i feel sad.Is it true that people are still there trapped ? I really feel sad.Why dont there break down the ship slowly and remove the cropses ? I mean with todays technology it would be easy.Has anyone ever been inside before ?
@rasboi First, this a National Memorial and nothing can or should be removed. Secondly there are no corpses. Salt water has long since dissolved anything organic. The only things left are the bones. Third, because the ship is so unstabled due to the corrosion divers are only allowed in far enough to inter the remains of any survivors. The only things allowed inside are ROV's which are used to monitor the deterioration of the ship. The sailors died the way they wanted. With their beloved ship.
the bodies of the soldiers are still in there for 60 years???? why havent they tried to pull them out?? or tried to pull out the whole battleship.... peace by peace ... its not like its 5 km under the water ... its been there for 60 years .. everyone can see it! i just can't understand this ... its scary! :S
@Chelsea7077 It is clear you have no understanding of history or tradition. This a revered site, a MEMORIAL to all who served, fought, and died. One day you will have go there to understand. Don't let the movie Pearl Harbor cloud your judgement. It is nothing but a glorified love story, Tora, Tora, Tora is much accurate and will give you more insight to the American emotion at the time. Also read my reply to rasboi. I was in the Navy stationed at Pearl. I saw the memorial every day.
The US Navy confiscated both the SS LURLINE Ship's Log AND the Radio Messages Log, both of which have since disappeared... in spite of the actual Navy Records showing their confiscation.
However, the SS LURLINE's Radio Operator had made duplicate copies for himself BEFORE reporting them to the US NAVY, and it is those copies on which "DAY OF DECEIT" is based.
n November, 1941, the Ship's Radio Operator of the SS LURLINE (Luxury Cruise Ship out of Hawaii... other was the SS MATSONIA... both of MATSON NAVIGATION of HAWAII) monitored the Radio Messages from/to the IJN Attack Fleet and Tokyo, which were so powerful and sent so many times repeatedly, that he was able to easily DF (Direction Find) the IJN Fleet's location over a period of time (heading for HAWAII), and reported it to the US NAVY upon his returning back to port in Hawaii.
Both Kimmel and Short were blamed for the PH Attack, made scapegoats, charged with "DERELICTION OF DUTY", each BUSTED ONE-STAR, and FORCED INTO EARLY RETIREMENT... ending their Military Careers.
Both denied all charges.
Both are now dead.
To this day, "W" refuses to reverse their convictions, restore their former Ranks, and their former "Good Names", in spite of Both Houses of Congress agreeing to it.
That question was answered in October, 2000, during the presidency of Bill Clinton, who signed into Law, with the support of a bipartisan Congress, the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) that reversed the findings of nine previous Pearl Harbor investigations, and found that both Kimmel and Short were deliberately denied the crucial intelligence ON ORDERS OF FDR.
"DAY OF DECEIT" goes through McCollum's secret memo dated October 7, 1940 [obtained via FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)], a proposal that called for Eight Provocations aimed at Japan.
It also speaks of foreknowledge of the attack by President Roosevelt and U.S. military officials.
Was US Admiral Husband Kimmel, Navy Commander of Hawaii, and US General Walter Short, Army Commander of Hawaii, denied crucial U.S. military intelligence that tracked Japanese Naval Forces advancing on Hawaii?
He speaks the truth in away. The Jap envoy in DC was suppose to declare war 15 minutes before the attack, but their own code was so complicated the envoy didn't have it translated tell after the attack began.
The Arizona blew up in half when a aerial torpedo hit the magazine room (ammo storage) it blew it up it sank entombing 1,100 of her sailors the turrets were removed (the big sockets in the ship) and used for the cost guard defense I bet the ship is haunted.
the arizona memorial is a beautiful place there on oahu in hawaii , i ought to know ... i was there 23 yrs ago , hawaii is the most beautiful state . i would reccomend any 1 who has the time and money to go to hawaii and c for urself

Its the front end.

Dragon, the bow is the term for the front of a vessel. Stern is the rear, Port is left side, starboard is right side. Midships is the middle.
