disagree with it & cause a ruckus & it was through her, that the Bible was thown out of the Schools. Ever since they threw the Bible (God) out of the Public School System, our world has gone down hill.
In the public School Systems, it is okay to be as they call it, religious: Just as long as you aren't a Christian & believe in Jesus as UR Savior.
It's funny he's talking about the constitution but how many times is "god" mentioned in the bible?
What is the first amendment? Freedom of speech and freedom FROM religion. Just because you are part of the majority does not mean your right. NO ONE should teach their children religion until they have the capacity to understand what it really means. This guy is truly an idiot.
@danillum When you come into my church, you're going to hear the Word of God. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Don't come into my house acting a fool and bashing my religion. You practice your religion where you are, and I'll practice mine where I am.
Well... if you say it is wrong to prohibit religious activity in schools because it somehow alienates kids from religion (thus imposing an attitude about religion), then you must also believe that dressing up like Jesus in school is wrong because you would be openly promoting religion in school (thus imposing an attitude about religion). It is hypocritical to support one of these options while opposing the other in the name of freedom from outside influence on personal religious beliefs.
This is a straw man argument. I am a public school teacher and I can tell you that we have many detailed discussions about all religions. If a student told me that Jesus Christ was his or her hero it would most definitely NOT be an issue unlike the crazy straw man schools he is holding up as real examples. The kinds of schools he says he wants to create already exist - most schools are tolerant of all religions including Christianity.
Teaching religion is dangerously close to endorsing it. It's not kept secret, but there IS a clinical detachment from religion in schools and it IS there for a good reason. Placing any religion above the others is exactly what the Constitution is supposed to prevent.
Yes, but I like the idea of teaching comparitive religion. That way it is easily seen that there is little truth behind any particular one. You don't know how many Catholic kids I ran into in public schools that were in total shock to find out that even if he existed Jesus would have been Jewish. When laid side by side objectively they all come off as foolish fairy tales and it can be shown how they were all built upon the others fables from before Zoroastrianism and beyond into the present.
I think it would have been a fascinating class too. There's a little trouble with the subject since it would be difficult to squeeze in *all* religions, but if you cover all the ones that are reasonably representative of the US, it should be fine.
I think your subversive glee is part of why it won't happen though. :)
Imagine impressionable or rebellious kids coming home and declaring themselves Buddhist to outraged parents... That class would shitcanned faster than a Sex Ed Laboratory segment.
Actually I have taught it in a public HS as part of a World Cultures class in a basic form, but I'm able to hold back my glee and appear objective. The only problem there is that it takes a lot of time to do it correctly, about two and a half valuble weeks minimum, and sometimes there just isn't enough time, It depends on the exact circumstances. Haha - I always have few that became much more interested in Buddhism, I think it has to do with its peacefullness and nonmaterialism.
Admittedly, I did just pull Buddhism out of the air as an example, partly because I didn't think I'd rile up any delicate sensibilities by using them as an example.
No sensibilties here to be riled, I don't ascribe to budhism, I'm a true blooded rathional athiest. For some reason they just find it interesting. I think it is because most of them are so unfamiliar with it.
If they had just let the kid go as Jesus then he would be sending a message that Jesus has his place among imaginary people and creatures. I would call that a win.
Christian, Muslim or not, secularism literally means a neutral set of values that encompass us all.
It is important to teach people's beliefs, x believes y, z believes b, etc. If Christians (with a majority in the US) start pushing their beliefs, they'll encounter trouble when Muslims want their beliefs taught too... And where does it end?
What I mean is something came out of something which came out of nothing. Well, nevermind, still as absurd as a God just being there, I suppose.
Anyway, what I mean by Creation base is basically what Intelligent Design hypothesis aims to do; teach them of the 'detectable evidence' of a designer deity; but not teach them of any particular deity. And by Evolution base, they should still teach it, but as the hypothesis that it is. Together.
"And by Evolution base, they should still teach it, but as the hypothesis that it is"
I'm talking about the Theory of Evolution. As in the FACT of Evolution. And if you teach creationism together with it, or "ID", then why not teach "Intelligent falling" instead of Gravitation? And teach "Stork Theory" instead of Sexual Reproduction?
Where did you get the strange idea that it is a fact? The only thing testable about it is adaptation, and that neither confirms it or refutes the design hypothesis.
I see a bunch of people spewing out "evolution is a fact", but I don't see anyone saying why it IS a fact.
"Where did you get the strange idea that it is a fact?"
Let's see now: 1. Fossil Record, 2. Anatomical Record, 3. Molecular Record, 4. Genetics, inc. Chromasomal evidence for the common ancestry of humans and apes...
I can go on. I'm often working with Scientists who use the FACTS of Evolution to make predictions about the evolution of bacteria and viruses for example. Currently we're working on the flu vaccine for - guess what? Flu virii that don't even exist yet. You need to go study....
