While I applaud men and women who wish to live the life of an ascetic, the reality is that you end up hiding in a world that does not involve Christians living in a community and bringing them your faith. Want to bring Orthodoxy to the common man/woman? Have a healthy marriage, raise children tenderly, and discuss Orthodoxy in a polite and respectful manner with your local community. I have been contemplating monasticism for myself in a few years (I'm 16). when I told my mother about Orthodox Monasticism, she said she'd never let me do it. she also explained that the monastics are "selfish" for leaving the world behind, not having to deal with it's troubles." Amazing, we were both at st anthonys the same amount of time, 6 1/2 months. I was just a few years after you. Pater Chrysostomos disciples me rather than Paisios, I requested a lot of 1 on 1 time as I was learning all I could about the life. I enjoyed the dishwashing, and digging and planting the trees. I see a whole lot of people committing the worst sins of all in these comments, pride and judgement, ironic. It's YOUR story, they can turn it off. Jesus wept for Jerusalem, these throw stones.

No, I'm pretty sure I'm right. To be a heretic, you have to be first baptised Orthodox. You have to consciously make the decision to depart from the accepted doctrines of the Church to be a heretic. How can one who was never Orthodox leave doctrines that he never accepted in the first place? There are a lot of priests that I'm pretty sure would agree with me here. Further, the definition of heretic is neither Orthodox or unOrthodox however you define it, because it is not dogma.

There is a difference between heretics and schismatics. Both should be considered heretics, but the difference is that schismatics willingly chose to leave the Church and heretics were kicked out.

Additionally, I think to be a heretic you have to add or remove something from the Chrsitian Tradition (big T Tradition) to be a heretic, you can't merely leave the Church.

That depends on which protestant church you belong to. Theres so many 'denominations' out there, its important for me to know where to start. Concerning a starting point, there is no doctrine in the Church which is not essential to the Christian faith. Protestants tend to draw a line in the sand about what you must believe to be Christian. Orthodox don't draw a line, you have to accept everything that has been revealed to the Church as God gives you the capacity to know it.

There is noone of us having the right to advice you for this issue. It is one-way road if you go to a monastery. Orthodoxy has a very safe way to prevent people from going away after they are called monks. Please, please ask an orthodox priest face to face. If you tell him your thoughts, he knows how to manage with.

Of course I would reccomend checking out the Church of Santo Daime in Peru or Brazil... ayahuasca is like food for the soul and the roots community is still fresh and young, as far as Orthodoxy--the hard core are in Athos, but Elder Ephraim has set up around 20 monastaries in the U.S. and it seems paradoxical, but millions of dollars pour into his monastic account--It is leaving the rat race, but not the world... better yet, start your own little monastery.

But what I was going to suggest to you is to go to the Coptic Church that is Egyptian orthodox church. Two reasons why. @TheSacredHeart2, The charge of "schismatics" is slander from the Latin west. Apostasy is a falling away from the Church, not a See (Rome, in this case). Rome broke from the Church and initiated the division. There is no such thing as an office of papacy. No Church Fathers, Canons or Councils speak of an office of papacy. "I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic (not petrine) Church. The Church is built on all the apostles. The Latins are heretics and have changed the faith.
