First thing he is young. Second, there are many old teachers who did not have to pass state and federal exams. Lastly, some kids do not pay attention in class because some other kids are playing with them. Each community of kids act differently. I teach K to 6 and I have lots of funny and fun things to say and teach.

why did 5x=y-3 change to y=5x+3? Wouldn't you change it to y=5x-3??

@hotlilmac You're supposed to have Y by itself, in other words Y= ???? so since it's 5x=y-3 you add the 3 to both sides. It cancels out the minus 3 so you're left with y. 3 and 5x aren't common so you leave it as 5x+3=y or y=5x+3

Hm this must be something different than what's in my Precalculus book then. Lets say T = f(R) = R+1/4...the inverse of that is R = f-1(T) = 4T-1. And it T and R are not interchangeable. My line of thinking is to say that x and y are not interchangeable. Hmmm...
