  • This song is awesome not on acid.

  • I've never actually listened to Neurosis before. I am checking them out because I love Mastodon, and I have to say, I'm supremely impressed.

  • @cephirosik Check out Isis.

  • my shitty headphones just do not do this song justice at all

  • This kicks ass when you are tripping on acid

  • @katievoss08 everything does except cops and parents.

  • @katievoss08 *Tripping on acid kicks ass when you are listening to this

  • @katievoss08 Ya don't have to be trippin when listening to this ear orgy band, although, it certainly makes it better.

  • <3

  • A classic. One of my favorites.

  • Genial

  • E>^^<3

  • Enemy of the sun opened up a whole new world of amazing music for me, I was 13 and listened to slayer and anthrax, but not anymore... At 31 I'm still listening to neurosis! Music that withstands time and will always be beyond amazing

  • @TheKnives777 im 34 and still listen to Slayer. altho im starting to appreciate Sepultura more. lolllll...

  • @setlasmon I still play some old slayer from time to time, the epic sound of "reigning blood" and "seasons in the abyss" In fact I still own Seasons, it managed to withstand the loss and time of all my other records.

  • @TheKnives777 noice! too true.. their newer stuff tows the line pretty well but nothing can ever touch those classics. ive seen countless bands live but never caught Slayer despite them always being a fave. still on the bucket list. tho I am far too old and wise to venture into the pit!

  • Just discovered this band, now I feel slightly posessed by a force beyond all the boundaries of the world....I need a cigarrete and money to buy this record.

  • I love this band.they are 1 of the few metal bands, that when someone asks you what they sound like you say well....you just have to hear them for yourselves.Amazing, criminally underrated

  • @TheFara1979 i'm glad they're underrated. i wouldn't want them so well known that every teeny boppin' emo fag that goes into hot topic knows them.

  • *first

  • Giant middle finger toward the fist suggestion!

  • I fucking love the movie smples in songs!

  • Why is that shit Limb Bizkit in the suggestion bar?

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • Intro quote is from The Sheltering Sky novel by Paul Bowles. Too long to quote here but damn am I glad these guys put it in. Brilliant quote.

  • I can't get past the painfully long intros to find out if they suck or not. Ok, yeah, they're terrible. But that is some wicked artwork. It's sick. I like it. Too bad they suck.

  • @lildebi23 Go die troll

  • @lildebi23 if you are serious, just open a new tab and browse facebook or some shit while the song progresses

  • wow this is pritty deep cant totally make out what the songs about tho anybody know?

  • @cleezy653

Clicking on what? Your comment? So no-one should reply to you unless they really like you or something? :S

  • @cleezy653

You truly are the worst Youtube can produce.

  • What a piece of shit :D

  • @Hybridiot we know you are :D

  • @VladFerdinand1 - somehow I was wandering how this comment never got noticed :D

  • @Hybridiot By the :D at the end, we can all tell you're trollin' XD

  • 1# Neurosis song...next to Raze the Stray and Enemy of the Sun which is why easily this is the best album they have ever done. I read in an interview long ago from the bassist Edwardson this was supposed to be an EP but added more songs to get well past to the 30 minute mark. I"m glad they did. I originally bought this on tape then bought the cd which hated because of the long version of clense.

Then I learned they reissued this album and think it was remastered on their own labem and bought it

  • DOMINATION

  • 10 people would rather listen to Nickelback and play with themselves than listen to awesome metal like Neurosis.

  • THIS was one of the best albums of the 90's. I remember reading about these guys and then i found this album at a used CD store. Listened to about 2 minutes of this song and decided that was enough to buy it.

  • "Don't crawl seek his burn of war. When the fallout comes, he is fire" My eyes were jaded but now I see

  • My eyes were jaded, so close to the centre I could not seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

  • Love the beginning quote from The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles...

"Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don't know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It's that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. ..

  • Instant like! Thank you for the amazing song and the minimalist counterpoint of a single image. Love it!

  • fucking epic song!!!

  • When the distorted bass starts at 8:01, I just can think of it as the re-definiton of the word epic.

