Ok, so I see 5 months ago I last commented here that I was stuck at 23 with an occasional sub 20, well now I'm usually getting around 18 with the occasional sub 15 and still get some crappy 20's. I just want to break these stupid 20's for good GRRR. I like the sub 15's though. Why can't every solve be that good? Now I'm trying to work on CN.
You think it's common to have your average get worse after learning new f2l algorithms? My times have gotten worse since I started using more "fast ways to solve" rather than doing it the way that takes more moves but that I'm more used to. I was averaging around 45 sec with a rubiks brand, and then I bought a couple of DIYs and in like 3 days my average was down to 33-34 sec. Then after learning new f2ls I seem to only get worse times how ever I do it.
@Braz1121 hmm well its is normal to get slower at solving when you first learn something new. But if you've practiced a lot (at least a week) you'll probably start to get faster again.
Alright. I've tried this for a little while now, and I see an improvement over the last week. Before I tried this, I was at a 24 second average. And now I'm at a 23 second average on a eh day, a 22 second average on a normal day, and a 21 second average on a good day :)
So, this has dropped a full couple seconds of so :)
Thanks alot man, I`m working towars a sub 20 average now :D
Pretty much, my solves rely on only my cross...if it's good, then the solve is usually good. If it sucks, then my solve sucks. Thats because bad cross=bad transition into F2L=rough F2L all the way through=trying to rush through LL with faster TPS=more lock ups/pops=bad solve
@IPwnAllAndLeaveNone yes!!!! for me, that is exactly the case! most of time if I get a bad cross the rest of my solve suffers. awesome that you made that observation!
@pcwizcube - Yeah, I just seem to have a lot of trouble planning out every exact move of the cross. I usually get the basic idea and plan the first couple of moves, and then have to watch what I'm doing for the last few moves. I try to find the first pair during the last move. I never find it unless it's right there. My f2l look ahead is getting a little better, but I find that when I go slow, I tend to look slower as well. It's really frustrating. I get the occasional sub 20, but avg 23 ish.
@xxoxia yeah I have trouble with that too. there's a post on speedsolving forums by chris hardwick. he mentioned that it's easier to find pairs if you look for the corner piece first, then the edge. idk if that makes sense to you, but I tried it and it seems a lot easier to find pairs. maybe it'll work for you.
@pcwizcube - Yeah, that's usually what I do by default. Sometimes, what happens is I find a corner to one pair, then the edge to another, then I start looking for that corner, but I find the edge to the original pair, then I can't find the original corner, hahaha. I just can't figure out exactly how fast I have to turn to go slow enough to look ahead, yet still get 15 sec.
@xxoxia hmmm. one day I was doing really bad at F2L. and then I tried to do something else and I realized I was looking for a pair, then I'd see another pair when I wasn't even done looking for the first pair and thinking it was better and then like wasting time and stuff. I think it was slowing me down. then I started just to stay focused on the pair I'm looking at and not get distracted unless I see a really good one and it lowered my times a little.
@xxoxia Yea, I have that same stupid problem...slower solving=slower look ahead=no help... that's why I'm just going to use a metronome for a couple of months, do a move every time it beats, and try not to miss a beat...I'll just keep upping how many beats per min overtime. I guess its just finding the balance of speed and look ahead, because slow and fast does't work for me either...it has to be somewhere in the middle for lookahead
Man Nice tutorial and as well the F2l tutorial looking ahead. I watched both of them and I have managed to drop my cross + f2l average from like 18-19 secs to 12-15 secs. My overall average has dropped from 28 to 23. Thanks :D
@dishan1002002 I use a Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder to record my videos, that is usually mounted on a DX-TRP60 tripod that can reach a maximum height of 5 feet! After shooting my vidoes, I use Sony Vegas Platinum Edition 9 to edit them. (my channel description)
Quite a useful video, i would agree with you that it is important to know your entire cross solve before beginning, but hadn't considered finding F2L #1 at the same time!
With the corner tracking, I think it's a good technique to use when trying to improve the transition. But now, I usually see the first pair during inspection.
I can't make out the name of the person you suggested for the cross, could you please post it? good tutorial other than that

@hanzierbier My last layer takes about 5 seconds. I use 2 look OLL (I know 28 OLLs) and full PLL.