1. All fossils are forms in transition. The fossil record DOES have plants in it (where do you get your facts from? AnswersInGenesis? You can see them at the National History Museum).
2. There is no such thing as "kind".
3. Why?
4. Who said anything about humans and chimps being transitional? I said they had COMMON ANCESTRY.
Seriously, you really do need to study the Theory of Evolution. And by study, I mean BIOLOGY, not wacky fringe evangelical apologetics.
1. That still doesn't remove the fact that there are millions of transitional fossils missing. (Oh dear. Save me from the illustrations of plant evolution.)
2. Oh? And why do you say this? Dogs can reproduce with dogs and produce dogs. That is what I define as a kind.
3. Think about this analogy.
If I write a book in english about the fox, then I write something about the duck, it shares three things, they're about animals, they're books, and they're english.
1. I was raised as a Christian. Also, Christianity is larger, more loving (although yes, Islam is loving also), and whether it's a placebo effect or not, helps keep me motivated.
2. Although I know evolutionists hate creationontheweb, it provides citations that are worth investigating.
Google "New archaeological find affirms Old Testament historicity"
1. Why is this important to me? Because I like excercising my mind. Sudden appearances, such as the Cambrian explosion, destroys a key transition. This is a bit like if Genesis didn't exist in the Bible!
2. Then what is the technical defintion for it? It still doesn't remove the simple fact, dog + dog = dog.
3. The where did [origin maker] arguement doesn't make sense, which is why the 'where did the big bang come from' arguement isn't used much (I think I used it, though)
I think the point is missed by the theistic communtiy as to why your not supposed to bring religion into schools and I can give a perfect example that has personally happened to me.
We recently did a similar thing for the lower grades of our district, well a christian girl decided she was going to do jesus, which no one really minded, but she wasn't so much saying why he was her hero as much as she was just preaching and telling the kids about sin.
So America is so lost that we need to make laws to protect what the Constitution protects and Rundstedt1 thinks that makes Regan a bad president. Why not just mail me your money then. This is America and I wish America would wake up. It's time to read the Constitution and force the Government to abide by it. I suggest you read history
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
In 1984 President Regan created the equality act of 1984 which states that anyone can worship, pray, or read the Bible in school. If someone chooses not to partake in it then they do not have to. But we do have the right. People should use this law more often
Another reason Reagan was the worst president we had. And add to that that he instituted the largest tax increase ever put upon the working people by doubling the payroll deductions and then using the increase in SS money to subsidize the wealthy even more and that he was negotiating to sell arms to Iran, BEFORE he was president, fighting an illegal war and killing civilians in Nicaragua and El Salvador
"Yes, but I like the idea of teaching comparitive religion. That way it is easily seen that there is little truth behind any particular one" - Rundstedt1
And that's why there's resistance to the idea of teaching comparatively. In any case, don't you agree that schools with a goal to indoctrinate will just teach "This is what heathen group x believe" and "This is the truth which we believe"?
Is there a national curriculum for educational standards across the United States?
The desperately determined atheists who have swarmed in here to argue against God have missed the point of the video.
The point was that you are creating a society that is prejudiced against God and religion.
The little kiddies were not debating the merits of Jesus, Spiderman, Hulk Hogan, Captain Chesley Sullenberger, or Maimonides. Every child has his heroes, but at least one child in this class was not free to express his opinion.
We are creating a society of prejudice? 2 years ago the U of Minn did a study and the atheists came out dead last as far as who would make a good President. If one kid gets up and says his hero is Pontius Pilate because he put the lying blasphemer to death for absurd claims is that ok in school?
Oh - so I guess there is no more evil in the world. How ridicules; the critique still stands, god is either impotent, non-existent or just a prick. And what did the mythological Jesus sacrifice? Was he not supposed to be god? So he came to earth knowing what would happen. So therefore he committed suicide, a sin. And then what? He went back up to being god, that's about as much a sacrifice as leaving the country club to go and buy a new pair of shoes.
The whole fable is silly and unsupported. The Romans executed many people; those deaths were far more horrible than that of the mythical figure of Jesus who died after less than a day. Another reason that the story is not true: it doesnt fit in with what we know about what the Roman practice. And yes he is a mythological figure; there is no reputable evidence outside the bias of the bible for him.
And I say fine, let the kid come as his mythological hero. And then when he presents himself it can be used as an opportunity to teach comparative religions, it should be made clear that that myth has no more veracity than any of the other myths, say those of Thor, Zeus, and all the other religions, or even Spiderman. God should be removed, not only from American life but from all of civilization, and then far fewer will die because of its bigotry.
The only way for you to understand is to actually read the Bible before you judge God on what people do. Answer me this, can you make something of nothing? Where did everything come from? Why is the Universe governed by a set of laws? Can you truly look at creation and say it was just a freak accident. I could take a few hours out of my life and explain everything to you but you probably would end up insulting me. So, I'm done with you.
