Gerry learned Irish himself as it was not thought in schools in the north up until very recently (and still only as an option).
Secondly, no the Greens are not an all-Ireland party. They have The Green Party and the Green Party NI. Although they cooperate they are separate entities. So what if the SDLP have links to Labour??? That doesn't make them the same party. SF have links to Batasuna and the SNP. That doesn't make them the same party.
Rubbish. I live in Belfast, and all my relatives (most of whom are well into their 50s now in belfast/armagh/larne/lderry/antrim) learned Irish way back when, and it wasnt optional for some of them. The situation is far more complex that the picture you paint. Most schools dont offer it, few make it compulsory, and all who do, usually for no more than 3 yrs.
The Greens brand themselves differently N/S, but is an all-Ireland org theres no denying that, and theres northern representation on their national executive. Fair play on the sdlp/labour 1. Though, bringing us back to the point initially raised (ie. the fact Gerry cannont speak Irish), bein self-taught is no excuse. He's makin a party broadcast, 2 b aired on tv. Cop on. He either put no effort in @ all, which isnt gd, or thats the best effort he made, which simply isnt gd enuf.
Either he learns it properly, or he shouldnt missuse it! Tá sé ag tabhairt drochainm dúinn uilig! Do you seriously think that ppl cant speak the language if they havent been school taught? mgl thn. creid leat.
can't speak it. missusing it. bringing bad name to it. should stop it. though, undoubtably wont.
i'd encourage anyone to learn the language. many who try do it very well. some try and unfortunately it doesn't click - there's nothing wrong with that. but it comes problematic when ur trying to issue a PEB
fair enough, but i prefer to be able to understand a politician, in either language, without having to figure out what they're trying to say. it should be clear. with him, it isn't. it comes accross as lazy or ignorant, but in either case, definitely unprofessional
... and people ppl subsequently find it difficult to understand what ur saying. Many people in SF (and other political parties) have great irish. others dont, inc gerry. who does he missuse the language? i hope someone's told him.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that now because of the election Gerry Adams is the rep for Shankill Road? Maybe somebody who lives in Belfast could help me with this question.
well if he lost that riding he would not be a member of the legislative i think but still part of the executive. Im not sure, but that is how it is in Canada and the parliament there.
For example, when Maskey was Mayor of Belfast isn't he then considered to be responsible for the interests and welfare of ALL of the sections of the city.
Maith thú Sinn Féin Abú. Tá repbulican Sinn Féin brónach níl siad ag dul áit ar bith agus na bí ag votáil SDLP níl siadsan ag dul áit ar bith.Mar sin de Vótail Sinn Féin
why would anybody not vote for Sinn Féin? This new republican Sinn Féin party is a load of crap! only sad people would want Ireland to return to conflict! Sinn Féin will see the unification of Ireland through peacful means!
My friend Linda moved to Ireland and now works for SF in Waterford. I met the Kevin Cullilane (I think I spelled the name wrong.). In any case I was impressed with Kevin and pray that he enters the Dail. Vota Sinn Fein, o do cara in Philadelphia. Beir Bua!!
gerry can't speak irish properly - grammar, pronunciation, and occassionally syntax are woefully misapplied
and sinn féin is the only all-Ireland party ?!?!
have they not heard of the Greens?
plus there's links between the sdlp and the southern labour party
sin féin - nul point
