Why not shoot the video through an auto-darkening helmet? By the way when you see a bright red afterglow you can bet yourself $100 that you've got slag trapped in the weld! For important jobs such as welding a stub axle into a trailer arm, forget stick welding and pay someone to MIG it. (I know a truck repair place where they have an excellent 3 phase MIG/TIG machine although the MIG welding at the steel framed building factory is better still!)
@90mustangkid u r wrong my friend u can use 7018 for a root under certain codes if u have a backing ring. i have done in the past, however the system must be noncritical.
@90mustangkid As a former Navy NDT, I can verify that 7018 is used for roots. It all depends on what procedure is used. When I was in "A" School we only used 6011 because the instructors wanted us to learn to move the rod.
when i was there we took 8 or 10 weeks worth of training to weld. then i spent 2 years on a ship fixing shitters. and i never had to mig tig or arc weld a turd. thank god for decoms.
@techdavey1000. " by the way, when you see a bright red afterglow, you can bet yourself $100 that you have slag trapped in the weld."
No, not always the case. It pretty much means that it was a hot fucking weld. Retard.