There are years of learning science invloved in the answers you seek, and you are obviously well behind the norm. It is typical that you shotgun complecated questions because you have no evidence yourself. Even by using words like freak accident, it shows your profound ignorance of science. Here's a channel with all your answers though.
Thunderf00t
Oh - and I have read the bible, that violent bigoted hateful piece of mythological crap. Grimm's frairy tales have more truth and morality.
And here are some more answers to the complicated questions that are difficult to answer in 500 spaces. And which you purposely use to try to distract from YOUR lack of eveidence.
I was a xian and have read the bible cover to cover twice as well as have it on audio and have listened to it. Define nothing. A singularity is microscopic so that's close to nothing but that's where we came from. We figured out the laws like gravity. The Drake Equation shows life is not impossible and the earth isn't specially created but one of many. I'd insult you if you insult me so I'm done with you too now go look up the info I gave you and learn.
Epicurius did not consider what happened on the cross, and its ultimate end found in Revelation 5.
I post this knowing two things:
1. It is the answer to the dilemma.
2. It is a total waste of time for most folks. They want God out of American life, period. Their hedonism is important to them and they therefore do not care about our arguments or the arguments of the Founders of this Nation. They will continue to attack and erode the freedom of my children and grandchildren.
The only thing that happened is a guy died and unfortunately many people were crucified back then, the mythical jc wasn't special. God is out of this American's life but unfortunately I'm surrounded by people that think he's real so I have to deal with the god thing. Our hedonism or do you mean Ted Haggard cause atheists have a lower divorce rate and prison incarceration rate so it's not us that are the bad guys. The FF wanted freedom of speech and religion and I support that.
Lets take instead of a fake non historical versoin of christ . lets invent a new god. call him tony , and he will stand for what ever the powers that be are for. So abortion , but he could change , and the morals and values of the majority
Remeber school is for fact and obvious truths. And when catholicsm is an obvious truth , what do we do with obama and the government who killed 500000000000 children with abortion and legalised filth porn and contraception. The new government with take the unrepentant dangerous powerful sinner and destroy them. Jesus the terrorist against the powers of evil.
Jesus brings condemnation and the saints show the sinners their evil. Scary. And when you talk about Jesus he stands out from everyone else as does the Catholic Church. Lourdes , fatima guadalupe. Its scares the ignorant. Jesus is the truth , truth isnt anything else but that person.
And then kids ask what does the teacher and the school do that the Pope says is bad. Attack on government and sin. That cant be allowed ?
My favorite is always Tom Paine, who was an admitted atheist.
Anyway, thank you :)
Here's an amusing history orientated vid. about him. (Man - you have to love the BBC, I wish our TV was as good as theirs. Half the time the history channel has something on about flying saucers or ghosts.)
Rundstedt1, Robertmike57, TXatheist you are allowed to voice your opinion no matter how ill informed and programed by the left BECAUSE you live in a Christian nation. Most nations would kill you for not believing in the "national" religion. Muslim nations kill you simply for not being a muslim. Wake up before your ignorance costs us all our freedom.
djfisher, no, the Constitution allows me freespeech and the FF thought of that idea specifically because of the church's persecution of people in Europe while they were there. America killed witches simply for being witches at the Salem Witch trials. .
There is plenty of archeological proof that Jesus lived and died. There is no proof of evolution. No transitional species fossils. The ignorant remarks are proof that our school system has been corrupted by leftist thought, something the Russians started after WW2 when their professors came to the USA to sow the seeds of the unrest we are witnessing today. You toss the word abuse around like a weapon. The only victims in America are those too blind to see the Real Truth. I'll pray for you.
There is absolutly no proof of Jesus existance, especially archeological, if you have some present it. Look up transitional fossils there are plenty of them, you are just another bible thumper who refuses to admit the truth to themselves and is too much of a coward to respond to either Robertmike or myself directly in the comments here.
I fear nothing but God. There recently have been tablets dug up with the name and account of Jesus etched in stone. There have been hundreds of accounts of His life passed down through the centuries. Miracles galore, even to this day. I have witness a few myself. But you never will because you are blinded by the world that hates you.
What exactly are the scientific references for those supposed tablets. Accounts passed down are bullshit, did you ever here of the "telephone" exercise. Everything you state is unproven hearsay, and christian hearsay at that, and that is from them there is real bias. There are hundreds of accounts of Santa Clause passed down through even only the decades that since he was invented. I asked for evidence and all you can give is a generlized propaganda statement, you have nothing.
Archeopteryx is a bird or lizard and why? There is no proof of jc. There is hearsay and forged documents. Russia has next to no influence on our school system. Real Truth? I suppose you have it and we don't, how arrogant. Pray all you want but when I wake up an atheist it only confirms prayer is useless.
ok... i wanted to correct all that this guy got wrong, but youtube only gives me 500 characters, and I dont have all night.

