I feel that the physics are pretty important to a Sonic game. I don't feel this is the worst Sonic game, or even 2D Sonic game. I feel those tittles are taken by Sonic Heros and Knuckles Catotix (Which is a game I love, I hate Sonic Heros though)

I like Sonic 4, it is a lot of fun, but its far too short for my liking. plus those physics are really off putting in certain sections of the game. the game has its problems but it is still hell fun from time to time. plus im a guy who loves the spin dash and the way the speed element was changed in this game is a tad a annoying, but otherwise sonic 4 ep 1 is good stuff, definitely not the worst sonic game ever.

The biggest physics stuffup is on the iOS version - it's almost completely broken with this weird disjointed level select / challenge screen. It's basically unplayable on that platform.

I don't agree with your comments about Sonic fans. I think that it's fine to constructively complain, because let's face it: Sonic isn't perfect. Sure, it's got good elements, but how does that justify an entire game? I loved Sonic Generations 100%, but this game is bone cold to me because of the physics and speed boosters and whatnot. I tend to say a lot of Sonic games in the past 10 years were bad, and a lot of people agree with me... so, with that said, am I a retrof*g or am I a fan? :/

@GamerGuyd7Aces I totally agree, but if you want the gameplay to stay true to the originals then you should probably play the 3ds version, it sticks to side scrolling for the most part and plays really smooth.

I'm gonna be honest, when you hit the bumpers in the special stage, I almost thought the bumper was gonna go "PINGAS" like it did in BrainScratchComm's LP of it. Me, I loved the game! I don't care about the physics, the character design, or even the fact that there are only 4 main zones. I just played it because it was a fun Sonic game! And I can't wait for Episode II!

I like Sonic 04, i just hate how the special stages have a TIME COUNTER, so you need to worry about the "End Spheres" AND need to speed up because of the timer...man, i lost 3 chances to get a chaos emerald 'cause of the damned timer. :/

My opinion on Sonic 4 ep 1 is similar to yours. I don't care that they used modern Sonic but I do think the way Classic Sonic played in Sonic Generations is how Sonic 4 should have played. My biggest physics peeve is the uncurling which forces the homing attack which developers promised was optional. I do prefer the Sonic 4 Super Sonic because at least he wasn't nerfed and I'm guessing you were talking about Mad Gear Zone act 2 when you mentioned a song you liked?

Like most people mention, the physics weren't great, but I don't think it was bad enough to ruin the game. Also, IMO, the level design in this game is pretty poor. Finally, the soundtrack it's actually decent. It was just an alright game. =(

I think people hate on sonic episode 4 because of how it looks, I mean seeing Modern Sonic like that is weird. It doesn't feel "sonic-like." Most people, (like me) like Classic sonic to stay in his 2D worlds and Modern Sonic in his 3D worlds. A crossover seems really weird, especially with Modern Sonic being in so many 3D worlds; Or at least, that's what I think.

Complaining about physics is a fair reason to hate a good chunk of the game. Since, y'know, physics have to do with GAMEPLAY. If you hate the physics, you're probably gonna hate the game, and the level design really does not compliment these shitty physics, in my mind. I love the music though, except for Casino Street. But worst Sonic game ever? Hah. Funny. Didn't know Sonic 06 or Unleashed or Black Knight suddenly got their names change to Sonic 4.

The reason people complained about the physics is because it's supposed to be the sequel to Sonic 3 (and Knuckles) and we were told it would play like the classics, which was a blatant lie on SEGA's part. People were disappointed by this, which partially carried over to when Sonic Generations came out, like if Classic Sonic would play right.
