Wow. I cannot imagine doing this intentionally. It must be nice to know you can handle this type of situation should you find yourself in an emergency spin situation. Well done.
@duslan Hey! Hope your flying career is progressing nicely. Curious as to how well a C172 handles a spin. When I did my CFIA spin cert in 1982 we used a C152 which is pretty docile in left side spins. Right side a bit more interesting but even there the plane will pretty much recover on its own if you release the controls.
I haven't flown in years and was thinking of getting current. Not even sure what's being used for trainers these days. Cheers!
In a barrel roll you are still flying the plane as opposed to a spin where the airspeed indicator reads 0. Hence you are not flying because both wings are completely stalled.
I think you are describing a flat spin. This is another type of spin which is very difficult (maybe even impossible) to recover from! You would certainly NEVER try a flat spin in flight training!
A spin is characterized by two completely stalled wings.
@duslan - Forgot to mention great job on your spin work. Looks like you took right to it. Give a high-five from me to your instructor if you would. I was laughing like hech watching the smiles on his face and the great composure. Looks like he's an ace of an instructor. Right at home in the right seat! Cheers!
This is a great video for sure. Takes me back to the early 1980's when I a charter pilot and CFIA/I.
I thought I was going to lose my lunch the first time I did one with my instructor when I started into my CFIA training in 1982. They become rather fun after you've done few. The ones to the right side are the best! ;_) Oh yahhhh!
No offense to pilots here in what I'm about to say but no wonder my grandfather (a WWII veteran) mentioned that the fighter pilots were so cocky, lol. Look at all the cool stuff they did in combat and out and survived. I would be cocky too.
Well.... the plane in which i am supposed to be training in had some damage done to it in a windstorm last winter, so i haven't been able to fly in it. However, I have been flying a local airlines planes for some time now. I have about five unrecorded hours at the moment. so i am a newbie. ANd i am travleing for the summer so i have been studying for my written exam... so it might be a bit until i can post movies. ^^
God! You are amazing! I am going through flight training too and now you have me hoping that i can get my instructor to show me a spin! ^^ Keep it up! I want to see more vids form you!
14CFR 61.183(i)(1) says that in order to receive a CFI certificate you have to receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor indicating that the applicant is competent and possesses instructional proficiency in stall awareness, spin entry, spins, and spin recovery procedures after providing ......
Spin awareness is part of regular flight training, that means you show the student an incipient spin. If a student wants to spin I would be happy to show him ... I love spinning! ;-)
I've spent my fair share of time in the air over the California coastline (as a passenger). I was like "either my eyes are deceiving me, or that's Tank Farm rd. running right in front of that airstrip on final approach." Too funny.

Good video. Spins are fun, I remember the time my instructor put me in one for the first time.
AjaxBU 2 years ago
that´s not a spin, is a barrel roll towards the earth
diogogcgraca 2 years ago
nope, what you are seeing in this ideo is a spin.
In a barrel roll you are still flying the plane as opposed to a spin where the airspeed indicator reads 0. Hence you are not flying because both wings are completely stalled.
duslan 2 years ago
ok but in a normal spin (i already did it) you turn in relation to the vertical axis also, here i just see like a barrel roll towards down.
greetings

I haven't done spins with my instructor yet, but they do look like a lot of fun =]
Only problem is that the 152 that i usually fly was black carded so you can't do any intentional spins with it.
I'll have to check the other 152 or use one of the 172's haha

It largely depends on you! It took me about 8 weeks but I have a friend who completed his training in 21 days.

What's the point of a spin endorsement?
JManGuitar5150 2 years ago
To make cool videos! :-)
Well and besides that it teaches you how to recover from a spin. So if a student pilot gets you into trouble you know how to get out of a spin.
duslan 2 years ago
Oh, okay. But does a spin endorsement enable you to fly a certain way or something similar?
JManGuitar5150 2 years ago
no, not really. It is for the purpose of knowing how to recover from an unintentional spin.
If you want to do aerobatics you might want to do a specific course for that.
duslan 2 years ago
but isn't that just included in ur flight training?
nenarnenar 2 years ago
No. Spin awareness is part of the regular flight training but it does not include a spin endorsement.
However if a student wants to spin, I am down for it! ;-)