Im sure the christian parents would all say, "well isnt that sweet, what a nice little boy."
blahblahreadabook 2 months ago
in his example of the kid choosing jesus as his hero... first, and I virtually guarantee this to be the case... the assignment was to pick a real life hero, a hero that unquestionably existed and furthermore verifiable did certain actions that make him a hero (otherwise the kids would all come as spiderman or wolverine). Im sorry, but in this case coming as jesus is unacceptable, jesus' life/deeds are a matter of faith, to present them as factual is misleading to other children, very clear cut.
blahblahreadabook 2 months ago
ok... first he said that god has become the new 4 letter word...

HoundofOdin 7 months ago 4

B-b-but...what does it say AFTER that?

The reason religion NEEDS to be seporate from school because schools can't serve as spawning grounds for religious beliefs. It is not about taking away anything, but rather allowing people who do not want their kids to be told about the "hero" Jesus, who saved their kids. I don't believe in religion, I would probabely have to take my kid out of public school if I thought my kids would have to fit into a christian view of their peers.
davinitall 9 months ago
What kinds of public schools are you talking about? Ive been to public schools and students are saying Oh my God almost every second. Let's just say you can talk about God and not be punished in any schools.
AznGotChen 10 months ago
@RogerWazup I couldn't agree with you more. Children should not have to be forced into these structured systems of what to believe and I personally feel that children need to be exposed to different cultures in our world, not just the more common ones in our country. no one should be forced to take part in something that they don't believe in or feel that they're being told what to believe. let kids free their minds for religion in school is an option to the child not a school law.
SpeedDemon3870 10 months ago
Also, to avoid confusion, when I say that I believe in separation of the two, I mean that teachers should not promote any particular views but instead encourage students to find their own answers. If religion is taught, it should be unbiased and include all major views including Protestantism, Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, atheism, etc. However, teaching is one thing; class prayer is another. Students should not be required OR expected to participate in any religious activity.
RogerWazup007 11 months ago
I'm atheist, and I don't feel that schools should be "atheistic" or anything, rather that there should be a separation of church and state, of religion and public institutions. Children have the right to talk about religion, but the reason why it's taboo if at all is because the TEACHERS risk losing their jobs if they even say what they believe if anything. But I strongly believe in freedom of religion. People should have the right to be whatever they want if any including minority options.
RogerWazup007 11 months ago
the problem is not talking about subjects. its that kids believe in anything an adult with a strong status in their life talk about. hence, religion. wait till they are 18+
astro15 11 months ago
yeah, then some other kid dressing up like Muhammad and next you a have a little JIhad between students in the classroom or a kid dresses up like satan because that mythical creature is that kid's hero and his parents get a knock on their door from child protective services.
until people learn that there are many "one true god" in the world, and you can't prove that yours is real...it's best to keep it out of the public schools.

