  • Love the Sir bowing to the Master @ 1:12 speaks volumes of real love

  • Beatles Forever. RIP John! RIP George

  • Beatles forever

  • when Paul hugs George at 1:37 I want to cry. They likely knew they'd not see one another in this life as George was so very ill. The love they had for each other was very apparent here. Just so sad that he left this earth so early. God damn cigarettes have taken SO MANY away in such HORRIBLE ways. Great and wonderful song - real love is what makes the world go round, nothing else!

  • When recording Free As A Bird in February 1994, the surviving Beatles only allowed filming for a small portion of one of the sessions. But for Real Love in February 1995, they had a film crew there for almost every session.

  • The older guy behind the recording console was longtime Beatles/George Martin/Paul McCartney recording engineer Geoff Emerick. In the late 80's Emerick had relocated to LA, but agreed to return to England to help with the recordings of these last two Beatle tracks. There are shots of Emerick with George Martin in Paul's "Broad Street" movie.

  • logic always wins, the Bealtes with Jeff what else could one ask for ? only for more haha

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Free as a bird just feels sad, hearing Lennon it's just ugh

  • lol 1:33 Paul, always the frustrated drummer.

  • it's always good to see jeff lynne working with the beatles!

  • @adamNandrew & Why not: Lennon said in one of his last interviews that if you wanted to hear what the Beatles would sound like, listen to ELO. Later it was the Beatles that sounded like ELO, w/ Lynne @the boards.

  • they actually said when they came to record these 2 songs they all made a promise to them selves to pretend that john went to go get some tea....sad really

  • it was great the three got this stuff done before another past on

  • i bet john is proud of them

  • @crankyartist111 ha lol who cares johns death is still sad!

  • Where is this video from? Can someone tell me please

  • genious at work, shup up and listen

  • love Beatles and ELO,loved this thanks pal.

  • THANK YOU LORD!! NO DISLIKES!!!! YAY!! PRAISE THE LORDS, JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE, RINGO!

  • P.S. John is in the video, just not there physically with the others.

  • One is missing in this video, his life stolen by the 'little' murderer in NYC. Sad. John may well have committed to a later day reunion. We will never know, will we? I love that the surviving three got together for this video. I wish John had been there. Damn. R.I..P John and George.

  • Just imagine what history could have been like if John Lennon was never shot. </3

  • I love the scene where Paul hugs George goodbye. What wondering times I've had with these guys.

  • @jhaley12 The thing is John was about to do a world tour, had a second album almost finished, a third one already scheduled, a Broadway musical he was piecing together (the Ballad of John & Yoko), and was even thinking of a possibly of doing a Beatles reunion track or album of some sort. He was willing to throw caution into the wind and see where it landed. Not to mention he had a young kid (Sean), and finally had made amends with Julian and was back in constant contact with him.

  • John's just on a lunch break.

  • @bladesofglory12 I love that is how they described what Free As A Bird's recording was like. The reason why they didn't do the 3rd song was because Real Love didn't feel the same, and the other one was going to be more like Real Love than Free As A Bird.

  • @RantingThespian It's so sad. But, I like to believe that we will all be together one day and we will be in heaven watching The Beatles jam one day.

  • @bladesofglory12 please don't make me cry :(

  • @LadyDaGa1995 :( I'm sorry. That's what Paul said they did to get through the session without breaking down -- to just pretend he was out.

  • excellent

  • the Beatles are the masters and todays singers are the puppets

  • This song has effected my life (Real Love!) RIP JOHN ANd GEORGE

  • JEFF LYNNE!!!

  • I wish george martin could hav produced it

  • is ringo wearing eyeglasses in this video?

  • It definitely has Jeff Lynne's stamp on it, more ELO than The Beatles, but very good.

  • @eblanaken

    dude it's pure beatles.

lennon wrote it and the band finished it.

    just like they always did.

johns best songs were worked on by the band, imagine come together without pauls slowing it down and grooving bassline and swampy piano licks.

  • @OropherThranduil Thanks for filling me in on that. I believe the boys sang lead on the songs they wrote by themselves.

  • @eblanaken

    i mean harmony vocals.

like they did on those 2 songs.

i mean here they are trading lead vocals.

  • 1:47 :D

    <3

  • They seem to having more fun than they did during the get back sessions too bad they all cant get together now. Maybe Paul and Ringo should make an album together.

  • @ratchetxrc

they're planning to make an album with bob dylan together, i guess paul and bob would write and ringo plays the drums.

  • Makes me wish the Twotles would come together and do something =(

  • @MrCactuar13

there's only one thing they could do.

    finish Grow Old with Me.

if george recorded any guitar and vocals for it.

  • Rare!

