Gomi dominated rounds 1-3. round 4 was a 10-9 because gomi was on top for the majority, round 5 gomi was even more gassed than before and lost the round. Gomi won that fight any way you look at it

the Florian fight should be interesting. i think Florian will be cocky for the first 3 minutes and try to fight, then he will go to his bjj, because that is Gomi's weakness. Gomi got RNC'd by BJ Penn in Hawaii and outboxed (and gassed even worse then this) against Nate Diaz in Pride. Not sure where all this he used to be #1 talk ever came from. He's good, but he wouldn't far well in in the UFC.

He did used to be number one. Do your research - while penn was fighting nobodies like rodrigo gracie, jens pulver the second time and joe stevenson for a title (WTF?!) gomi was clearing out the ENTIRE top 10 of the lw division. Has he fallen? yep. but he was the best in the world.

And Penn was scared to stand with him even back when gomi DIDNT have polished boxing. Gomi was winning the majority of exchanges on the feet and swept Penn a couple of times. Swept penn! how often do you say that?

The last round is all that kept this from being one of the greatest fights I've seen in ages. They both quit. Hervey had the energy to windmill in the ring after the fight, but not to throw more punches? Still, from the damage he did during standup and groundwork in the last few rounds(he did a bit more than Gomi), I thought Hervey mighta pulled it off. Unanimous decision for Gomi? Hell naw! Split in my opinion. I like Gomi, but I don't know how he'd do against top talent over here.

Gomi easily won the first three rounds, Hervey dominated the fourth and I even thought he might have been able to pull of a TKO, the fifth was lackluster and could have gone either way; Fighting in the UFC, i dont see that Gomi will have a cardio problem, but in a 5 round championship fight against BJ Penn, if he cant finish him in the first 3 rounds, his cardio will be his downfall

I think Florian will take it though. Gomi has poor defense against leg kicks and bad footwork. Florian is a probably the toughest guy right now right next after BJ Penn.

Plus it will be Gomi's 1rst UFC fight ( UFC jitters)

This gassing is a relatively new thing. If you watch him go on a tear in pride he was a cardio monster. After his fight with jean silva bas commented that he gassed and we "never see him gassing". Kawajiri is a good striker, gomi dismantled him, as is pulver, sakurai etc. He does fight toe to toe but he also switch hits a lot and uses body shots.

As a side note have you EVER seen bj win a fight where his opponent has hit him in the body? Hughes did it before he "blew his own rib out", gsp too

you guys act like Gomi has no cardio. he has never faught 25 minutes(5x5 rounds) before. his entire 35 fight career, gomi has only faught 15(pride, shooto, wvr) minutes. Plus when Gomi gassed he was in the ufc champion rounds (4 and 5 rounds). judging by this fight and bj's last fight. The only person in the ufc that can beat him is bj. kenflo cant handle power and he is 2nd best lw in the ufc. just my observation of the ufc lw comp.

I usually don't watch UFC or all these other fighting shows. i remember gomi a few years ago when i was watching a clip at my friends house. I just looked on wikipedia just today about Gomi.. it said he was considered 1 of the best lightweight UFC fighters...

Does he usually get this tired? Because i thought he'd have a bit more stamina that's all.. or maybe he hasn't been training as much as before?

@dstea Gomi went through an identity crisis where he wanted to become a pro surfer. This is him post-that, not sure if he still wants to do it though. But Gomi never had great cardio. A lot of his wins came in the first round so he didnt' really need it but he has had better cardio thant his. He goes through good and bad stages but hopefully Gomi is gonna take it a little more serious in the future.

everybody is serious no matter where you go and for a while Japanese promotions had the top fighters. as for him going into the US, he could make a big impression if he works his conditioning and trains to fight in cage.

almost all his life he has fought in a Ring but in America most fights are in a cage and the rules are different and believe me the difference between a cage and a ring is huge. you could do things in a cage you couldnt do in a ring.

An focused Gomi is game for ANY lightweight in the world. I think he'd do fine in the american orgs.

Gomi has great wrestling for a foreigner and a granite chin, i think stylistically, he matches up well against a lot of the lw fighters in the american orgs other than maybe nate diaz, lol. Only time will tell, but if he was anything close to what he was like 4 years ago, he poses a threat to anyone.

Gomi never fought in UFC. youre probably getting UFC the biggest brand in the sport, with the actual sport, Mixed Martial Arts. UFC is to MMA as NFL is to football or NBA to basketball.

by the way to answer youre question, Gomi's cardio is something that haunted him his whole career, he was always talented and wrecked everyone in his prime but he always gassed.

also hes past his prime by this point in his career. remember your friend said he "Was" one of the best.

2 things appears to be the cause of Gomi's stamina.

1.) He's kililng himself to make circa 155 and as a result his stamina is awful.