Only mandatory religion was banned.
sleazybtd 1 year ago 2
When I grew up Christianity was taught in school. Whilst I am not aligned with any religion I did as a child benefit from the religious input
Banning religion from school seems these days seems to exclude teaching around morals or care & consideration of others on a regular basis. Is it no wonder we are creating a society that treats people as commodities & is breeding extreme narcissism?
I totally agree with this man, we will end up with a society that respects no-one
explorer2101 1 year ago
@explorer2101 Nonsense. Morality and consideration are NOT realms of the religious upbringing. We are not "creating a society that treats people as commodities" by excluding religious influence from schooling. This sort of "creation" requires an entire social shift, beyond a simple religious difference or lacking. Its commonly claimed religion=morality, but I've found the exact opposite. More crimes take place in religious states, cities, counties, etc than happen in less religious ones.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
@explorer2101 Also, talking about "respect," how is influencing Christianity in our public and *mandatory* school system respecting anyone who isn't Christian? Christians are the majority, so that means the mob majority should be able to institute religious educational demands above other peoples religious rights?
Those who parrot a "need of religion in schools" only mean THEIR religion. Imagine if the courts said "sure, lets do it," and instituted Wiccanism. The Christians would panic.
DeadlyChinchilla 1 year ago
Really? What schools are these? There is absolutly no law or even any1 protesting for a law that says no religion in school.
Now there are people who don't want their kids to be endoctornated into religions at school, but they don't want to ban it.
I go to a school with a relitivly high atheist rate. One kid carries a pocket bible. No one cares.

A president applying the teachings of Jesus as the wise MAN that he was is not unconstitutional. We may be confident that we are in the right, but forcing one system on everyone is the kind of thing that, in the past, has given power to some really bad ideas.

You do realize, of course, that if a kid dresses up as jesus and makes a presentation about how relgion is factual that the school could be sued by everybody else for promoting a religious view, right? You can't present or support religous things as facts in a publicly funded institution, you fucking idiot, that is what is unconstitutional.
also, way to quote-mine jefferson, douchebag.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
Xtremephoenix, one student talking about his opinion in a presentation does not equal the school presenting religion as fact. Students have LOTS of differing (and often wrong) opinions about LOTS of things and everyone is aware of this phenomenon. People may sue because of it, but common sense will most likely win. And freedom of speech is also a constitutional right, in case anyone here forgot.
GuacamoleKun 2 years ago
How about the kids keep it to themselves instead of trying to shove it down the other kid's throats. I think the big issue is probably what the kid was going to say, not the subject itself. I've seen essays from alabama and other southern states by little kids that are offensive as shit to anyone who isn't christian. Other kids have an equal right to freedom from religion, and if they are forced to listen to another kid preach his religion they are being denied that right.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
Hearing a speech doesn't take away anyone's freedom from anything. And what the hell, "shove it down other kid's throats"? Little grade school kids aren't thinking about that, they don't have the hang-ups about religion that adults have. So Jesus was his hero, so what? If he'd picked Posiden, no one would have cared. But everyone freaks out when it's Jesus because we're all way too close to the issue and take it too seriously.
GuacamoleKun 2 years ago 2
They made the kid do it in private to protect the other kids freedoms. Now, that could have been right or wrong, depending on the content. If the speech was about how jesus made people stop killing each other and helped people, that's okay, that's a legitimate speech that should be allowed in a classroom. if however, as I suspect is the case, it was about how he was the son of god and performed miracles left and right, that is prostheletizing, which is not allowed in publicly funded institution.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
First of all, a kid saying that Jesus is his hero because he's the son of god or whatever is not proselytizing. It's just stating an opinion. Second, the KID is not being publicly funded. And third, please explain to me how a kid making a paragraph-long speech is supposed to take away any kind of freedom from anyone. It doesn't force anyone to do anything. Kids can even cover their ears if they think that hearing about religion will damage them or whatever. Which no kid thinks in the first place
GuacamoleKun 2 years ago 3
you really don't understand kids, do you? they're very very impressionable creatures. Any kid going up and preaching about their religion should do it in private. also you have to take a look at things fromt the perspective of the school. let's say little mohammed bin muslimkid comes home one day and asks his parents "why didn't you guys ever tell me how great jesus was?"
his dad replies "where did you learn that?"
"at school"
BAM! lawsuit. these things happen all the time.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
They wouldn't win a ridiculous lawsuit like that. And good job stereotyping Muslims. Jesus is a Muslim prophet, you know.
And what the fuck, of COURSE kids are going to hear TONS of things from other kids that isn't true or that their parents wouldn't approve of. That's why it's the parents' job to explain things to their kids when they get asked about that stuff.
GuacamoleKun 2 years ago
first, it can be any religion, I just used muslim as an example.
second, the phrase "there was a presentation at school today about jesus" is enough for a lot of parents to flip the fuck out without getting any details.
thirdly, even if the school district wins they have to pay for lawyers and shit and that can cost them a lot of money.
the phrase "better safe than sorry" comes to mind.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
That phrase sucks.
GuacamoleKun 2 years ago
I realize this is an old post but suppose the kid comes home and says "Why didn't you tell me that God didn't create heaven and the earth?". His dad replies "where did you learn that?"
"At school"
qpwillie 2 years ago
That would require the kid to be very good at reading between the lines, noticing that god is never mentioned in the study of how the universe began, and then putting two and two together to figure out that everything he's learned about science could happen without divine intervention, that god is therefore unneccessary, and that due to the rules of logic he therefore didn't create the universe.
A kid that smart would be an atheist already.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
Well, I disagree with just about everything you said. I don't believe the singularity which is said to have became the "big bang" could create the time and space which would have been necessary for it to exist in the first place.
I also believe that ONLY the parents should have the right to teach such things to their children. Certainly not a taxpayer funded institution.
qpwillie 2 years ago

Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
Empty space is not nothingness. Space was created with the universe and is part of it. Check out some physics books.
If time is infinite, then it took infinity for this moment to occur which means it never did and never will occur.
qpwillie 2 years ago
Are you actually that stupid? what the fuck are you babbling about. What do you suppose nothingness is? A complete absense of anything. In other words, empty fucking space.
of course, the universe as we know it consists of a sort of space-time fabric, the distortion of which is the cause of gravity, but we have no reason to suppose that A) it was ever not there or that B) if it did have a beginning it could not have come out of the big bang.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
as for time. let's look at it this way. either:
A) Time came into existence. this is a change. time is required for change. This is a paradox and therefore impossible.
Or
B) The past stretches out to infinity, as does the future, and we just happen to exist at this point in infinity (which is, for all intents and purposes, the middle).
Again, I'm siding with something that's just really hard to wrap your head around, as opposed to something that by definition is fucking impossible.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
Xtremephoenix, I'm not going to argue with you. You're coming from a philosophical and I'm talking about scientific equations. "Never the twain shall meet"
I'm not trying to make you believe anything and you're not about to make me stop believing anything. I have studied and thought long and hard to come to my conclusions and I hope you have done the same.
qpwillie 2 years ago
It's not philosophy, it's logic.
1. time coming into existence through any means would be a change. Time itself is required for change to occur. Therefore time must be infinite.
2. Time is infinite and this moment is happening. Therefore, an infinite timeline does not prevent the present from happening.
That's logical, scientific. Saying that infinity would prevent the present from occuring is falacious.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
as for the fabric of space time, that's not really a fabric in the physical sense. it's simply a fundamental property of the gravitational field. Whether or not that was something introduced by matter or is something inherent to the void of space is still up for debate, however we have no reason to suppose that it is anything that could not have been eternally present, or that any deity is required to have created it if not.
that's also scientific, not philosophical.
Xtremephoenix 2 years ago
I like your argument but gotta point out, the vacuum of space is filled with energetic particles poping in and out of existence. Tesla touched on the theory, was able to actually harness it and since then it's been verified by others.(I can't remember any major names but if your interested, you'll find it)
There really is no place in the universe that has "nothingness"..if it exists, maybe the multi-dimensional string theory will find it, but for now, "nothingness" doesn't exist in the universe.
TheHigherVoltage 1 year ago
Well, technically speaking, whenever that happens, an equal number of antimatter particles come into existence, so the net total of matter in the universe is always nothing, but only speaking mathematically.
Also, qpwillie, the big bang theory has the same factual weight as gravitational theory. There's no debate on that front. Now, there are many possible causes for the big bang, some of which could literally come from nothing through quantum physics. none of them require god, and thus
Xtremephoenix 1 year ago
occam's razor cuts him out of the equation.
Xtremephoenix 1 year ago
What's bullshit about this is that it IS taboo to talk about religion, but it's taboo EVERYWHERE. Why the hell are you insisting that we put our kids thorugh religious conversations that we are not willing to have as adults? When was the last time you were in a public place (other than church) where you had an open discussion about religion that DIDN'T end up in a shouting match?
Why the hell do you want to put our kids through that, when you and I almost NEVER talk openly about religion?
psusac 2 years ago
Of course I'm talking about conversations outside of your close group of friends (also from church). I mean a REAL conversation about people who REALLY disagree with you.

