Beautiful video. I am privileged enough to be able to build these magnificent planes, and it gives me goose bumps when I see videos like this. Makes me feel really good when our customers come into the factory and tell us how much they are looking forward to getting their planes. Thanks for sharing!
@VisionOfFlight I don't think there's a single runway in the world that doesn't have dips or waves. Perfectly normal, esp. when combined with telephoto/zoom lenses at a very-narrow-angle vantage point.
lol. I'm surprised the escorting Spitfires are keeping up with the Dreamliner. (They are Spitfires right? The shape of the wing agrees with my knowledge of the Spitfire.)
THE ENGINE LIGHT IS DESIGNED IN THE SAME WAY AS WHEN PIA INITIALLY INTRODUCED AND FLEW THEIR 747 100/200 SERIES AIRCRAFT. HOW COOL IS IT TOO SEE THAT EVEN IN THE NEWEST OF AIRCRAFT'S SUCH AS THE 787 THERE ARE ELEMENTS WHICH ILLUSTRATE THAT OLD IS STILL GOLD
@UpInUrAss It's actually composite, not plastic. Perhaps Boeing would consider painting the plane day glow orange and circling all the windows with neon lights. Maybe then it would appeal to discerning types such as yourself.
@UpInUrAss correction... reinforced carbon fiber composite materials. get the facts before you go off on something you couldnt build. btw im 14 so how bout that up in your ass!
@StupidityPlus I don't mean to defend that guy, but technically speaking it is Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. And there is a LOT of plastic on this plane.
@UpInUrAss I would feel safer on a plastic plane buildt by boeing, that a plane you buildt in solid aluminium dude! That plane is buildt in composite material....
@ollo1982 you know the huge difference between metal and composite when overloaded ? metal bends a bit more, composite breaks off, no room for error, when the wing starts to crack, it's for good. Keep flying on your Boeing plastic plane
@UpInUrAss dude come on... first of all an airline wont overlaod a pax flight due to the safety of the pax... second, the 787 can take much more load than what boeing tells in their 787 stats... you do know that the Airbus A350 will be buildt in the exact same material :) soon you need to just stay home, because you cant fly on a plastic plane like you called it... after 787 and A350,most new planes with a new design will be buildt in that material... it's just as safe!!!
Hail to the Spitfire! Lot of symbolism there - American and Britain together - The Spitfire was designed, built and skillfully piloted by the British and funded by the Americans. A partnership that continues today.
The wings dont flex as much in the 787 cause its made up of over 50% composite materials,, the flexing that you THOUGHT you saw are the actual wings in their normal state.
This is a really nice view of the old and the new. The Spitfires were revolutionary in their time and I think the 787 is just as revolutionary with the composite construction.
It shows how quiet the 787 is too as the Spitfires are clearly audible.
boeing and airbusses are both great!!! the only problem with boeings steering system is that the yoke gets in the way so you cant sit the flight attendent on your lap
just a few hundred years ago or even a thousand years ago, THIS was thought to be impossible. SUCH A HEAVY piece of metal carrying hundreds of people, FLYING over OCEANS? incredible.
@Sonally4ever Only because you don't understand the design. Wing loading is something that must be dealt with. Watch head on views of take offs and you see that all jet wings flex in varying degrees depending on materials and design. AIr craft wings aren't super rigid by design. Like all modern jet liners, the use of composites have replaced metals in construction and flex differently. You want to see wings that really flex, watch a B-52 take off. and it's an all metal aircraft.
@GunBroker100 I've seen different airplanes with different wing flexes (including a B-52 at max gross weight), depending on the size and weight. And not once did I ever see any aircraft similar to the size of the 787 have their wings flex as much as it did on the 787.
@Sonally4ever Actually, the B-52 has a flex rate, at max take off, weight of about 12 feet at the wing tip. Especially considering the wings have to be supported on the ground. The 787 has elevated wings to start with, watching this roll out and rotation to take off, the wing flex does not appear severe. The design has passed all air worthiness and extreme service tests without issue for the design. I'm guessing it would not have been approved otherwise. The FAA is touchy about that
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner departed from Farnborough Air Show with takeoff on Runway 24 on July 20, 2011 and returned to Seattle. Nice touch with the escorting Spitfires from Duxford. Good camera control, thanks for posting.
@Dalmocavalcanti No they're not... I flew LHR to YHZ via YUL and return..... Boeing outbound, like a rattly old bus..... Airbus on the return was like a luxury limousine. Same operator each way...... I felt every bump in the Boeing...
@UpInUrAss Read my previous comment. If you can't spot the subtle sarcasm in it, there is nothing I can do for you. And how and why exactly is a Boeing 787 a "fucking ugly pile of junk"?
I'm really disappointed that every damn new plane that debuts looks almost identical to the last: Two engines on the wings. They all look like A-300 clones.
When a radical redesign of this stale template takes place, then I'll get excited
I actually think that is just an optical illusion. The wings are made of carbon fiber that will does not have flexible joints. that is one of the main concerns of the 787. It will not show stress and wear until it actually breaks so they never know when to work on it.