  • @0tacon Just epic defined.

  • i like the cover art......he's creepy that guy......

  • to see if your paying attention.........refering to the nickleback......in the year of the pig...what's that? I love trying to figure out the sample sources........ yeah...probably nickleback has enough stock in youtube to fuck shit up for you.......

  • the only place where it feels right writing something.i feel greatly inspired.in a strange way listening to neurosis erases all my fears.

  • Yes, Neurosis... I am lost...

  • why to compare mastodon to neurosis, hm?

  • Mastodon and Neurosis are brothers in amazingness, fucking get over it. Why does one have to be completely superior to the other?

  • The youngest son on Home Improvement was wearing a shirt with this album cover on it on the show once. Sweet Lord, this is...mainstream!

  • @maryperkins666 Yes, but we should be thankful for Mastodon, they are helping make a whole new generation of kids appreciate the sludge genera. Through Mastodon I found bands like Neurosis and Isis and the like.

  • mastodon is a bunch of hollow bullshit compared to this.

  • @maryperkins666

    exactly.

I mean Isis were good, but Neurosis are as intense as Converge, both are in my Top 5.

  • I'm discovering Neurosis...what a song!

  • if one song had to be chosen to show to an alien race this would be that song

  • Good deal..................

  • One of the best Neurosis albums in my opinion. So many amazing songs, so much great use of stereo and layering, so much shit to just drone out to....

  • One very cool thing about this band is that they are very good people with no egos. You can talk to anybody who knows them or has worked with them. Hearts of gold.

  • I discovered this band after I went into a now defunct local record shop and saw the souls at zero/enemy of the sun combo album with the ace artwork and bought it on a whim. I played the albums through back to back most of the day and just let it wash over me. Just so layered, dense and primal. Pure audio ejaculatons! lol

  • maybe the most underappreciated metal band of all time. it's a fucking travesty that these guys haven't gotten even a tenth of the recognition they deserve.

  • kinda reminds me of ozzy around the beginning.

  • this is ..........no words

  • GOD YES!!!!!!

  • Better than Mastodon

  • @linkinn18

    no kidding !!

  • @linkinn18 naaa man, mastodon took alot of influence from these guys, but mastodon rains over

  • @shredder731 I think what you meant to say was Mastodon ripped off their musical style and watered down any meaningfulness in order to sell posers like you records.

  • @GIMMEADOLLAR1 i'm not saying neurosis is bad, i thoroughly enjoy them, i'm just more into mastodon. and they didn't rip them of, they were just really heavily influenced by them, watch old interviews, they say it helped them write call of the mastodon/remission.

  • @GIMMEADOLLAR1 Give me a break. I own both Mastodon and Neurosis albums. They are both good bands.

  • one of my favorite albums.....

    great post!

  • why is there a nickelback song in the suggestion bar?

  • @b2e2c2c2a2 i was thinking the exact same thing, that and 3 doors down

  • @b2e2c2c2a2 i thought presicely the same thing. it took all my strength to not throw my computer. cuz its not her fault. but someone must pay.....

  • @b2e2c2c2a2 yahoo trying to encourage mediocrity and an adherence to all things obvious

  • @b2e2c2c2a2 That is actually worrying.

  • @b2e2c2c2a2 Idk, but nickelback provokes me more bad emotions than this music. derp.

  • wow the nickelback songs made it here too.

  • IN AND OUT OF THE STRAY!

  • why the hell does nickleback come up in the sidebar suggestions? i mean i know in reality someone listens to nickleback and neurosis so it says "oh well this person likes neurosis and also listens to nickleback so maybe you do to" but you would think computers would have enough A.I. by now to say NO NO NO! the dudes from neurosis could spray diarrhea on their guitar strings and make better music than nickleback.

  • This music makes me feel suicidal :P I'm not saying I don't like it, very epic, apocalyptic music. Not really my type of music I guess, but it's good.

  • wtf? why is youtube "suggesting" nickelback, when I'm hearing this?

  • Its funny ..we hate standard religous norms...but we KNOW there is somthing greater we can achive..be it by OUR means or somthing else.......