This is misinformation, you can talk about religion in school. You can't preach to students though. You can pray in school. You can't mandate prayer in school though. This is fair, this is reasonable, this is America.
Zairik 2 years ago
It's not illegal to talk about religion in schools, but teachers and staff shouldn't support a religious viewpoint as they are suppose to be unbiased when it comes to religion. If a Wiccan comes to school and tries to hand out pamphlets on paganism, all Christian parents would be in an uproar. When a Christian does it, it's no big deal. Double standard, hypocrisy, nonsense. All or none. And none makes more sense, no annoyances of religious zealots taking up valuable school time on endless debate
Zairik 2 years ago
Every time you're defending Jesus being glorified in school, you might want to think about how yo would feel if someone was trying to glorify Lucifer. Little kid dressed as Jesus as his hero, little kid dressed as Lucifer as his hero... reading from the Holy Bible, reading from the Necronomicon or satanic literature. Every religion is offensive to the next religion. Secular schools are the only way society works, we don't have time to debate religion in school all day, that's a personal choice.
Zairik 2 years ago
...because religion forbids the study of the natural world by means of the scientific method.

This guy is truly an idiot.

tim9798 2 years ago
Well... if you say it is wrong to prohibit religious activity in schools because it somehow alienates kids from religion (thus imposing an attitude about religion), then you must also believe that dressing up like Jesus in school is wrong because you would be openly promoting religion in school (thus imposing an attitude about religion). It is hypocritical to support one of these options while opposing the other in the name of freedom from outside influence on personal religious beliefs.

well in this case, the kid should have had no trouble coming as jesus.
the most important religions should be thought, the kids should basicly know what the religions teach, their books, their history.

Placing any religion above the others is exactly what the Constitution is supposed to prevent.
jbxenia 2 years ago 2
Yes, but I like the idea of teaching comparitive religion. That way it is easily seen that there is little truth behind any particular one. You don't know how many Catholic kids I ran into in public schools that were in total shock to find out that even if he existed Jesus would have been Jewish. When laid side by side objectively they all come off as foolish fairy tales and it can be shown how they were all built upon the others fables from before Zoroastrianism and beyond into the present.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago 2
I think it would have been a fascinating class too. There's a little trouble with the subject since it would be difficult to squeeze in *all* religions, but if you cover all the ones that are reasonably representative of the US, it should be fine.
I think your subversive glee is part of why it won't happen though. :)
Imagine impressionable or rebellious kids coming home and declaring themselves Buddhist to outraged parents... That class would shitcanned faster than a Sex Ed Laboratory segment.
jbxenia 2 years ago
Actually I have taught it in a public HS as part of a World Cultures class in a basic form, but I'm able to hold back my glee and appear objective. The only problem there is that it takes a lot of time to do it correctly, about two and a half valuble weeks minimum, and sometimes there just isn't enough time, It depends on the exact circumstances. Haha - I always have few that became much more interested in Buddhism, I think it has to do with its peacefullness and nonmaterialism.
Thank you:)