  • muchachos poprq no se reunieron antes de diciembre de 1980? lo q habra sido grabar escuchando la voz de john

  • They snuck John in! :')

  • R.I.P. John. R.I.P. Georgie. Your music lives on forever.

  • This brings tears to my eyes , makes me wonder what might have been if not for Chapman.

Funny thing is I was never really a fan, until my daughter became one at the age of eight. In helping her find answers for some of her questions, I became fascinated by them, as a group and as individuals. This video breaks my heart more than any other I have watched.

  • Y bueno no podia faltar mi ración de los Dioses je je que quieren...

  • I feel like crying. They loved each other like brothers and they still do even in death. John, Paul,Goerge, and Ringo's friendship and love for each other grows more every day. This video shows that if you watch the video closely you'll see and even feel the love.

  • i always thought this song had an electric light orchestra kinda sound to it, come to see it was produced by jeff lynn:)

  • haha. ringo's still doing the head bobbing, paul's still being the attention whore, and george is still being as awesome as he is!!

  • @monieo555 Paul isn't being the attention whore! None of them were! otherwise i agree with your comment!

  • Look at Ringo at the start He looks like he is having fun!

  • I'm surprised that Paul wasn't using his Hofner here.

  • I wanna cry!!!

  • @rockyracoon09 I feel the same way. ):

  • grandissimi grazie per la vostra musica immortale.

  • trippy to see Lynne, Harrison and Mccartney in the same shot... all three have written so many classic pop songs.

  • Is that the guitar Rocky at 1:43 ?

  • @thatguyuknow1111 No, Rocky is George's multicoloured guitar. It's definitely not black. You can see it in the I Am the Walrus video. And on the video for Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down

  • @Scarperguy Thanks Scarperguy though i already knew that lol. . . it said that rocky's paint started flaking of immediatly and they said rocky was used in the real love / free as a bird sessions. . .

  • @thatguyuknow1111 Well the same guitar is in that Tom Petty video which is over 20 years later though.

  • Comment removed

  • @Scarperguy True True thanks for your time.

  • @thatguyuknow1111 he used it as a slide guitar

  • @thatguyuknow1111 That's the Dark horse fender....in the back he has de Dark Horse logo..you can see it here in youtube

  • @thatguyuknow1111 There's a picture on a website/blob by Scotty Moore that has a picture of him with George and Rocky in 1999 and Rocky is still red. YouTube won't let me post a web address but if you search for Scotty Moore George Harrison it should take you right to the page.

  • @RichYan33 Love it :) thanks

  • @Scarperguy rocky's original color wasn't black it was white (:

  • @MissQuietGirl I know. That's what I said. It's definitely not black

  • The beatles accually wrote music, the crap today is written by one person, then "preformed" by someone else... its makes me sick...

  • @triwsocarina Not even that, it's a group of overpaid songwriters. They can't be arsed to scour for REAL talent.

  • @triwsocarina - "written by one person, then "preformed" by someone else... " That actually has always happened. Biggest example? Elvis.

  • @Zenutheduck exactly

  • @triwsocarina Not that I'm defending anyone (I hate most of the music that comes out); but that was very common in the 1950's (just look at Elvis). Then again, the composers were very good and so were the interpreters.

The Beatles were the ones that made it cool to write music. They even inspired the Rolling Stones to start writing their own music (and even wrote their second hit).

  • @triwsocarina

...or they write a crap song with 3 notes like

    G-A-C

    FINISHED!

    that makes me also sick!

  • @triwsocarina

exactly. there are no "artists" these days..only performers who mimes on live shows & most of them coming up with an autobiography within an year or 2 or release some shitty perfume brand.

  • @triwsocarina oh it makes me sick too:( The Beatles were actually one of the first groups that started writing their own songs and making them hits:)

    Lennon/McCartney the two-headed-hit machine!!<333

that's why they didn't accept playing How Do You Do It & instead they made one of their own songs their first number1<33 GO BEATLES!

  • @triwsocarina You don't think that happened back then?

  • @triwsocarina Actually, the Beatles started out by performing other songwriters' music, e.g. "Twist and Shout". They are just amazing musicians and I think their passion for music always came through. There may well be a lack of such passion nowadays...

  • @triwsocarina Well at least theres no dislikes.

  • @triwsocarina Why do you think I stick to bands like Rush who've been around awhile? Neil still writes the lyrics along with Geddy and sometimes Alex even pitches in on the lyrics. Its their music for sure. Its the ones with experience that can still write and make their own music.

  • @triwsocarina That's not true! In their time people did that all the time! Even The Beatles wrote ALL their songs seperately. 1968-70, they weren't even in the same room! John wrote one and then had them all follow like in this video. Same with Paul and even George a little. Still modern music sucks.

