  • Thanks for the demo, I got a Rat BH15 this week, can't believe how good it is, lovely little amp

  • A few leads would of been nice :D Good demo dude, it sounds great.

  • Hey, Thanks for the help guys.

Okay, i have a Verb rack unit this is why i asked. It sounds sort of okay in front but its designed to put in the loop.

I do have a Crate Powerblock with an effects loop but of course thats SS not valve. Is there any way to place the verb rack in between the two amps. Is this a viable option?.. if so what would the signal flow be

Should add that i have a Palmer pd-03 powersoak too.

With my inexperience i dont like to just hook things up, without knowing its okay.

  • Nice work..

I,m still on the learning curve with electric guitars and amps... maybe you can answer a couple of Q,s

    Are the Humbuckers PAF?

Does it really matter not having an "Effects Loop" in one of these modded amps by Andy.

I have the Dual Output model with line out and no room to put in an Effects Loop..

    Thanks

  • effects loop only matters if you want to use it lots of effects like reverb and delay, but most of the time they can go in front of the amp no problem anyway.

  • The pups are stock Gibson SG humbuckers, 490, 498. The effects loop, as already mentioned, is necessary only if you need a time effect (reverb, delay etc)

  • @dmihos Often they work fine though. Reverb can be in normal loop and it will usually sound great.

  • how much is it for one of these?

  • About 250GBP off ebay

  • really good wayto demo an amp... i have an rc-2 and an old plexi that i want to demo the range. just might steal your idea with your permission!

  • Changed preamp tube today, and now my amp sounds very similar to the sound from your clip.

Also Powerscaling works well after change of the 12ax7 tube. I figure the preamp tube had been damaged by shipping abuse during it's way from UK to Sweden.

Thanks a lot for sharing settings.

    Cheers

  • Since you didn't comment it I suppose you used PS1 powerscaling as well?

  • Hi, thanks for quick response.

I'm using humbuckers and PS1 mode.

I have altered between standard neck humbucker

at an Ibanez RG150, and bridge humbucker Seymour Duncan Invader.

Did you use any effect/pedal in front of amp?

  • No, just the guitar through the RC2 through the amp, no effects.

  • I forgot to ask, do you use any overdriving pedal, or are you plugged straight into amp?

  • Hi, I got my modded BH5H from Andy this Friday. It's the one with dual output tubes (EL84 or 6L6) and tube rectifier.

I have not managed to get a good sounding overdriven sound at all, like yours at 1:20 for example. Please, which master and powerscale setting did you have had at 1:20?

When I turn Powerscaling down to a level possible to talk over , the amp sounds terrible unless I turn master/volume down til it gets clean.

I'm starting to think something is wrong with the amp, or maybe me...

  • What pickups does your guitar have? Single coils or humbuckers? What PS setting are you using? PS1 or PS2?

I use humbuckers. At 1.20, volume is less than half way (11 o'clock), master volume is almost fully cranked, and power scaling about 9 o'clock.

Experiment with these 3 knobs, I'm sure you'll nail a good sound.

Bear in mind btw that I changed the tubes almost as soon as I got the amp, but the stock ones weren't that bad, they were OK.

  • puch625, with London Power Scaling you SHOULD reduce the gain, or on this amp the volume setting, to preserve your tone as you make use of the power scaling feature. Demos and literature of the Suhr Badger 18 explain this. Since you are essentially reducing the power of your amp, it will break up much sooner...that's the whole idea behind power scaling...great tube breakup at low volumes. The power scaling and gain controls, or on this amp the volume, SHOULD be used together.

  • ευχαριστώ!

Do you have a tip concerning the speaker one should use? I mean: What determines if the sound on low power settings doesn't sound too thin?

  • Does power scale ruin the output tubes?

  • what is the difference between the power scaling and just lowering the master volume?

  • The master volume acts on output tube. The power scaling though comes after the output tubes which allows you to have the master volume cranked up. This pushes the output tube hard and produces the so called power amp distortion which is very different than the preamp distortion (which is so common on all amps). This thing really works, you can really crank it and still speak over it. You simply cannot have the master volume on 10 on any other amp, not even these small 5W ones.

  • That sounds REALLY good.I have one still totally stock, untouched.I'm thinking EFX loop mod would be great on this amp.Yours sounds supercharged....nice !

  • that sounded pretty good - arund 1.00 you seem to have it down pretty quite but the growl is still there. What cab are you running it through?

  • It's an Egnater 1x12, celestion V30 loaded

  • Sounds great.

  • I just got mine in and love it. I have the one with the 6l6 tube and rectifier tube. Killer tone!

  • Great idea with the Boss RC2, shows it off well. Andy does some great mods to these amps.