Religion is important. And thus it must be taught in schools.
COMPARATIVELY.
The problem with "God" is that you are referring to Yahweh.
How would you feel if PUBLIC TAX FUNDS are spent on pushing Scientology in your local schools?
What about Islam?
How would you feel about that?
Of course. It would be a problem.
Teach comparatively.
deconverts 2 years ago 5
@deconverts
I agree completely, and yes, I am a Christian.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
Christian, Muslim or not, secularism literally means a neutral set of values that encompass us all.
It is important to teach people's beliefs, x believes y, z believes b, etc. If Christians (with a majority in the US) start pushing their beliefs, they'll encounter trouble when Muslims want their beliefs taught too... And where does it end?
deconverts 2 years ago
It doesn't.
I'm all for teaching the Creation side; something created universe, as well as the secular side, universe just came out of nothing.
I'm not saying teach the Christian creationism only; teach the Creation base as well as the Evolution base.
E.G. In the Creation base there is Christianity and Islam, but none of them are mentioned.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
@THCF: Straw Man fallacy. "universe just came out of nothing" is not the "secular side". Neither is it what Atheists believe.
What do you mean regarding the "Creation base" and "Evolution base"? I am not familiar with those terms.
And I don't understand your example either, sorry.
deconverts 2 years ago
What I mean is something came out of something which came out of nothing. Well, nevermind, still as absurd as a God just being there, I suppose.
Anyway, what I mean by Creation base is basically what Intelligent Design hypothesis aims to do; teach them of the 'detectable evidence' of a designer deity; but not teach them of any particular deity. And by Evolution base, they should still teach it, but as the hypothesis that it is. Together.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
"And by Evolution base, they should still teach it, but as the hypothesis that it is"
I'm talking about the Theory of Evolution. As in the FACT of Evolution. And if you teach creationism together with it, or "ID", then why not teach "Intelligent falling" instead of Gravitation? And teach "Stork Theory" instead of Sexual Reproduction?
Why?
Because it's a glorious waste of time.
Let's stick to the FACTS.
deconverts 2 years ago
Where did you get the strange idea that it is a fact? The only thing testable about it is adaptation, and that neither confirms it or refutes the design hypothesis.
I see a bunch of people spewing out "evolution is a fact", but I don't see anyone saying why it IS a fact.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
"Where did you get the strange idea that it is a fact?"
Let's see now: 1. Fossil Record, 2. Anatomical Record, 3. Molecular Record, 4. Genetics, inc. Chromasomal evidence for the common ancestry of humans and apes...
I can go on. I'm often working with Scientists who use the FACTS of Evolution to make predictions about the evolution of bacteria and viruses for example. Currently we're working on the flu vaccine for - guess what? Flu virii that don't even exist yet. You need to go study....
deconverts 2 years ago
1. The fossil record lacks transitional forms of plants, and there are barely any other fossils that can be classified as a transition.
2. Variations within a kind (E.G. dog) are often extrapolated to variations from kind to kind (E.G. fish to shark).
3. Common DNA structures in animals can mean either a common evolution or a common designer.
4. There are about 150,000,000 DNA base pairs that are different in humans and chimps. This makes chimps a very way off transitional.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
And by study, I mean BIOLOGY, not wacky fringe evangelical apologetics.
deconverts 2 years ago
4. So what did humans come from?
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago
1. Why is this important to you? Every fossil found fits in the record perfectly and never is one found that has contradicted the record.
2. I say this because in taxonomy there is no such thing as a kind.
3. If there is a designer, where did the designer come from?
4. Use Google and find your answer! Plus there are MANY - MANY - YouTube videos here that will show you the genealogy of Homo Sapiens.

deconverts 2 years ago
Thank you for supplying some things.
Should be interesting.
Trueholycrapfish 2 years ago

AmosPressley 2 years ago
We are creating a society of prejudice? 2 years ago the U of Minn did a study and the atheists came out dead last as far as who would make a good President. If one kid gets up and says his hero is Pontius Pilate because he put the lying blasphemer to death for absurd claims is that ok in school?
TXatheist 2 years ago 2
Oh - so I guess there is no more evil in the world. How ridicules; the critique still stands, god is either impotent, non-existent or just a prick. And what did the mythological Jesus sacrifice? Was he not supposed to be god? So he came to earth knowing what would happen. So therefore he committed suicide, a sin. And then what? He went back up to being god, that's about as much a sacrifice as leaving the country club to go and buy a new pair of shoes.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago 3
The whole fable is silly and unsupported. The Romans executed many people; those deaths were far more horrible than that of the mythical figure of Jesus who died after less than a day. Another reason that the story is not true: it doesnt fit in with what we know about what the Roman practice. And yes he is a mythological figure; there is no reputable evidence outside the bias of the bible for him.
Rundstedt1 2 years ago 4
And I say fine, let the kid come as his mythological hero. And then when he presents himself it can be used as an opportunity to teach comparative religions, it should be made clear that that myth has no more veracity than any of the other myths, say those of Thor, Zeus, and all the other religions, or even Spiderman. God should be removed, not only from American life but from all of civilization, and then far fewer will die because of its bigotry.