  • @triwsocarina yeah michael jackson.

  • @triwsocarina See: Frank Sinatra (McCartney actually wrote a song for him and was turned down), Elvis Presley, Meat Loaf, Joe Cocker, Elton John (who doesn't write his own lyrics, but has been in a partnership for over 40 years with Bernie Taupin), Michael Jackson (some of his biggest hits weren't written by him), Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.), and so many more talented and influential artists who don't write a great deal of what they perform. The Beatles started out on covers, as do most bands.

  • @triwsocarina Plenty of people back in the day performed songs by others, including The Beatles. Elvis didn't write much. Some of Ray Charles' most famous songs were covers. Lack of songwriting ability does not automatically make someone a bad performer.

  • @DThomasYetter you do know the beatles change that, they started writing original songs, and then you know the who, and all those bands starting doing the same because of the beatles. btw people today use autotune.....

  • 5th BEATLE, MICHAEL COLLIER, LAYING the FOUNDTION 1991 & 1992 so PAUL ,GEORGE & RINGO could COMPLETE it......GIVE SOME TRUTH .......

  • @rockinmaw what are you talking about?

  • George looks so cool. Miss him, miss him.

  • Jesus christ. The Beatles made the best songs that have ever been made by a human. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr made the most famous songs that ever have been made. Will there ever be and band like The Beatles again? The answer is, not so surprising, no. Ofcourse it wont be a band like The Beatles again. I don't think that good music will be made within the next five - ten years. Todays artists have a hit on the list for 5-8 weeks and then they are as good as gone

  • I'm not surprised harrison was doubletracking johns vocal. he sounds so much like john.

  • @known12 Harrison wasn't doubletracking John's vocal

  • i feel awful for paul, ringo and george; recording this in the studio must have been very emotional and difficult. :( it's a beautiful track, though..... and the beatles will live forever!

  • @NutcakeProductions I read somewhere that Paul said "We pretended that John had gone on holiday, or out to make a cup of tea, and had left us to play around with the tapes."

It brought a tear to my eye to read that...

  • @MuteCityGaming it made me cry a little too. i can't imagine how emotional it was in that studio. just pretending he was out for lunch or something, it made me cry.

  • @NutcakeProductions Yeah I know exactly what you mean.... pretending he was having lunch or getting some tea...its just so sad...there will never be a group like The Beatles ever again..never..

  • @mediagod2004

Mark David Chapman is the name you're looking for.

    Have a nice day!

  • @RedRaider93x Yeah you can't just pretend he doesn't exist tbh, can you? It's denying the truth.

  • @Scarperguy well If you don't talk about the killer of John, he won't get the satisfaction of fame that he wanted by killing John in the first place(!)

Don't deny he's ever killed John, but don't give John's killer the satisfaction of being known for the kill, that's like rewarding the damn F-ker !

  • @RedRaider93x F-K you dear sir and have a nice day --I--

  • Threetles classic. PS great vid

  • I always liked "Real Love" better.

  • I would like to start a seed here where nobody on this planet ever repeats the name of the person who killed John Lennon. I've gotten to the point of non-use for the past 15 years that there are many times I cannot remember it. So please, nobody post it to remind people who it was. Just between us Beatle-folk, let's do our best to never let THAT name become synonymous with John's. John, Sean, Julian & Yoko deserve better than this.

  • Jeez, whats with all the bickering? Everybody's been begging for more Beatles songs, they give it to you, and you bitch and moan as if you were a bigger part of the band then the guys in it. Maybe that is the reason the guys couldn't get back together cause they knew people'd just criticize it rather than enjoying it. These two tracks are as close to a reunion as we can ever have. John and Yoko wouldn't have wanted fans to be negative about this. It's a gift to us. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!

  • @RupertDCD27 The problem is when people think that the band belongs to them

  • holy guys

  • 0:30: Jeff Lynn as producer. That's the reason the atmosphere sounds as ELO. George Martin refused the job stating his ears were not the same... He didn't want to work in that project, because later he produced the Anthology and years after The Beatles 1st. ... These are not The Beatles anyway.

  • @rafaelprivate Shame you have to accuse this as sounding like ELO, you should try listening to the original recordings of these tunes before making such comment

  • Sorry but that's my opinion. Lynne fully expected the finished track to sound like The Beatles, as that was his premise for the project, but that's no really The Fab Four. This is the only recording that has Lennon, McCartney and Harrison singing separate lead vocals on the same song. I would like someone to tell me five similar songs by the real Beatles to this one, and let's analyze them... I'm a Beatles fan, I have not said this is not a good song or something similar. It's just my opinion.