  • omg... the guy who says are you lost, he sounds like that narrator from whinnie the pooh, anyone else realise that? like this is an incredible song but i think it sounds frightningly similar..

  • anybody know in the audio segment at 1:47 he says "i wouldn't be lying to you if i said akfjlsa are the peace makers..." wtf is he saying are the peace makers? i cant understand

  • @123mattj321 "I would remind you that Scripture tells us that blessed are the peacemakers. And it takes a lot of doing, to make peace. It takes a good deal of hard work, building like a mighty cathedral stone by stone, block by block. And I sometimes wonder... " sample taken from the "In the year of the pig" movie.

  • @x83x OHKAY thank you very much!! now it all makes sense

  • @123mattj321 he is saying blessed are the peace makers

  • @123mattj321 "scripture tells us blahblah" are the peace makers, im repeatedly listening trying to figure out blahblah

  • blessed are the peace makers

  • @123mattj321 Peacemakers in Scripture are mentioned in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. e describes people who work for the common good and avoid conflict as blessed by God.

  • the fuck? what is nickelback doing in the related section?! GTFO!

  • I don't know if anyone cleared this up but the beginning dialog is most definitely Paul Bowles the AUTHOR of The Sheltering Sky.

  • I saw these guys at the Marquee in 93, theres not many bands that leave you just standing there open mouthed

  • Cant decide

My burial song this or Falkenbachs Vanadis

    This song is truly epic

  • really nice

  • oh this song is so perfect!

  • boriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

  • @JLparaliticodemierda

If it's boring then why watch or even bother commenting? Are you mentally challenged?

  • It's true, Brendan Lee has quoted the last scene/speech of "The Sheltering Sky" in an interview. The same speech is even engraved in his tombstone (search for the pic in wiki or google).

Nevermind the damn quote, listen to this god of a song:)

  • Who does the opening singing vocals? Doesn't sound like anybody in the band. Guest vocals?

  • One of the most heaviest basses i ever heard at 8:00. Amazing all over.

  • why the fuck is nickelback in the related videos ._."? nickelback doesn't stand a chance to this awesomenss!

  • @Frostbite941 nickelback should not even have a record deal!

  • awesome song, awesome band. this shit is still hugely relevant today thanks to good song writing and structure. still leading the pack and pissing on the contenders. give me more!

  • this is badass

  • Fantastic artwork on this album. A real attention grabber. Neurosis are amazing.

  • TONIGHT! WE DINE IN HELL!

  • a bottle of Tsipouro (high percentage alchohol greek drink), cigaretes , sorrow and Neurosis... the good old dayz.

  • my eyes were jaded, so close to the center i could not see..

  • I'm feel'n this song TONIGHT!!

  • Amazing

  • i have been listening to this song since i was 14 and it still gives me chills

  • damn they are old i thought they werre a relatively new band like mastodn

  • Nah, they've been around forever. They actually started out as a hardcore punk group in the late 80's.

  • This album was their best work...They kinda lost me after this one...Saw them in concert at the Omni New Daisy in Memphis when Silver and Blood came out. Loudest concert I've ever been to! Worth the hearing damage though!

  • Jesus Christ at the bass breaking in at 8:00 minute mark!!!

  • The Jesuits killed Kennedy.

  • just another simpleton who falls for Alberto Rivera's idiocy

  • i'm kinda getting into this music

  • an amazing album, i remember growing up on this stuff. we use to go up in the mountains of tennessee and build a bonfire an ingest LSD and sit and watch the end of time, wouldnt trade those memories for anything

  • @SECtennesseeSEC

    fuck yeah !

  • @SECtennesseeSEC legendary brother!

  • @SECtennesseeSEC you're a giant faggot.

  • @shawazonfire WOW look another keyboard ninja. Don't get pissed at us because your life is shitty.

  • @SECtennesseeSEC

Holy shit, I wish South Texas had more mountains. I'd grow up listening to Tool, then discover other amazing bands to accompany them as I listen to them while eating shrooms.

  • @SECtennesseeSEC

    You fucking rule.

