It's amazing how young he was when he made this and the wonderful story behind it. So sad that he was poisioned in his early 20's. I've played that 78 a million times over the years but never learned to play it. And it certainly stands out for an old acoustical recording. Of course my 78 is really weatherbeaten and doens't sound anywhere near this good.

DAMN! This guy is even funkier than Bob Call!
He sounds so much like Cliff Jackson on his roll of "Hock Shop Blues" (composed by Spencer Williams, made for QRS in 1926).
He also sounds like Jimmy Blythe, although the right hand slides around more.