  • @rafaelprivate I don't think it's ELOey really, I think it's more similar to the Travelling Wilburys, due to the strong use of acoustic guitars, Jeff and George. Also the Beatles never used lead slide guitar, and the Wilburys did. Having said that, the Beatles always changed style in some form.. this may have been their last stage.

  • @Scarperguy , the Beatles did use lead slide guitar on George's "For You Blue," on Let It Be.

  • @tageury I know they did. That's why I specifically said "lead slide guitar".. I don't really count John's slide on that as Lead Guitar really.

  • @Scarperguy: I think you are right. the sound is closest to the Travelling Willburys than to ELO. Despite of that, "this is a dreary song, produced in a period of its writer's [Lennon's] life when he was too content to care, or notice, whether his expression was banal or unfocused. Free As A Bird stands no comparison with The Beatles' Sixties music." (Ian MacDonald: Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties)

  • I still like it, I value any song by John, George or Paul mostly.. it's quite dreamlike, especailly listening to the demos.. the track was possibly overproduced eventually.

  • @Scarperguy I have no said I don't like it. I like it but with that reserve. Take care.

  • @rafaelprivate what do you mean "these are not the beatles anyway"?.

I think it's overproduced by jeff "everything must sound the same" lynn (elo, taveling wilburys, the album cloud nine......), I wish george martin produced it, but the songs sound beatlish enough, as if "free as a bird" was the next step in the evolution of their sound after "the end" on abbey road.

besides, john on piano and vocals, paul on bass, george on guitar and ringo on drums = the beatles.

  • 0:56 paul looks so young.

  • sitting next to george, bob barker could look young

  • RIP John and George :)

  • If John was there many people would be crying right now, me 1st.

  • maravilloso

  • karma police has the same chord structure as sexy sadie!!!

  • Actually thats not true, its not the same progression or even chords, the piano arrangement is similar though

  • AWESOME \o/

  • Is there more video from these sessions anywhere?

  • There has to be, somewhere, but as far as I'm aware it was filmed on a home camcorder that a studio member brought to the sessions.

  • Wish john was there :(

  • I know that the structure of the song is similar to Karma Police, but what are you trying to say? Free As A Bird was written in the 1970's and recorded and released in 1995, Karma Police was not released until 1997. You have gotten a negative reception because it seems like you are trying to say that the Beatles copied Radiohead. It may be that Radiohead copied the Beatles, everyone in music alongside and since them has at least been influenced by them, but it is impossible the other war around.

  • I really don't think the two songs are similar at all, and that's from a guy whose two favorite bands are the Beatles and Radiohead...

  • This vid won't save to my favourites for some strange reason??

  • karma police in a begining? excelent video!

  • It's the piano, it's a bit more obvious in this mix, which is also alternate, ripped from the DTS version on the Anthology DVD.

  • Such a Beautiful song.

I read somewhere that when Paul, George and Ringo were recording they didn't want to feel like John was actually gone. So they said that he was out grabbing a cup of tea.

  • was george already getting to be sick in 94? I thought he didn't die til '99 or '00.

  • Or maybe he actually died in 2002.

  • some major haircuts in this video

  • Such precious footage for Beatles fans!

  • 1:37.... touched my heart......

  • yeah, brings a tear to my eyes

  • The guitar work on "Free as a Bird" is amazing. George definitely lives up to the Beatles standards here....

Honestly, I didn't like the "Whatever happened to..." parts though, and Ringo's drumming could be more subtle and intricate..

Too bad they didn't get back together earlier. If twas just George, Paul and Ringo in the early 1980s (e.g. 1982), it would have turned out better. Paul's voice was in better shape, and they were all more with it.

  • I don't think they would've had the technology back then though, to stick John's tape in the DAT machines. In fact, I'm not sure that DAT machines were even around then

  • i dont think they ruined the song the song was a demo they just worked on his idea

  • Heh-no.

  • Makes me so MAD that John is not there...=(

  • sweeeeeeeeeeet

  • I like when they do on the studio

  • Fkin ''A'' Man fkin ''A''

  • "Four guys who really loved each other", to quote Ringo. I would have to believe that John would have loved to get back together with his friends as well. Yoko thought so enough to contribute his draft recordings of two songs.

God, how I miss the Beatles.

  • @PRR5406 I do too...I miss them so much.. seeing these videos makes me want to cry and seeing how emotional Paul is at the very end of the video while listening to the playback.

  • it's nice seeing them working together again

  • Just wanted to add I wish I could see more of this.

  • I'm afraid that's all I've got sorry. I'll be putting up two clips of Free as a Bird and Real Love without Ringo or John's parts that I managed to get hold of.

  • Hey Thank you for this!!! That's Awesome!!!!
