  • Someday I will live in Effington.

  • 2:19 - 2:30 is my favorite part of this whole album.

  • A genius at work - looking forward to London gig - can't f*ckin wait!

  • those are temple blocks not woodblocks...

  • funny thing is, i have been to effington many times. hahaha

  • EFFING LOVE HIM.

  • their is also an Effingham in leatherhead Surry.

  • please use some level of interpretation.....perhaps inspired by a funny city name, but don't miss the point of such an inspirational song to artists.........

  • i am proud to say i live in Effingham

  • Ah I love these live versions. Whoever was in charge of mixing the record COMPLETELY RUINED IT!

  • there's an actual effington, in illinois, I listened to this exact song on my way to nashville once, i loved it

  • @zela5286 i know I eff in all those places! :P

  • The tambourine man amuses me.

  • @zela8526 Southeastern Illinois, about an hour from Indiana and an hour and a half from St. Louis, I got a speeding ticket there and got pissed off and started blasting this song afterwards

  • actually, he's referring to effingHAM. he skrewed up and got the name wrong though. he admitted it too. hahaha...

  • i live in the town this song is about

  • yea i live there but it isnt called effington he is making it out to be way much more than it is it is small and gay

  • It sounds like at 1:47 there must be some overdubbing on the final version of the song, cuz on my album there is some background voices and at the end of the section there is a china cymbal. :)

  • I don't think this is the recording you hear on the album. Pretty sure this was just for this video. I don't think Ben has recorded live since WEAEA.

  • He looks like Austin Powers now! <333 I loove him

  • If there's a god, he's laughing at us and our football team.

  • @scoop2230 he is refering to the like 150 foot cross right as u enter the town oh and the team is the flaming hearts

  • @scoop2230 yeah their mascot is the flaming hearts. Its so gay

  • i want to live... IN EFFINGTON!

  • IN EFFINGTON!!!

  • @vavavavaner no u dont...

  • Anyone know what pedal makes the bass sound like that?

  • Not entirely sure of his exact setup, but I've heard several people say he uses an electro-harmonix Big Muff Pi. I use one on my bass and can almost exactly replicate it. Crank the volume, sustain and tone pretty high.

  • I think those are temple blocks actually.

Anyway, it's cool to see the studio performance.

  • this song sounds like Christmas

  • @blzke I got that sensation when I heard Leather Jacket, myself.

  • i live in bloomington/normal illinois !!

  • That they are!

  • Actually, they're Granite Blocks, not Wood Blocks.

  • "woodblocks are sweet" that cracked me up

  • Ben's voice had some weird compression in the record, so it's good to hear his raw voice here.

  • i'm from effingham!! or "effington"

  • What I love about this is that when alot of bands play live, they simply cant replicate the polished version off the album. This is honestly near identical to the album version. So few discrepancies

  • dont diss the football team

  • yes wood blocks r sweet. I got 3 of them on my drum set:) Ben folds is awsome!

  • thanks for uploading this buddy!

  • I found it ironic that it's in the key of "eff" (atleast it starts out that way)

  • lol thats more than likely the point.

    ben folds is awesome=]

  • Lol, nice!

  • @Hullywood11m Ha! Never noticed that, you're right.

  • @Hullywood11m coincidental, not ironic :)

  • @TheCodyWalker I suppose you're right.

  • For some reason I enjoy this version much more than the one found on the actual album. It just seems very raw yet Ben's voice sounds perfect. Love it.

  • Ben Folds is amazing

  • who cares if its a real place? Why do people argue over youtube? Is there really that much lack of excitement in your lives that you have to come on here to be dicks. Who cares if Effington exists or not? Its an amazing song that should be praised not made into an arguement. Grow up!