  • The God Machine used the dialogue sample at the beginning to much better effect on their song Dream Machine :)

  • @jilliebean3000 true

  • the bes t album is word as law

  • Neurosis is so fucking beautiful. I listen to them every night while i sleep.

  • the intro to this song is from (partially, at least) a DVD extra from the first Crow movie... it's Brandon Lee slowed down

  • you mean the 1994 crow movie? not very likely.

  • extremely likely as i've seen the original clip

  • well ok, then which part of this song you refer to? the "are you lost?" to "yet it all seems limitless" sample is from the final scene from "the sheltering sky" and just everybody knows it.

  • It is. It's from an interview with him while he was on the set of the movie. I remember watching the DVD at some girl's house and being like "holy fuck, I know those words..."

  • even if that's true, don't you think it's far more likely he was quoting a movie released like four years BEFORE crow? not to mention that "enemy of the sun" itself was released in 1993. i suggest watching "the sheltering sky" (the last 5 minutes will do) before posting another comment.

  • never saw "the sheltering sky" but re-watched clip i refered to... It is Brandon Lee, in an interview, and he says beforehand that he is quoting "The Sheltering Sky"

  • i see. but the sample used in "lost" is not brandon lee, it's taken from the movie - both voices and background noises match. i can't find a video with that scene though, and i lost my dvd copy long ago, so i can't upload it myself. it's a good movie anyways.

  • BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE BY STONE

    Such an amazing song nonetheless...

  • fucking suicide music

  • Wow. This takes me back!

  • whats he sayin at the beginnig after "perhaps twenty.."?

    0:40 - 0:45

  • I know for sure, he says "and yet it all seems to,"

and then I can't really make it out. It almost sounds like "and yet it all seems to lead to dust."

But that's just a guess based on the context of what he's saying. Listen to that spot over and over maybe you have a better guess.

  • and yet it all seems limitless

  • And yet it all seems limitless."

    "Are you lost?"

  • ...Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

    — Paul Bowles (The Sheltering Sky)

  • The way the sample: "I WOULDN'T BE LYING TO YOU.... etc" barrels into the song at: 1:47 is fucking sick!

  • it's from the movie "In the year of the pig". it goes: "I would remind you that Scripture tells us that blessed are the peacemakers. And it takes a lot of doing, to make peace. It takes a good deal of hard work, building like a mighty cathedral stone by stone, block by block. And I sometimes wonder... "

  • I knew the rest of what was said, but on closer listen, you're right... It's "I would remind you," NOT "I wouldn't be lying to you."

While I'm not anti-war, I do like documentaries, and loved Errol Morris' "The fog of war (2003)." I will have to check out "In the year of the pig."

    Thanks for the info!

  • Isn't the intro to this song from an interview with Brandon Lee?

  • Comment removed

  • I have to say, this is probably my favorite piece of art by Neurosis.

  • Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustable well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that is so deeply part of your being that you, that you can't even conceive of your life without it. Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise?

  • Dear God, this song just keeps on going and going and just keeps getting better and better.

  • stone by stone by stone by stone by stone.......Bands like this dont come along very often that really affect you and your views on music. Neurosis do this to me lol.

  • i can't get enough of this song.

  • perfect

  • The first ever Neurosis song I ever heard...beautiful.

  • This song OWNS under every aspect you can think of! It's a goddamned MASTERPIECE! And so is the whole album! Enemy Of The Sun is a fucking MONSTER!!

    SEE YOU AT ROADBUUUUURN!!!!!!!

  • I heard they were crushing at Roadburn. I have got to see these guys live.

  • Oh, man... I'll tell you just one thing: they wrapped up their show with a monsterous Through Silver In Blood that had everyone in the audience crushed to the ground like mere ants and, as soon as they were finished beating those drums, outside it started raining. The first rain we saw in more than a week. It was frightening.

Of course you shouldn't miss next Roadburn, but I heard they're playing somewhere in Finland, in July if I am not mistaken.

  • This song changed a lot of people

    NEUROSIS 4 ever!!!!!!!

  • This CD is a classic
