  • Wow. I cannot imagine doing this intentionally. It must be nice to know you can handle this type of situation should you find yourself in an emergency spin situation. Well done.

(PPL - Student Pilot 12 hrs. dual)

  • thumbs up! i just found my favourite flying video on youtube, this is awesome..

-PPL student doing advanced stalls tomorrow - next lesson will be spins.

  • I love the smile on the instructor's face!

  • eh.. well not a really serious looking spin, almost controlled the entire time it loks like. but i'm no expert so i'm prolly wrong xD

just made 11 hours in the DA-20

  • no, you are right, I only spun it 2-3 times max.

    I didn't want to overstress the A/C. :-p

  • @duslan Hey! Hope your flying career is progressing nicely. Curious as to how well a C172 handles a spin. When I did my CFIA spin cert in 1982 we used a C152 which is pretty docile in left side spins. Right side a bit more interesting but even there the plane will pretty much recover on its own if you release the controls.

I haven't flown in years and was thinking of getting current. Not even sure what's being used for trainers these days. Cheers!

  • whats the first song called?

  • its tomorrow by sr-71

  • What airport is this? Its beautiful?

  • it's beautiful San Luis Obispo (KSBP)

  • im gonna start flying with sunglasses now lol

  • you should! makes spotting traffic a whole lot easier!

  • Good video. Spins are fun, I remember the time my instructor put me in one for the first time.

  • that´s not a spin, is a barrel roll towards the earth

  • nope, what you are seeing in this ideo is a spin.

In a barrel roll you are still flying the plane as opposed to a spin where the airspeed indicator reads 0. Hence you are not flying because both wings are completely stalled.

  • ok but in a normal spin (i already did it) you turn in relation to the vertical axis also, here i just see like a barrel roll towards down.

    greetings

  • I think you are describing a flat spin. This is another type of spin which is very difficult (maybe even impossible) to recover from! You would certainly NEVER try a flat spin in flight training!

A spin is characterized by two completely stalled wings.

  • I haven't done spins with my instructor yet, but they do look like a lot of fun =]

Only problem is that the 152 that i usually fly was black carded so you can't do any intentional spins with it.

I'll have to check the other 152 or use one of the 172's haha

  • when did you start taking pilot classes?

  • I started training in october 2005 and got my PPL on 12/14/2005. :-)

  • Hello, how long does it take to get your private licence?

  • It largely depends on you! It took me about 8 weeks but I have a friend who completed his training in 21 days.

  • @duslan - Forgot to mention great job on your spin work. Looks like you took right to it. Give a high-five from me to your instructor if you would. I was laughing like hech watching the smiles on his face and the great composure. Looks like he's an ace of an instructor. Right at home in the right seat! Cheers!

  • Thank you! I will tell him!! :-)

(and you are right, he is an amazing instructor!!)

  • This is a great video for sure. Takes me back to the early 1980's when I a charter pilot and CFIA/I.

I thought I was going to lose my lunch the first time I did one with my instructor when I started into my CFIA training in 1982. They become rather fun after you've done few. The ones to the right side are the best! ;_) Oh yahhhh!

  • Great video! I can't wait to start my flight training. This is definitely my favorite spin video I've seen so far.

  • Thanks!

  • man i have to do my spin this week...so scared :O

  • Don't be scared. You have more reason to fear driving to the airport.

  • Don't be scared! It's soooooo much fun! You will love it!!

  • so, where u have your school?

  • Nice video duslan!

  • i always feel like my balls are going to come out of my mouth when i do these....

    :0. lol

  • and that's a good thing!! :-)

  • What's the point of a spin endorsement?

  • To make cool videos! :-)

Well and besides that it teaches you how to recover from a spin. So if a student pilot gets you into trouble you know how to get out of a spin.

  • Oh, okay. But does a spin endorsement enable you to fly a certain way or something similar?

  • no, not really. It is for the purpose of knowing how to recover from an unintentional spin.

If you want to do aerobatics you might want to do a specific course for that.

  • but isn't that just included in ur flight training?

  • No. Spin awareness is part of the regular flight training but it does not include a spin endorsement.

However if a student wants to spin, I am down for it! ;-)

  • Very Cool good times

  • Awesome video

  • i have the same headset as the pilot on the left haha

  • yeah the H20-10 is the best! that's what I have now too! :-)

  • No offense to pilots here in what I'm about to say but no wonder my grandfather (a WWII veteran) mentioned that the fighter pilots were so cocky, lol. Look at all the cool stuff they did in combat and out and survived. I would be cocky too.

By the way I am a new student pilot.

  • It sure looks like it! I got excited just watching your movie!

  • Well I am looking forward to seeing your video soon! :-)

How far away from your check ride are you?

  • Well.... the plane in which i am supposed to be training in had some damage done to it in a windstorm last winter, so i haven't been able to fly in it. However, I have been flying a local airlines planes for some time now. I have about five unrecorded hours at the moment. so i am a newbie. ANd i am travleing for the summer so i have been studying for my written exam... so it might be a bit until i can post movies. ^^

  • where do u live?

  • I live in Germany but the video was shot in San Luis Obispo, CA (KSBP)

  • God! You are amazing! I am going through flight training too and now you have me hoping that i can get my instructor to show me a spin! ^^ Keep it up! I want to see more vids form you!

  • Thank you! I think if you ask your instructor he will definitely show you how to spin!

Believe me it's sooooooo much fun!!

  • how do you get the radio com on the video

  • I just hooked the stereo jack of my video cam to the intercom! :-)

  • Do you actually get an endorsement for spins? I thought it was just part of flight training no matter what?

  • 14CFR 61.183(i)(1) says that in order to receive a CFI certificate you have to receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor indicating that the applicant is competent and possesses instructional proficiency in stall awareness, spin entry, spins, and spin recovery procedures after providing ......

Spin awareness is part of regular flight training, that means you show the student an incipient spin. If a student wants to spin I would be happy to show him ... I love spinning! ;-)

  • where'd you get those sick shades?

  • those are Ray Ban's (RB3341) and I got them in Spain! :-)

  • nice video,my robin hr200 is not spin approved!!

  • the hr200 is still a really cool plane! even if you can't spin it! ;-)

  • I'm from South Africa, we get our spin endorsements when doing our PPL. I had a spin lesson at about 8hours.

    Awesome Video though Bud !!

  • Thank you!!

  • why don't they teach them for PPL? it seems quite important to know how to recover from a spin, no?

  • You are right. If a student would ask me to show him how to spin I would do it. :-)

  • fun, fun, fun....I like spin training.

  • What aircraft is that in?

  • it's a 172.

  • GOOD OLD TIMES FOR ME.(1981)

  • I love spins :)

  • what song is that?

  • SR-71 - Tomorrow

    Blur - Song2

    U2 - Beautiful Day

  • Awesome video. Great flying! Good work.

  • Thank you!!

  • Ahhh.....good times... Ever do that in a Decathlon?

    It's like driving a Ferrari in 3D.

  • No! unfortunatelly i never had the chance to fly a decathlon!! :-(

  • I KNEW THERE WAS I REASON THAT LOOKED FAMILIAR! I live in Paso Robles.

  • no kidding!? And you recognized the coastline?? that's impressive!!

  • I've spent my fair share of time in the air over the California coastline (as a passenger). I was like "either my eyes are deceiving me, or that's Tank Farm rd. running right in front of that airstrip on final approach." Too funny.

  • Where was this shot? The coastline looks very familiar.

  • The most beautiful place in the world: San Luis Obispo, CA