  • wow. amazing

  • *sings*

Sorry. I'm from Normal IL originally (Woohoo ISU Redbirds!) and um, now I live close to Effingham. :)

So i get both sides of the video. Oh and to the foreign person who posted we're thick - Ya know that goes both ways right? LOL

  • yay! he wrote this on the way to my college in Normal IL! yeah ISU!!! effington, effingham, same difference. its not like there are a lot of people who live in effingham to get offended

  • I live in Effingham Illinois. If you drive by it on the interstate there is a Gigantic Cross that over looks our football stadium. Our mascot is the flaming hearts. Inside the town is a very rustic old school movie theater. So I pretty much think they are talking about Effingham IL.

  • It is about Effingham. He said it at his last concert in Chicago.

  • lol i lookekd it up on google maps. theres an effingHAM illinois and an effingTON in minnesota =P

  • The song is about Effingham. Ben used his artistic license and changed it a bit.

  • he did't do it on purpose,,, he just wrote the song on stage and remembered the name of the town wrong. he said later he wondered why there wasnt a huge response from the crowd from effington/effingham.

  • @goshoops23

Although there is a city called Effington...

  • @goshoops23 Effington is a township in Minnesota... OR you could totally be right since Effingham is in Illinois...

  • There is a town in Ilinois called Effingham, which is where this song is based on. So before you decide to call US thick, please do your research first.

  • Read the post below by 'Boilersfan1' - Perhaps you Effinghams ARE getting excited about nothing after all.

  • I'm not from Effingham NOR Effington. I'm from Montclair, NJ. Way to assume.

  • @quatfro wow.... Idiot coming from SC 49th lowest state education wise

  • @ImFromFlorence What are you trying to say?

  • @quatfro You said Americans are stereotypically stupid, I'm from South Carolina in America, South Carolina happens to be 49th ranked in education. Even I'm vastly more intelligent than you

  • @quatfro I'm sick of foreign assholes like you. Just because the majority of Americans are dumb asses doesn't mean we all are. In other words, FUCK YOU!

  • @ZeGuyFly Well, since you started it - Go fuck yourself!

Old story. I can't believe this bullshit is still going on, I really didn't care that much in the first place and I really couldn't give a fuck now. If it was so obviously Effingham, why didn't he just leave it like that? It rolls off the tongue just as smoothly and would be far more appropriate to the town he was singing about - it makes no sense...it's like writing a song about Swansea and calling it Cardiff!!!

    Daft as a brush.

  • @quatfro Dumb as a brick.

  • I've lived in Effingham my whole life and I never knew this song existed until today. . . For some reason I can not get over the fact that Ben Folds actually wrote a song about this crumby town. He even mentioned the cross which is how everyone around here knows the town. And its even better that you can tell he is being sarcastic about how great of a place it is.

  • My school's a'cappella group, Passing Notes, performed this. It was amazing.

  • My school's group, the Midnight Ramblers, did it, too! Haha

  • I heard your guys' version of 'Army' on the University A Cappella album. Nice job no doubt.

  • i live in normal illinois..it's pretty cool..

but yea i love this song.

  • This song completely owns me. The first time I heard it, I fell in love. Thank you sooooo much for posting this. I've been searching everywhere for a good video of this to show to my friends.

  • i love ben folds!

  • I had no idea these guys were so good. I only knew the name, from most of a decade ago

  • LOVE IT!! Omg. I live in Effingham!! (Mistakenly called effington) this is awesomee! We are a tiny town, but we have the worlds largest cross, the 2009 United states teacher of the year and now a song by ben folds. Awesome. We are moving up in the world. Haha

  • Is it really as wonderful as the song makes it out to be?This has become my theme song ,as of late, and I really want to get the hell outta Orange Park FL.

  • Lol, I'm from Orange Park, FL. Who is this?

  • I drove through Effingham on my way to Indy last year... Couldn't believe there was an actual town (with a water tower no less) called Effimgham... Nice.

  • Yeah! It's actually a very rapidly developing town. It's nice, quite small, but i think it's a pretty good place to grow up in. =]

  • wow! great! i love ben folds
